Happy accident...with the screen.

I just received another n800. This time when I pulled the screen protector off, I pulled the tab in the wrong direction and the little tab came off leaving the whole screen protector behind.

I could still pull it off, but I actually think the screen touch responsiveness is still fine and the color and brightness looks fine too. Might be a decent screen protector!!!

This is kinda like what I did with a 770 I had for a while. I took a piece of transparent projector paper and cut it to be just bigger than the size of the screen. then I slid it in (so that it went a little under the plastic rim to hold it in) and that was it. When it got dirty or scratched up I could take it out and clean it or replace it.

I left the original too but it got really fast scratched to the point you couldn't see. Afterwards I saw that the stylus moves much nicer without it.
In my opinion, it is far from a decent screen protector even though never used a real one.

The default one doesn't last for long.

Without the tab, you may have difficulties removing it later too. At least from my exp.

Any piece of adhesive tape will do nicely...

I spent $8 on some PSP screen protectors. After measuring it turns out that the height of the protector is correct it is just length that must be shortened. Anyhow, I've been using the same protector since February and it has only gotten a couple of noticeable scratches on it. Just be warned it is incredibly annoying to put on (it is the slightly adhesive type).

Yeah, I used the shipping screen protector for the first few weeks I had my N800. It was ok, but it scratched and scuffed very, very quickly.

I bought some typical, generic, impossible-to-work-with, trim-to-size-yourself, yeah-right-this-will-only-end-in-tears, store-stock screen protectors to replace it with, and then promptly gave up on actually getting one onto the N800.

I've used it since with no screen protection, and it's no worse for the wear. No scratches, dings, dents, scrapes, nada, nothing. It's a tough little bugger.

Just a warning about PSP and some other screen protectors. The PSP doesn't have a touchscreen, and some of the protectors designed for it are actually quite stiff. That could significantly hinder the performance of the touchscreen.

I'd suggest sticking to protectors that are at least designed for touchscreen devices (eg. PDAs).

Personally, I don't use a protector... and the wife is OK with that. ;)

Also, I tried a PSP protector on my N800 and it totally messed up the D-pad, even if it didn't go under the screen edges.

I'm sticking to protectors "built" for the 770/N800 now... and they don't complain either.

I have had my N800 for 9 months now with no screen protector and have no scratches on the screen.

Has anyone ever scratched the screen on an N800 I wonder? And if so, what on earth do they do to do that!?

After some suggestions in the forum, I have dedided not to use a screen protector. Screen is scratch free so far (three months of heavy use); my only rule is keep the screen clean of dust (I use a special liquid for touchscreens), so as some suggest, maybe if you drag particles or dust can scratch the screen.

I had scratched my 770's screen when my dog, a 45 kg (100+ lb) Alaskan Malamute, decided to trample on it :) Just a single, almost unnoticable, scratch though.

My screen is scratched along the browser scrollbar line. It's a mild scratch and is not noticeable in most light. I assume it got there from a year's worth of using my stylus to scroll there. In retrospect, I would have gotten a screen protector.

I use a Martin Fields overlay, which is washable and re-usable and has done a fantastic job.

I use their overlays on everything I can -- N95 has one too.

Probably using a wrong stylus or pen by mistake usually does it.

I got mine a similar period and if you go in the sunlight and try different angles you can see some tiny ones (I suspect mahjong or how this game is called that my wife played on holidays - I need to blame someone else!) and few more where the scroll-down bar is.

All of them are tiny ones and I have the feeling that all caused when you tilt the stylus a little bit more and move. Dust should help too.
