Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Thanks. I ordered a n800 today, so hopefully I can get it to work. I'm going to try first with my treo. If that doesn't work I'll try one of these phones.

Ditto on Brian's link. I pair with a 755p just fine.

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
My N800 worked out-of-the-box with my Sprint Treo 700P
edit: I had previously installed the DUN hack. |

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
N800 works great with the Palm Centro.
Windows Mobile 5 (and presumably WM6 as well) doesn't come with the Bluetooth DUN profile, only PAN. The N800 does not support PAN, only DUN. Therefore you can't use a WM5 or WM6 phone with the N800. |
Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
logicprobe,
Can you give more info on your personal experience with the centro and n800? speed? installed pdanet? coverage? etc... thanks |

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
The centro supports it..

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Thanks dkwatts. That's what I had heard, that the Mogul and the Centro would be upgradeable to support it, but I couldn't find anything firm, and I couldn't find a list of which phones would be upgradeable. I did my due dilligence on google, but never hit paydirt.
scrappy898 does your Centro support rev A now? ImDisaster had recommended the Centro in another thread, and that's what I am leaning towards (plus who can argue with the $99 pricetag?). Thanks. |
Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
I work for Sprint, all the EVDO phones that have been out in the last 4-6 months are Rev A capable- but are only operating @ Rev 0.
I tried the M500, worked good, tired a m610 (both of these are samsungs) and it worked the best so far. Also there is a work around for Samsung phones to enable free PAM (Phone As Modem) use. Thats why I'm picking mostly Samsung phones. |

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Yeah- well if you buy a phone from anywhere but Sprint you can do it w/o renewing your contract- but the prices are what they are. If you've had the phone less than 1 year its full price w/ sprint, and @ 22months you get the cheapest listed price but you have to renew your contract. Anytime you get any price break or special or freebie you're basically signing a contract. So be wary. Check into the m610 online- its a discontinued Sprint phone but IMHO it's the best PAM phone. Super thin and basic appearances- but good connectivity and if I remember right it's still rev A capable.

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
I've been toying with signing up with with Sprint through SERO. Any reason to wait until after new year (i.e., anything new being released and/or program improvement)? And it sounds like Mogul or Centro are my best options; is that right?

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Well there is now the HTC Touch (the Mogul's "upgrade" less PDA but more smartphone,) the Centro, & the Blackberry Pearl 2. But the BB Pearl2 doesn't come out for another 2 weeks. Those are the only new phones I as a low level "insider" know about. I'll try to keep this thread updated if I hear anything new on the horizon, or run into any problems in my own tests.

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
biomimetic, thanks for giving weight to what I had heard!
I'm going for the Centro once my current contract is up (I still have 8 weeks). My biggest fear (and this will seem weak here) is that the Centro will do so much that I won't care about the second device in my pocket (the N800). After seeing a few posts from much more long-timers than I am, that 'one device doing things right' is what they were really looking for (the iPhone) I am concerned that picking out a nice data phone with a good ketboard (good being relative to the on screen keyboard) will make me fall into that same camp. Not that I have anything against that camp. With a Centro (or any other good phone) will I have to wait for the data synch (even 20 secs is a wait) or will the n800 just fire up a data request? I ask because I've had laptops that just get on with the data, and I've had others that take 20 secs to authenticate first. Sad as it may sound, that 20 sec warm up is a deal breaker. When i pull something out of my pocket, I want it to work then. Any tips? |
Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Something that has been mentioned in other forums is that the unlimited data part of SERO may no longer be available in 2008. Anyone with further insight on this?

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
I have a Centro and initially using the built-in connectivity of the n800 it would pair, but the two devices would not talk to each other. I read a post on this forum about using USBmodem (you can search for it), and then downloaded the trial version onto my Centro. It was all pretty easy. USBmodem asks if you want to disable built-in DUN and you say 'yes'. After that you pair the two devices and then connect. From my location n800 web surfing through Sprint was slower than wifi, but quite acceptable.
Surfing the Web on my Centro alone is much less enjoyable on its small screen than using my n800 and connecting through the Centro to Sprint. The Centro is a very cool (geeky) phone, but there is no chance that the Centro will replace my tablet. Ron |

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
For anyone who cares... I have spent days researching ways to get the N800 to work with my Centro. I have finally done it and it is much easier than I thought.
I have Sprint SERO with Unlimited Data Palm Centro Nokia N800 1. Install USB Modem 2. From the USB Modem Menu disable Built in DUN on the Centro 3. Phone will do a Soft Boot 4. Start USB Modem again and set it to Bluetooth mode then Enable Modem. 5. Pair the Nokia with the Centro as a trusted device 6. Go through the Cell Provider Setup wizard for Sprint. 7. Go to the Control Panel and select connectivity 8. Edit your Sprint connection. 9. Set it to dial #777 Username and Password fields leave Blank Your done ... enjoy... Hope this helps some other users. |

Why?: when I started researching, bboilard's post was not in this thread. I stop researching after bboilard's posted. bboilard wins the "Best All-Time 1st Post Award"! The instructions are brilliant! |
Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
I'm coming in somewhat late to the thread, but wanted to mention that the N800 will work with a Sprint HTC Touch... so long as you're using PDA Net. (As most people are aware, all Windows Mobile 6 devices from Sprint have the Bluetooth DUN profile removed in their stock configuration -- hence the need for PDA Net.)

Sprint will software upgrade the Mogul to Rev A in 2008!

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
I guess my n800 is working with my Sprint PPC 6700 with PDA Net), but i don't know why or how. It is paired Ok and PDANet shows BT DUN as ready. When I run the phone connection wizard it does not show Sprint as a carrier. It shows AT&T, AllTel, etc, etc. but no recognizable CDMA cellphone carriers. I picked CDW Data (whoever that is) and it works, but I don't know why. I can't get DSL Reports to work (either mobile phone of Java). One CNet broadband speed report showed only 111k which really s*cks.
How come the list doesn't include Sprint? |

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Sprint first to offer EV-DO Rev. A-Capable Handset
Sprint said Monday it was releasing a software update for the Mogul phone, made by HTC Corp. of Taiwan, that will enable the phone to connect at Rev. A speeds. Downloads speeds should be 600 kilobits per second to 1,400 kbps, up from a range of 400 kbps to 700 kbps with Rev. 0. It will be capable of uploads of 350 to 500 kbps, up from 50 kbps to 70 kbps. |
Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
from what I'm reading it sounds like the centro does not have Rev. A capability :(

Re: A Sprint phone that works with the N800
Did you able to get n800 to work with Treo 700wx now?
