Nokia N900 Aliexpress
 

Hi,

I see a lot of new/unused Nokia N900 on Aliexpress. Are those just fake ones or new one? Have anyone tried them? I want to grap a cheap spare one.

I bougth used fake one for curious for 2$. It's completly different device. Nothing is the same, even dimensions. A fake one is smaller. It has custom OS not maemo. It hasn't FMTx. Display is very poor. It has only one speaker.

Even no spare parts for original, keyboard doesn't match, digitizer also (but it's resistive at least). I think it has 16M RAM and dual SIM, and from time to time display shows mirror view :)

EBay tends to be reliable as well.
Every where else...well...I wouldn't...

For example...
The first aliexpress n900 I ran across ..the first review ..was from a person who bought and found that the guts of it were not a proper n900's guts.
(Personally I have bought lots of stuff from aliexpress over the years with never a problem...but the n900s for sale are obviously gutless wonders ...to coin a phrase)

warnings have been written saying it over and over here...
For years...
Yet some wish to chance it.

It states on aliexpress that they are refurbished, so used but checked to be working. So they should be N900s. You can try checking the specs from the suplier and I think refunds work at least should.

I'm coming short with N900s but I am constantly hunting them. One went for my cousin to whom I found online 40Eur offer. I only buy with 25-30Eur so they don't come too often.

Skimming over what I just wrote doesn't cut it.

Also...
In no dictionary that I know of does "refurbishment" mean "checked ...but working"
That is glossing over a serious issue of fake n900s
Which is still a big issue for buyers.

As I just said...

The buyer stating "refurbishment".
And the purchasers statement in a review that the " refurbishment" was a n900 shell and non n900 guts ....
Still stands.
It was written by a purchaser in black and white.
The sellers response was that it was a "refurbishment"

"Refurbishment" is a word ...
Cavalierly used with much interpretation...
...that doesn't necessarily mean they are "original" n900s.
With all "original" parts inside or out.or "official" n900 parts...for that matter.

Yet again ...
I reiterate.
Caveat emptor.

Indeed... I am also in a hunting mood for these N900. Ebay seems to be ok. I should check there for some of these devices gems.

Indubitably .
Personally ..
I have gotten over 20 nxx0s from eBay...
And each and every one was exactly as described by the seller...
EBay has been pretty reliable ..
I simply steer clear of sellers from Asia ...
And those with statements like "refurbished" .
And aim more at euro and norrth american sellers.

I got stuck with a fake 'new'; it was a dirty re-soldered board refurbish with a SSD days from failing, it dropped into read only mode and wouldn't let me reflash.
Years ago you could spot the fake new ones easily as the box had a row of keys instead of a spacebar for the raised image of the N900.
I recall another real fake N900 which had a DVB-T circuit and maybe even let you run J2ME games and apps but looked like a N900.

Ebay.in was a reilable way of buying stuff but they merged or something with flipkart around june 2018 its 2gud.com now and it is a horrible place sells refurbs only !

Well...if ebay.in has been usurped by a different company...then it isn't ebay anymore...
Soooo...the new owners continuing to use the ebay front...and allowing what they are ...
is misleading consumers..

My N900 has a faulty touchscreen and is missing some screws. Few years ago i bought a new housing for it and i would like to repair my dear linux driven mobile. Any ideas on reliable source for touch and screws?

Ebay ...yet again...
Ebay has been a good resource for parts.
Touchscreens ...bodies...
It tends to be the place I go to .

Depending on timing...you may luck out with finding a n900 either in perfect condition ...normal wear and tear...or good for parts you need...possibly cheaper or the same price or close to it......compared to the cost of a brand new touchscreen or other parts...

Worst case it is likely you will find what you need on ebay no matter what.

There has been at least some months ago in Finland an online original Nokia spareparts shop with N900 displays/touchscreens. I have posted the address here on the forum on some thread dedicated asking Nokia spare parts or something. Don't remember the site and could not find it now. I will try to find it but you could search the forum (with google maemo talk and then tags is a better match than forum search).
