Where is your money going this Christmas?

With Christmas around the corner...... budget low and in need of a new gadget? Where is your money going?

Re: Where is your money going this Christmas?

I was so sure that I would get the next version of Nokia N800 whenever it gets released that I hardly showed any interest in devices with similar capabilities. N810 announced, my decision changed and I started taking interest in ASUS Eee PC. The fact that there is NO way to expand its memory storage(other than attaching a non-portable external USB hard disk) made me give up on it.

Now I am thinking about Archos 640 WiFi. Never owned an Archos device, so should be a good experience to see how a full-fledged media player performs with various media formats when compared to my current favourite N800. Unless something more interesting comes up, I am going to buy it this Christmas.

Despite being poorer than a church mouse, I've placed orders for one of the inexpensive N800s. Additionally an Eee has been delivered to my house. Sadly I'm away for the weekend visiting relatives

Both are so damn cheap, yet innovative, that I really had no choice. Technology for the masses!

Re: Where is your money going this Christmas?

Nothing for me this year. Looked at the Eee, even looked at the N810. By boss gave me a laptop and a BlackBerry and they made my N800 being without a job. Haven't booted it up since.
So i guess this XMas the money goes to the wife and kids.

My Xmas money just went to a Pepper Pad 3. Woohoo! (no Eee, sob sob!)

As it's coming from the States, I just hope I'll get it before Xmas.

Nothing for me for Xmas proper this year.

Last Xmas I bought me a Kohjinsha SA1 which is like the hidden ancestor of the Asus EEE.
Thus I know that these tiny devices are hugely useful and enjoyable, AND very complementary to the Nokia tablets (I still use my 770 as much as before). But I'm not in any haste to get one, will wait until the dust, hype and frenzy settles down.

As for the N810, as I already have a BT GPS and keyboard, I have just snagged a cheap (for Europe :-) N800 on the local eBay. I hope it arrives just in time for the OS2008 release, so I can join in the fun without having to wait again for an OS2008HE for my 770 :-)

well, it's still rumours, vaporware and fairy dust so far, but I'll be eligible for a Tmobile low price upgrade again on December 1st, Tmobile USA is supposedly going to be the first to offer a gphone, gphone doesn't run windows mobile, gphone isn't an iphone, and I think I just love everything google does...

PS3 for me, probably the 40GB version - I've got to have something on which to watch my all time favourite film, the Blu-Ray edition of "Blade Runner - The Final Cut"! :)

haven't been paying attention to prices for the ps3? Have they drop alittle?

Just got my n800 a few weeks back and have been gobbling up accessories like a mofo (uh... the Zune case I picked up at Office Depot today for $7 on clearance that is meant to hold a Zune and all of it's accessories? WAY TOO BIG! I was dazzled by the low low price. I suppose I'll find a use for it though.).

Cancelled my Asus pre-order when n800 prices dropped radically.

My Christmukkah bonus to myself is going to be a new monitor. If a 24" comes around at a decent price it's 24. If not, a 22" will do. 19" 1280x1024 just isn't cutting it any longer.

The 40GB PS3 can be picked up for £299, which is about the right price for me considering it's a games console AND a high def DVD spinner AND a media hub. With dedicated Blu-Ray players starting at £500-£600 the PS3 is a bargain! :)

I'm shopping the Eee pc or something similar for the wifey, this year. She's been using a P2 notebook running linux for a couple years, and the hardware is showing it's age, even if she doesn't really notice.

I *just* got a PP3 and so far I'm liking it a lot. So far, I've installed OO.o2, Pidgin, Portabase, Skype (1.4) and plan on taking it with me on my next trip. I also plan on taking my N800, but from what I've seen so far, that will be what I throw in my pocket, not what I'll use to actually do my work ('ve tried doing work on the N800 for a couple trips now).

About 3 pounds and I'll be abe to carry both without much extra weight.

Well, so far some kid I don't know and I are both getting an OLPC thanks to the buy-one, get-one they are doing. 399, 200 of which is tax-deductable. http://www.laptopgiving.org/en/index.php You even get a year of Tmo hotspot. What the heck - give and get.

Probably going to get n810 (maybe depends on how impressed I am with 2008 on n800, but I *really* want keyboard and GPS ), might save & wait for next Eee with 1gig/8gig.

Re: Where is your money going this Christmas?

Just ordered the OLPC as well, and keeping my N810 preorder too.
Sorry, Asus :)

I'm keeping an eye on the neo 1973 in hopes that it will offer DUN for my 770 internet tablet connect through it. Since I still need GPS + a cell phone the openmoko looks like it'll be right up my alley to tinker with next to maemo.

Now that's a nice statement. Based on something? I mean, screen resolution is the same, full keyboard, full linux distri that i can change if i want to, it's small, has USB's and video out. What more do you/i want? A platform where it's difficult to port applications to? It must be difficult becuse if not, there would have been millions of apps already. Like for the Eee.

Am i wrong? What is your "crazy" statement based on?

Ton.

Agree 100%; but I keep my N800 instead of buy an Eee because I have spent 250 bucks and that's my top price for that kind of gadget (already have a 14" notebook too); If my buying choice would be an N810 or Eee (similar priced), no doubt, I go for the Eee

That's a fact too, but not sure if that's because of the platform or maybe not too much developers interested/involved.

As a former Kohjinsha owner (similar form factor that Eee) I can tell you that´s really portable too.

Re: Where is your money going this Christmas?

Well. I'm fine with the N800. Looking at current ebay prices. with selling the n800 I'd still have to pay 200€. Too much for GPS and keyboard. (Don't really need these.) The EEE isn't good enough. The display kills it. (I'm used to 1920x1200) 800x480 isn't good enough (I have a 3 year old laptop anyway). Well. Since I'm into Stepmania alot I think I might get myself a Wii. I guess I could have a lot of fun with it. Or maybe I'll just safe the money...

This is most certainly not my night.

I first read that as: "Since I'm into Stepmama alot"...
