Internet radio stations

Hi all:

For those who use (or might want to use) internet radio...

First, can any OS2008 user tell me which stations are preprogrammed into the new OS?

Second (and this is for everyone), I'd love to hear what types of stations you might want, and how you might prefer to access them (presets, nested menus, cranial scans, etc). I'll be working on making this a better experience for everyone, and want to hit the ground running when my N810 arrives. Any feedback/suggestions would be great, but please keep the "internet radio sucks" comments to a minimum (or at least make them funny).

Cheers,

TenSpeed

The OS2008 preset stations are the same as the OS2007 presets... 5 BBC stations.

But in the Media Player there's now an Internet radio / Directory provided by the "Nokia Internet Radio service" that consists of roughly 400+ stations. I have no idea where they get the directory information from or how/when it might be updated.

Jeffgrado, I do too (SKY.FM) however when I add links from there to my N800 ( OS2007 ) using "add links to media library" (Media Player), the titles come out incorrect. Afterwards the links I added work but the titles are all screwed up. I'll add a link from DIGITALLY-IMPORTED-Ambient, then add a link from SKY.FM-Mostly Classical, then another from DIGITALLY-IMPORTED-Chillout and what I end up with is three links that appear as DIGITALLY-IMPORTED-Ambient...

The the three identical looking link titles bring up the library channel I wanted saved, but the title is wrong. Similar thing happens when I add links to my N800 Media Player library from SKY.FM-Hit70s, and other channels. Argh. Any idea what is going on?

It is important that the library works for this because selecting SKY.FM and DI.FM channels (tuning) from the web browser each time takes forever due to the SKY.FM website taking a very long time to render on my N800 (works fine on my desktop PC). Any idea why the titles get written wrong? Any way I can fix them using the xterm console? Thanks.

I've seen this, what I have found is that if you "add links to media library" from within your browser(perhaps a MicroB issue?) this happens(named wrong), but if you click the link to play the url, it loads in media player then once it plays you can hold the stylus down on one of the streams(if there are more than 1 listed) and add to library there it seems to work fine...

I've been meaning to report this as a bug on maemo.org

hmmmm....interesting thanx. I can confirm for you that I was using the Opera Browser though. Maybe I'll try microB and see if that works better. I have spent considerable time on it this morning. I'm too embarrassed to admit just how long. If MicroB does the same thing then I'm just gonna live with it. Thank you.

I use MicroB so I know it does it on it as well...

Try adding using the other method I mentioned...

Re: Internet radio stations

A critical point that people should know about this is it is necessary to STOP the Media Player stream PRIOR to adding the stream to the library. If you do it while it is actually playing the stream you stack more wrong titles atop the wrong ones you already have. I just determined this. argh.

I did try your method. See my post above. It is important to stop the player, then add the title to the library. I'm erasing all my library entries and starting over. Wish me luck.

I was hoping it was the shoutcast directory, but apparently not.

However, I'm pretty sure it can be fixed in some config files. I'll take a look when im free.

It's grabbing them from idirectory.xgns.net, which seems to be hard coded into libgisds and libmetalayer.

I thought this was an OS2008 thread. Different OS/browser/media player versions may exhibit different behaviours.

Good find. Sure enough, the xgns.net domain is owned by Nokia.

Personally, I'm very glad that it can play my WSOU stream (Seton Hall's college radio station, for hard rock and metal.) I moved away from NJ but haven't heard anything nearly as good where I moved, so its great that I finally now have a device other than my computer that can stream RM.

I am a fan of:

kcrw.com
kqed.com
ijpr.net

the ijpr one uses the annoying "service" abacast. I haven't checked to see if it works with the 2008OS yet.

To those that complained of Di.fm and Sky.fm's page loading slow on the nokia just use the Mobile version of there page, loads very quickly.

I've been using the stations contained in the directory that comes with Media Player, and they work fine. However, I noticed that the song title display does not update as the songs change, but instead remains on whatever song was playing when I first started listening to the stream. If I switch to the library view, and then back to the title view, the title will update itself. Is there a way to have the song titles update automatically?

I experienced the same problem but do not know a solution though. Another problem is that the Internet Radio applet only displays the favorite radio stations. Is there a way to add radio stations from the directory to the favorite category?

you have to select the feed in the directory then hit the context menu> add media bookmark
