Linux Watch Pine Time

Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
It is interesting, but like all the other watches it doesn't replace the phone/ pocket device. It's just one more thing to weigh you down. It's no trouble to look in my pocket for the time. Price is nice.
In wearable tech I subscribe to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's philosophy "less is more" (in some situations I like the Robert Venturi rebuttle "Less is a bore".) |
Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
This could be neat! We haven't really had an option for smartwatches that work with SailfishOS since the Pebble.

It is ~one year ago now that kido asked Jolla to up the BTLE game but no change(?). Quote:
I only got away from having one on my wrist again since all models i had where uncomfortable to wear or even hurted after some time. Not a watch guy obviously or i simply have not found a comfy one. |
Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
Where is the keyboard, like in old Casio watches?
Or like in µWatch: http://www.calcwatch.com/index.html Maybe we should help him to make special edition µWatch N900 with Maemo Lite? |

Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
Success or failure will depend on attracting an active dev community and easy to use dev tools.
I mostly just use my pebble as a watch with changeable faces(reminders or for fun), daily reminders, and a cooking timer. But it shines when I am driving or cycling and I need to see the start of an SMS, caller ID, or bump the next song on my N900 jacked into aux or bluetooth audio. I wonder if it will be Pebble compatible as I recall it runs freeRTOS as the pebble did. If you approach it as a watch not a laptop as Pebble did you can put much useful function on the watch as well as fune but useless fluff. But it needs an easily replaced battery and a screen connector which doesn't come loose filling the screen with artifacts as Pebbles do. A backup time-only function fallback with a long life battery for dead recharge battery situations would also be quite useful. |

I wonder if the development of this watch means that pine has a bluetooth version of their padi in the works. Looking at the case on the "Shinning Watch", a 16x24mm module could certainly fit. "Fully Fit, Only Wonderful" . . . are four words that can be typed on a keyboard. Also, "Shinning Watch"? |

Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
If this runs freertos.org
It would have an _immediate_ commercial market. if it has GPS and some kind of low-latency physical interface. Serious |
Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
New blog post at pine64 with update on pinetime, pinebook pro, pine tab and pinephone.
If you're interested in getting a pinetime devkit before Christmas and Lunar New Year breaks, you can chime in over there. Likewise sound off on interest in tablet and pro laptop. Orders for "braveheart" version of pinephone open Nov 15 for the not-faint-of-heart (natch). Otherwise wait till about March for next batches. (Might be better for me to wait anyway, maybe somebody will slip me a red envelope full of cash in-between time -- not likely with Scottish and German ancestors, though.) |
Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
once sales commence ..
if there are no issues.. I will likely be purchasing a tab, phone and watch |
Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
For the watch(and phone too I guess) Will they have the great easy cloud builder which bypasses making a perfect home dev environment until you know that you are committed to the project. I think this is what made the pebble watch so loaded with apps, easy access to online dev tools.

Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
Pine just refunded me as apparently no carriers are shipping to Europe (Bulgaria) due to COVID-19?!

Re: Linux Watch Pine Time
Finally got one and looks good. The problem is i can't pair it with both Jolla C and Intex. It gives a wrong code error. It pairs fine with pinephone using siglo and with Android using gadgetbrige
