microb browser won't install in new firmware
microb won't install on new firmware (4.2007.38-2). After intsalling the required catalogue it errors with the following:
Unable to download. Application package not found. A search for installable applications in App Manager displays only microb-eal. When I check the problems tab for microb-eal it states that the missing packages are browser-eal, libgtkmozembed and microb-|10n Any help greatly appreciated, ScottRD |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
So what's new in the new firmware?
|
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Good question. It was SUPPOSED to only be a fix for a known memory card bug. Apparently not.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Same problem with microb here. Woo hoo!
|
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I wonder if it actually has anything to do with the firmware update, or if the link inside the installer is just dead. Or something.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Looks like once again, Nokia has screwed us.
|
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
nicely thought through people.
aren't the repositories in some way keyed to the firmware as a method of only showing compatible software? So unless a repository is marked as being compatible with the new firmware it won't appear in the app manager. i had the same problem with the microb rep not showing up. a quick switch to red pill mode and oh look there it is. this isn't nokia screwing with anyone, this surely would be an issue for the microb team? |

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I definitely installed the new firmware (from WinXP) and appear to be in the Mozilla browser. I backed up my settings before installing, so when I restored them, the Mozilla Browser was a choice for me, and it worked.
Application Manager shows it as Installed. I'll look for helpful info... |

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Well, I have it as a choice as well, but I always get the opera engine, no matter what I select.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Did y'all try installing using the link from this page?
http://browser.garage.maemo.org/#install-pane Just a thought... |

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I was able to install the microb-browser just fine after a install and backup restore. I believe using the install file gives you the correct repo settings for it.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I just double-checked that I am running the Microb browser. My ways of checking are clunky; maybe someone has a better method.
If i open a new browser window, Opera opens something that mentions Tableteer. Microb opens something that mentions a Mozilla browser. And my cable provider site, at www.rr.com, doesn't come up right in Opera, but comes up fine wiith Microb. I think it has something to do with Flash support. These tests confirm that I'm running Microb. Maybe one of the more advanced techs in the daylight will be able to offer more suggestions. |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
That's the method I use as well. Someone else mentioned that you could also look at the download bar, it sweeps much faster in microb than when in opera.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Maybe someone can find a better site but :
http://www.leeson.com/browsers.htm Will show you the browser info which the engine is -claiming- to be. On my unflashed device i get : (opera) Microsoft Internet Explorer - 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; X11; Linux armv6I; U) (microb) Netscape - 5.0 (X11; en-US) |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Well, I give up, I'll reflash later. I have all the repositories (from the backup) yet I cannot install microb. I even tried to remove the repository to let the dowload link readd it, with the same tesult.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Maybe they are doing some fixes to the MicroB installer... and it is offline now.
Hopefully they are fixing the bug that causes the advanced features go away from both Opera and MicroB after MicroB is installed? |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
All I know is our work order system at work is locked to mozilla 2.0 or better and it doesn't work with the new firmware. As soon as the last firmware is downloaded, I'm flashing back.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I've opened Bug 2063 for anyone who cares or wants to help out by adding more info to it. Latest I provided in the bug is log from app. manager after trying to install again after a second attempt at flashing with new firmware with same results.
osso-application-installer 4.46, UI version 2 W: GPG error: http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG CBFC2BECC6903E72 Nokia Internet Tablet Archive Automatic Signing Key <integration@maemo.org> W: GPG error: http://maemo-hackers.org bora Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 5FD45CD3EA68E29D |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I updated and flashed my N800 and restored my backup...However, I think the microb browser is already installed.
Go to the menu, click on advanced>engine>set default mine said microb... so I am not sure that microb is missing.. just missing from the installer. |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware

but after reading all this, i really have no need to. good luck to all you guy's |

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
I think the "Maemo Extras" repository is having some trouble personally. It handles Microb, Kagu, and other things which have randomly dissapeared over the last 36 hours.
If you look at the package listing and search for microb you'll see a bunch of it's dependencies but not microb-browser right now: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/d...armel/Packages Yet all the deb files are still in the pool directory: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/bora/free/m/ However it was was part of the listing, as I installed it on two n800's in the morning with the new firmware. Other packages like Kagu are missing as well... :/ As a side note for people wanting to see what browser they are in currently, you can just type "about:" in for a url and both Opera and MicroB will give you a bunch of info. (And configuration info in the case of MicroB) |

are you sure you didn't get these errors before? I have been getting always those invalid signatures. I still have the old firm and this is what I get: osso-application-installer 4.46, UI version 2 W: GPG error: http://tuomas.kulve.fi bora Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 94D0694709064463 W: GPG error: http://maemo-hackers.org bora Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 5FD45CD3EA68E29D W: GPG error: http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG CBFC2BECC6903E72 Nokia Internet Tablet Archive Automatic Signing Key <integration@maemo.org> |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Yes, I see those errors often and did before the upgrade too. I tend to run apt-get update a lot; it seems to help clear things up when there are problems. But it doesn't get rid of those signature error messages; I just live with them and they seem to go away from time to time.

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Any news on the problem? The package was clearly removed from the package-list in the repository and, if you try installing it manually some dependencies are missing!

Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
hallo!!
I had the same problem.. solved installing all deps one by one from the http://repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/3.1/free/ directory. (used red pill mode to have the list of dependencies..) |

I know how to add repositories and enter red pill mode, but there are a lot of files in the directory you mentioned. Could you describe in a bit more detail how you resolved this issue? I'm sure that I'm not the only one who would be very appreciative. Thank you. |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
Not sure if this is a coincidence, but yesterday when upgrading I performed the restore from a backup procedure. I encountered the same problems as seen in this thread.
This morning, I did the upgrade again but didn't perform a restore. All seems well now... and microb installed fine. Not sure if there is a problem with the backup / restore procedure or if the repositories have been fixed? (am quite new to all of this so forgive me if i'm talking dross) |

Worked this morning... "They" must have cleaned up the repository again.
Thanks! |
Re: microb browser won't install in new firmware
It just now worked for me too! I had to enter "sudo apt-get update" to refresh the repos first though. Just finished installing MicroB, now I'll see if installing Python works too. Yep! Python just finished installing. It looks like they fixed all the problems this morning.

Does MicroB now really work on the latest 2006 OS ? At least the version number of 0.0.8-4 in the application manager catalog does _not_ encourage me to give it another try. The trials with the above version were very disappointing so far:-( |
