Videocenter not launching with new firmware

Just flashed my N800 with the latest (SD card problem fixed) firmware.
Installed Video Center. All went ok, except for the fact that Video Center doesn't want to launch.
I select it from the Extras menu and all it tells me is: "Video center loading" and then nothing.

Works here too, try starting it from xterm to see an error message ?

Re: Videocenter not launching with new firmware

This may sound ridiculous since we are talking about a Linux based IT BUT since I couldn't figure out which service might need to be re-started, etc... I simply power-cycled my N800 when I encountered this same problem and it has worked just fine ever since. I'm ready to accept the flames about this being a "Microsoft answer" but it DID work in my case.

Does your file manager work? If so, try delete VC folder see whether that solves the problem. If not delete ALL VC files/folders, dont forget the Document/VC folder, I think all 4 of them, that should solve the problem.

I deleted the whole VC folder. That did the trick.

which VC folder? (Which Filemanager? the built-in one?)

Video center does not start for me after a install of latest firmware...

Re: Videocenter not launching with new firmware

ok, I dug some more..

I used X terminal and ran MC

then I found a folder called videocenter and deleted it.

now the app works again :)

- I really need to find a 'Linux for Dummies' book! Or maybe a filemanager with a gui that shows me more than just what Nokia think I should see!

This must be a common problem. Mine won't open either. I deleted the videocenter folder in the /home/user directory but it still won't work and it recreates it every time i try to open it. where are the files/folders you guys are deleting to get it to work? Thanks

Have you got it to work before and Now it does not load OR you have never get it to work in the beginning? If you have never get it to work before, there is other problem, we need more info, your device/OS/error message etc. What we talking about is the situation that Video center wont run/load after a re-install. Usally it is the problem of myvideos.db, sometimes you delete that particular file, VC will work. Sometimes, you have to delete the whole VC and re-install. If you ever enabled Video center>Tools>Settings...>Memory>Preferred memory>Memory card, you will find myvideos.db on your memory card. Otherwise it will be under /home/user.

Post back on your results, hope this help.

Re: Videocenter not launching with new firmware

Yeah, it worked before I installed the new firmware on it. It worked great. I had probably nearly all of the video subscriptions mentioned on here on it. And now they're all gone with the new firmware, which sucks.

But thanks for the help. That was the problem. I had to delete the myvideos.db file from my MMC. I'd been deleting it from the /home/user and it didn't do anything, but after deleting the one in MMC, it worked. Well, thanks again. Time to watch some videos.

I am glad it worked. I had the same problem upon re-installation and drove me mad. People never use video center does not know what they miss, you and I do.

Please share with the forum if you find any new channels.

Re: Videocenter not launching with new firmware

OK, I had pretty much the same problem. I couldn't run videocenter gtrom the GUI, but I could get into an x-term and launch it from the command-line. Here's the steps that I took to get it running again:

Nokia-N810-50-2:~# su - user

BusyBox v1.6.1 (2007-09-27 18:08:59 EEST) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

~ $ ls -ld vid*
drwxrwxrwx 3 user users 0 Mar 28 16:59 videocenter
~ $ rm -rf ./videocenter
~ $ cd /media/mmc2
/media/mmc2 $ ls -l
drwxrwxrwx 2 user root 2048 Mar 15 09:49 Podcast
drwxrwxrwx 2 user root 2048 Mar 14 17:04 Software
drwxrwxrwx 2 user root 2048 Feb 9 09:53 Video
drwxrwxrwx 3 user root 2048 Feb 6 07:38 backups
drwxrwxrwx 6 user root 2048 Feb 20 10:56 map
drwxrwxrwx 2 user root 2048 Feb 5 08:55 tmp
drwxrwxrwx 3 user root 2048 Feb 4 17:42 videocenter
/media/mmc2 $ rm -rf ./videocenter

There were two separate videocenter directories that seemed to be necessary to remove. I had removed the one in ~user, but that didn't clear it up. I had to also remove it from the internal memory, and it came back. I hope this helps someone. It was bugging me for a few days.
