Pidgin Install problem
I just followed the directions for installing the new version of Pidgin. I thought I followed the steps but when I go to install it I get the message Unable to install, some application packages required for the installation are missing. Can anyone help me? I would like to use AIM on my 800. If I have to unstall can you help me with that also>
Thank you for any help you can offer. Kathy |
Re: Pidgin Install problem
Do you have these repositories? exactly?
Catalogue name: Pidgin On Maemo Web address: http://idefix.go-nix.ca/nix Distribution: bora Components: pidgin Catalogue name: Maemo Hackers Web address: http://maemo-hackers.org/apt Distribution: mistral Components: main |
Thank You
Alvin, thanks for taking the time to respond to my call for help. I check the catalogues and I had one wrong. I changed it and now I can IM on AOL and check my email.
Once again thank you. Kathy |
Re: Pidgin Install problem
I got fault now that it does not support my version. I have the newest software on the N800 (actually came with it) so is pidgin not updated for the last update?
I tried to install from maemo.org |

Re: Pidgin Install problem
sorry. I remember when I first got my N800 feeling lost also.
For Pidgin you are best to follow the steps here http://pidgin.garage.maemo.org/ Just make sure you set Distribution: bora and not chinook as it shows in the instructions. For the N800 you just need the two catalogs like I posted further up in this thread. (This version of the operating system on the N800 is called OS2007, or code name bora. The next version, out next month, is OS2008, or code name chinook. The distribution line in the catalog you set up in Application manager needs to say bora for now.) |
Re: Pidgin Install problem
that helped a bit.. now I found pidgin. Now I just miss some libgnutls13

Distribution: mistral - I know, this kind of goes against what I just said, but that is how pidgin gets the required libraries Quote:

Re: Pidgin Install problem
There's your problem :) corrected that maemo-hackers with mistral and it works.

Re: Pidgin Install problem
hey guys can anyone here please help me out with getting pidgin running?
if i try to install pidgin with all the required repositories noted it still fails on a dependancy for libgutls and libgcrypt. if i stick my n800 into red pill mode i can at least see those libraries are there but trying to get libgutls11 also fails to install. which makes me think that is probably why the pidgin install is failing in the first place. any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated peoples. |
Re: Pidgin Install problem
Well this explains why I've been unable to update to the latest version.... kinda weird. Does anyone know why they reverted the naming on the repo's?
