My Doom3 PDA Theme

Hi all! A couple of friends and myself started this Garage Project to make a Doom3™ themed skin for the Nokia 770/N800. The bes part is, it's almost done!
I'm just hoping that I can skin the application menus.
Enjoy the early screenshots!

Screenshots (Alpha)

Post opinions! Also if you know something about skining and coloring the Menus, please contact me, or post here!

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

I'd like to be able to make them black with the greenish font at least

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Really Really cool stuff.. Do you guys use theme maker? The blue alien head looks better, but I think the head is the worst part of the theme at the moment. Maybe something more technological for that icon.

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Actually if you played Doom3 you will see this icon everywhere. The Martian Buddy. It's part of a ficticious advertising campaign and spam mails that the Doom Marines get in their PDA's. The Color is for when you have mail, obviously.

P.S.: Yes we use Theme Maker

Carrying this around on the N800... you could freak out small children that have played Doom.

Or even adults that don't have a good grasp on reality.

Oh wait... that would be us... (And I guess we'd not be "freaked". We'd be like: "Cool.")

Very cool.

If someone made a Starcraft or Diablo theme my kids would go nuts.

The LCARRS thing was cool looking... but apparently the guy that did that has a 770 and has not updated it. (And it stopped working after the last firmware update.)

That would be cool also... you could walk around with a tri-corder. Next up... a bluetooth insignia for your shirt!

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Really great stuff. I hope that the theme maker files will soon be compatible with the device again.

It's not bluetooth but could passably be modded to do both 802.11 & Bluetooth.....

If all it does is listen for 2.4Ghz signals, then it might react to bluetooth. I used to have a pen that flashed when cell phones got a ring signal. Was pretty cool, though the microwave at work made it go nuts too...

I believe what he meant was the little Star Fleet insignias that they wear that act as communicators. You could, in theory, make one that is a bluetooth "headset", where tapping it would act like the switch on the N800 headphones, and it would do "hands free" voice sessions.

It might be part of the Doom3 world, but it still looks out of place, IMO.

If I were to use someone's face for that theme, it'd be the marine's face (I don't know about D3, but in D1, the marine's face appears in the bottom center of the screen, partially as a health indicator and partially as an indicator of where an attack is coming from).

Or maybe the helmeted marine face, that you see on your buddies when playing a networked game (or your enemies, when playing a deathmatch game).

Yes, you could do that.

But you'd get so wedgied...

That's an excelent suggestion, and I certainly keep that in mind... The D3 marine's helmet is not as cute as the Doom 1 tough... When I finish the first skin I will post some other related ones, like the Evil possesed PDA...

I can't wait to get this Theme, it looks as if you've put alot into it already.

We need more 3rd parties creating this type of content to really get the NIT into the mainstream..

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

I will kinda wait for the new OS2008 comes up, because I think I will need to make several changes. Also I would like to have a word or two with the ThemeMaker author.
I don't think the OS2006/7 themes will be compatible with OS2008

That the bit that pissed my off the most (More then the changing of "Alien Monsters from Hell" into genetically engineered sub-humans) was that when he injected himself and the film went to FPS-Mode there was not a little-guys face as the bottom like the original games :/

Of all of the things that annoyed you the most about that awful movie, THAT's the one you're pissed off about the most? ;-)

SebaSOFT 2007-10-23 19:19

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

I guess a DOOM1 would be more accurate for that face :)

Hey the previews for that skin looked kickass. Did it ever came out or something ?

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

When the project started The Hildon Window Manager suffered some changes (for good) and the Maemo Theme Maker changed completelly the layout to fit the official Maemo Layout, so I had no time to work on it. But this will get eventually done.

If anyone is intrested to be part of the dev team, be sure to let me know.

Let me know if you need any help. After about a week from now though, I won't be available for much development for another month or so. I'm moving and things will be hectic. (No computer for a month! I might have to install Debian and snatch a bluetooth keyboard so I can get the "computer experience")

Ghostface 2008-07-30 07:16

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Awesome I very much look forward to it. For now I hacked myself together a photoshoped wallpaper of your preview screen :P

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Hey, by the way, next theme maker includes also nice support for the fonts. That should make the doom theme even more doom-alike.

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

any updates or ETA ?

SebaSOFT 2008-08-16 14:22

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

No ETA's at the moment, doing it in my spare time. Anyone cares to join the project?

konttori: thanks a lot! I have the doom font to use, it's great and very clear in small sizes

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

I've now published the latest theme maker:
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=36
It has the font support and it fixes the home screen applet graphic issues. So, this should be a good version for you to work with.

SebaSOFT 2008-08-19 14:49

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Nothing but the goods here. Hopefully with new help, will see some movement now.... Transparency and font styles are the major need besides being able to change every color (you know, black backgrounds, etc.)

konttori 2008-08-20 05:34

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

You can change every color on that release and it's easy to do all-black themes as well. I'm in the process of making an example all-black theme to give people the example colors for it.

konttori 2008-09-08 19:43

Re: My Doom3 PDA Theme

Well, now we also have the icon support for themes:
http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.co...pport-for.html

I'm looking forward to seeing your doom theme all with gloomy icons.

To give them what colors? Wouldn't they all be black? (I'm not a big fan of all-black themes, personally; black-on-black is too hard to read.)

Aren't we clever today. ;) Surely it would have light gray/white text. It's just a proof to show how very dark themes work.

ONTOPIC: Just a Quick Update, Andreas is no longer working with me so the ETA has fallen back to "whwnever I have spare time".

If you know about Theming and wish to help, I'm most glad to help getting this out to everyone. Some of the Theme Hackers perhaps, I could join the group.

*sigh*

We would be happy to help you out SebaSOFT, send me over a PM letting me know where you are right now with the theme. Also are you using Theme Maker or Hildon-ui-tools?
