How do I start XTERM?

Hi!

I downloaded and installed the XTERM package (http://770.fs-security.com/xterm/) but after I install it I can not seem to find how to start it?? I also installed the bash (http://www.opbyte.it/maemo/) but nothing either. Anyone know how launch the xterm? :confused: I also upgraded my 770 to the latest release from Nokia.

Thanks in advance!

it's in your 'extra' folder

ramesis 2006-01-16 07:17

Nope.. Not there.. I have installed a few apps and they all show there.. But XTERM does not. Wonder if it is because of the latest nokia software upgrade....

@ramesis

I'm using the latest firmware and xterm is running fine.

Have you tried re-installing xterm? If it's not in the extra menu than it's not properly installed.

Ramesis, what else have you got installed?

Illuminator 2006-01-16 14:15

Did you install X-term before or after updating the 770?

I had the same problem when I first tried installing Xterm...just uninstall it, and then reinstall it again and it should finally show up in the Extras subfolder...

In fact, I think I even had to do it twice, then it finally showed...

I have all of those apps installed as well so I doubt it's a conflict. Otherwise I can only offer the same advice as orbital; try it a couple of times and maybe it'll eventually work. Yes, there's no good reason for this, yes, we can't explain it, but if it works, it works. :) (and it has for others with other apps)

Bizarre. My luck by the way, was having it install on the first shot for both the firmware it came with, and the subsequent week 51 update I flashed it with. XTerm's pretty much a requirement if you want to do anything fancy at this stage... If your DejaPIM isn't too full of info I'd clear all apps and try again. At that point if it still doesn't work, reflash and give it a go.

If that *still* doesn't work for some crazy reason, you might want to try having someone send you the .desktop file associated with XTerm and manually copying it into the /etc/others-menu/<whatever>Extras directory. You can edit that directory without root access.

I uninstalled all aps and tried again.. Nothing... Will try to reflash and see what happens. :) I did not have luck when I flashed it the first time. :o I had to do it twice.. Yeah w/o xterm it is pretty useless.. BTW is there more than one xterm out there?? Did you install the one under the app catalog in the maemo website?
