Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Wizard Mounter allow you to mount remote resources like NFS or SAMBA. It let you manage different bookmarks so you can save different profile for different network.

I was told it does not work in 700. I would love to get that for 770 too

Will this work on OS 2008? Is this basically a gui shell to map network file shares more easily? Does one need to first install any kernel modules and the like, or will this package do it for you?

I can't answer about 2008, but this is a GUI to do what you said. The modules you need are already in the kernel. You can mount things manually if you want/need.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Nope, doesn't work in 2008. Missing nfs-modules.

sevo 2007-11-14 20:51

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Which is silly - probably most people don't need or want NFS sharing. That module should be loaded (or its presence tested) whenever it is actually used, and not at startup.

In any case, Wizard Mounter still is far from being finished. It can't:

1. delete Bookmarks with a blank in them (bug)
2. mount shares with a blank in their name (bug)
3. mount CIFS shares from bookmarks at all (bug)
4. edit or review bookmarks (missing feature)
5. make bookmarks accessible anywhere else than in the cryptic edit/delete/execute dialog (design issue)
6. give status information beyond the output of "mount"
7. unmount (missing feature)
8.show all options in a accessible dialog (the type buttons are obscured by the virtual keyboard)

IMHO created bookmarks should show up as icons on a file browser like window, while the current quick mount and bookmarks icons should better be relegated to menu items. Besides, bookmarks must work either way, as mounters as well as unmounters. And it should not make mount generally executable in sudoers - mount/umount restricted to the target directory would do, and is more secure.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

I just installed this (after tracking down the dependencies) on OS2007HE. Doesn't seem to want to mount anything, SMB, NFS, or otherwise. Good attempt at a wrapper but as mentioned above, needs more features.

With default OS2008 File manager, I can access the WinXP PW Free Sharing folder & Files.
But Can't access the Folder with the Vista system. Only the Computer Name is
show within the network. How Can I access those Vista No PW Folders?

P.S.: All/Any Computer can read/Write that Vista PW Free Sharing folder with a
real Computer with OS WinXP & Vista.

P.S.: Do we need Wizard Mounter if we only need to access WinXP Sharing Folder?
Since OS2008 is already can access the XP share folder....

Thanks......!

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

FYI, given the speed difference between NFS and Samba on most Linux systems, i'd much prefer to use NFS when possible. Just my opinion, but I find nfs pretty simple and intuitive to use, samba not so much.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

I have recently got my N800 and I have installed OS2008 on it. Its working fine. I was trying to access my Laptop (windows XP Media center edition) shared files from N800, to do so I have opened File manager and found few other network machines/folder but not mine laptop. I have turned off my Norton Internet Security Firewall (windows firewall is already tured off by default, since its using Norton firewall), then tried it again but could not see my sahred files/folder from laptop. However I can see the same shared folders from other Laptop/Machine (windows XP) and even from my Archos 604wifi.

I have tried Installing Wizard Mounter, but it said "Missing modules", I have tried to find/install those modules but could get it.

My laptop is listed in "workgroup" (not in domain), I have full privilges on my user ID on laptop.

Could somebody help me to get the network shared files from my laptop on N800. I don't know why its not listing my sahred folders in "file manager".

I also wanted to reverse, I mean if I could access my N800 from my Laptop, is it possible? I appreciate your help.

Thanks.
Arun.

Could you share your experience with me? Actually I am not able to access/see any file/folders from my laptop/xp. I have N800 with 2008. I have turned off my norton firewall but could not get through.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Seems like the wizard mounter for OS2008 depends on Wizard Mounter depends on
rx-34-kernel-nfs-modules and portmap.

I'd love to find the nfs module for my N800 as being a pure Linux household, using samba is not really worthwhile! anyone know where it be?

I could install Wizard Mounter on my N800 running OS2008. But I don't know how to make it work. Let's say, in the most simple occasion: how to share files through Windows XP or Vista? What should we do to get it to work?

Thanks.

I've installed the Wizard Mounter ITOS2008 version on my N810, and it launches and I can fill in the mount information and then it goes away. I go to FileManager and it has a Remote Filesystem folder with nothing in it. I don't see anyway to see what is going on.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

If you have any of the parameters wrong for the connection you are trying to setup, it won't mount and you end up with the empty folder you described. For me it was the checkbox for either NFS or SAMBA. Once I picked SAMBA the folder was no longer empty. Hope that's helpful! :)

I cant' seem to get this to install on Diablo as it needs kernel modules for the old kernel. Any way around this?

yacoob, did that actually work for you? When I try to install it from there, once the installer reaches the Application manager, it says "Unable to install rx-34-kernel-modules-extra. Incompatible application package".

I am on diablo.

TPC 2008-09-13 22:11

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

It will not work on diablo, those kernel modules are not compiled for the same kernel that is in diablo, even if the package installed you wouldn't be able to load them.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Yes, it works (at least nfs, i did not try smb) on diablo.

First, download the corresponding package for chinook (xxx.deb)

Then, invoke

apt-get intall nfs-common kernel-diablo-modules-extra
dpkg --ignore-depends=rx34-kernel-modules-extra -i xxx.deb

Wizard Mounter problem

Hello to all!

I have a strange problem.
Last week I installed Easy Debian-Turbo Charged (great port,by the way!) and I was uninspired to install a few applications on it.While installing the system asked me to update few components, which I accepted (silly me).
This created some conflicts which stopped Wizard Mounter (in Maemo) from working.
I reflashed the device hoping to solve the problem.

But Wizard Mounter refused to install claiming it needs a file RX34-kernel-modules-extra.
Have googled it and installed the components.
Now when I try to install Wizard Mounter it gets thru, but I can't find the Icon in Menus
I looked for the files with Midnight Commander and found them , but they are not in USR/Bin . Instead they are in Root.
This is as far as my knowledge could take me.
Can you please help?
Is it an Installation problem?
Am I still missing components?
Can I create a shortcut to start the program?
Your help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

If you're using Diablo, make sure this repository is enabled. (Diablo/tools)

And try installing the newest build of Wizard Mounter (1.2) from here.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Got it working. This is how I did it. Running Diablo - latest build.
a) Add repository Maemo diablo/tools
Contains kernel-diablo-modules-extra and portmap
b) Become root (I have rootsh installed from Diablo maemo extras)
c) Run apt-get install kernel-diablo-modules-extra portmap
d) Install Wizard-Mounter v1.2 from https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...o4.1_armel.deb
e) You're done!

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

So I got wizard-mounter to install by...

apt-get remove wizard-mounter

apt-get remove rx-34-kernel-modules-extra

apt-get install wizard-mounter

It installed, but no icon was added to the Extras menu. Can't get samba shares to mount. They show up properly when running df -h but the mount directory is empty for some reason. Haven't tried NFS yet.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

I had the same problem.
Looks like a bug in instalation package.

I did the following:
1) I installed the Wiz.Mounter from the packages present in App.Manager.
This will install it but no icon.
2) Go to following address:
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...elease_id=2339

and click on wizard-mounter_1.2-maemo4.1_armel.deb

The system will ask if you want to open/download it.
Say open.
Then will ask you if you want to install Wiz Mounter-say yes again.
Will show you the new package is 0 kb.
No problem - go on with instalation.
The system will report success.
And if you check , you'll find the icon and the software works.

I can't explain why, but it does.

Good luck.

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

Thanks for the trick, it worked. Oddly enough Wizard Mounter shows up app manager's updates, but if you update it, it removes the icon again. The app also says Wizard Mounter 1.1 on the top of the screen when opened. Odd.

Anyone know why my samba mount to a windoze box is acting like it is?

godd 2009-02-15 23:34

Re: Wizard Mounter v. 1.0 RELEASED!

I have had Wizard-Mounter 1.0 installed for quite a while and it worked like a charm. But after updating it to 1.1 something is getting wrong. I still can mount and mounted shares appeared in file manager under Remote_Filesystem but they are always empty - no folders/files.
I tried Samba shares. It is possible I forgot how properly to setup them though :) Can someone remind me what should I put in Username/Password fields if it is a Network folder on NAS which I can browse freely from XP machine or if it is a public shared folder on XP?
Thanks.

Also after some time Shared folders entry no longer is presented in the left panel of a maemo file manager. I tried to rerun it and reboot a couple of times - no results.
Can it be related to the new kernel-diablo-modules-extra?
