Re: ii am posting from my new 810
What?! Any idea how deep that list was? Did they have any on display? I feel a Metra ride coming on tomorrow... (A couple blocks west of Navy Pier, right?)

Re: ii am posting from my new 810
It took you almost 3 hours to pick it up? Slacker! (My obligatory snarky comment was gonna be that or something about a sticky 'i' key) :) So, how is it?! I've read reviews by 'tech guys' thus far, I'm really wondering about the end user experience.
It's funny, I washed up here a while before the 770 was released and can remember the excitement... and I remember the day I got it (dec 19th 2005) ;) and setting it down next to my keys and saying 'wow' over and over because it was so small, yet the screen was so crisp. While I'm eagerly awaiting more on the N810, I think there's less geeky excitement... like the product, the excitement's more mature. :) Lookin forward to comments! |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
Congrats and welcome to the (so far very small) family!

Re: ii am posting from my new 810
A question to people who have been tortured by waiting for the coolest new gadget on the planet before :)
Once the Nokia Stores have the device, how long does that usually translate for receipt by Online stores? How about Retailers like CompUSA |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810

|
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
keyboard will also improve on time as the key pressing will become easier after it loses a bit of tension. This means a few weeks of use. I love the kb.

Re: ii am posting from my new 810

Re: ii am posting from my new 810
having played with this a bit today....some first impressions (and now i am on my laptop so it is easier to type (any typos are mine not the nokia's)
it feels smaller than my 770 and sturdier - maybe the difference between titanium and black plastic it is absolutely zippier both on the web and apps on the machine the new 2008 interface is much more "user friendly" it reminds me of the difference between my old win98 interface and my current osx (tiger) it is definitely "prettier" i do not see any functional difference between the interface from 2007HE and 2008 operating system wise i like 2008 better eg it looks like you can now import bookmarks whereas on 2006 and 2007HE you could not import bookmarks-- nokia has some interesting sites bookmarked which i will explore later and i am glad i do not have to overwrite them to get my bookmarks on the tablet more later when i have a chance to do some more with the tablet - but in short as of 1 day w/it = its definitely a keeper (the gps is fantastic- it is the only gps that has found my house where it should be- google maps my garmin all have my house about 100 feet east of a service drive when my house is directly west of the service drive- waypoint found me correctly... |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
becomeroot works!

Sweettt!! I got mine today from the Flagship NY Store
I love IT!
I actually am upgrading to N810 right after N770 I didn't use N800 so lots of things to catch up... I boot it up, tried the skype but it is not available yet. I wanted to run REAL VNC (it was one of the programs I used the most) but I haven't seen it anywhere too... Everytime I need to input something I double click wait for the virtual keypad to appear :) And then recall that there is an actual keyboard somewhere :) |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
I do like the new click sound :)
the one on 770 kinda was a little too annoying. This click sound is neat :) First thing I said when I holded it was "OMG it is lighter" I haven't checked any tech specs about the weight yet but I am pretty sure it is much lighter than 770 and it feels great! As far as the software goes, I had no luck installing Gizmo and skype like I said skype is not ready, and gizmo was unable to install somehow... This reminds me the nights I spent with my 770 just to get stuff right :) I love playing with the internet tablet. |

Does micro browser run as painfully slow as it does on the 800? Rendering took too long.

Only thing that pisses me off is that nothing is ready to be installed :) I need VNC, Skype, Gizmo, etc... I also have problems accesing my network harddrive thru the file manager. I don't know if it is because I have pass protection on the network drive, but I'll try removing the pass and try it that way. I regret that I upgraded my NSLU2 with WRT350N and then my WRT350N to DSM-G600 WRT350N is piece of junk only reason I didn't get NSLU2 back is DSM-G600 had gigabit port, well BELIEVE IT OR NOT NSLU2 was FASTER! I could watch videos off of same harddrive from 2 different computers! with DSM-G600 I cannot even watch video without all the pausing! I know it is off topic but I really apriciate if people tell me their stories with network storage cause seems like I will get something that will perform GREAT |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
How long does the GPS take to get a fix on the final unit?

I couldn't get any fix on my backyard, I will have to play with it a little more.

Re: ii am posting from my new 810
Have the same question about GPS initialization.
In Dan's video he said it took 4-5 minutes ... which is unacceptable in my opinion. With modern GPS chips and normal circumstances 60 secs should be the norm. So, I hope either it was a hickup for Dan and/or that Nokia fixed it, or at least can improve it maybe (firmware? software) RE: Network storage - gigabit speed. Some manufacturers plaster a gigabit port on the board, but the chipset is outdated / slow bus / ... they don't work faster than fast ethernet. I have some NSLU2. Upgraded to a WD My Book World Edition Gigabit network drive. Or so I thought. What a piece of junk! Features are very limited. Comes with trial software for remote access that is awful as well. And, on top of it all it is only a fraction faster than a NSLU. And, I mean small fraction. Only works at 5mb/s. Does not have a sleep function. Hard drive kept spinning. Device ran hot. I'd say avoid the WD My Book World as the plague. Fortunately I was able to return mine to the store. Right now I am looking into synology. They seem solid performers with loads of features. Also have a look at smallnetbuilder site. Loads of info there on various products. (plus confirmation that the MyBook WE is horribly slow. Only I bough mine months before they tested it) |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
@ Munky261.
I would have carpooled and split the gas. I contemplated that trip for an hour yesterday morning. As it sits, I am currently waiting for mine to be shipped from Nokia. |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
anybody else having any issues with the touchscreen and clicking small links , such as the numbers for these pages???
|
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
On the desktop it works fine ... but then I'm used to being on forums as well.
On the tablet it is trickier. |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
Icerabbit, Thanks a lot for your post about the storage link thing...
I will look into synology and get something that worths the money. For GPS Fix I really didn't have much time but I believe I waited almost 2 mins but no fix. |
Re: ii am posting from my new 810
I picked up this card, it's only 4g, but you could get 3 for the price of the sandisk 8g.
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...879&adid=17662 I have no idea if it will work with the 810.. I'm still waiting (one of the "lucky" 500 ;) ) to buy mine. Congrates on your new addition. |
