NOKIA N810 hard reset
Dear All!
Does anyone know how to do hard reset on N810? Not that one decribed in manual which does not delete installed apps? I wonder if there is a way to do factory reset on N810? I installed some apps and I can't remove those - if anybody knows how to bring N810 back to factory settings. THANKS!!! |

Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
to flash the OS...
go to http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=products,n810 and click on "Update your Software" If on a PC you can download the Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard. |
Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
Thanks!
I tried to do that via software update several time and every time right at the end I get an error message that USB cable got disconnected??? I installed some nasty programs and there is no way I can get rid of those. I wonder if I could do "real" factory restore with deleting all 3rd party programs? Many thanks! |
Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
when you start the n810. keep holding down the start AND fullscreen button. when you see the usb symbol in the top right corner, release the fullscreen button.

Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
No, it did not show USB symbol - I did similar action when upgrading flash - start and swap button.
I wonder if there is a way to restore original image from Nokia N810 itself? Thanks! |
Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
No the Nokia doesnt have storage to keep a 200 some meg image of itself in flash memory. Just follow all the directions from the flash tool and you should be able to default it.
You can also use the control panel to sort of "reset" the device. Click Control Panel then click the menu of it on the top left and goto Tools > Restore original settings or clear device. both of those options will leave some files intact...not a pure reset like re-flashing it however. From the help file. Restore original settings : "...This funtion does not affect the content you have created..." Clear device data : "...this funtion does not affect the applets you have installed..." I hope this helps |

Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
Does this re-set all sofware on the unit, including any custom partitions? I just bought a used N810 off of ebay and all that came with it was the unit itself, 1 stylus, the battery inside the unit and the wall power charging adapter; nothing else. Whoever the guy was that sold it to me, he'd set it up with 2 separate bootable partitions, each with it's own desktop and no ability to access the other or any programs installed on the other. The one listed on the start-up menu listed as 'flash' was the one I was using, but it suddenly started crashing and restarting the system as soon as it finished starting up. I want to erase everything on the whole unit and start over from scratch; is there a simple way to do this without connecting to a computer, or will I have to get the USB cord needed for the unit? If I have to connect it to a computer via the USB, can this be done off of a Windows 7 system?

Re: NOKIA N810 hard reset
Just reflash the device.
http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware Although I advise against it till you learn more; depending on what you do, soon you could find yourself with a device which can't boot because you fiddled with something you shouldn't and myself recommending you to set up a boot from mmc if you don't want to reflash again. Boot from mmc and learn to fix the flash partition. Then keep booting and playing from mmc, and use the flash partition to boot and fix mmc if you break it. |
