Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

Adblock Plus for MicroB has been released and can be found in the Browser-Extras repository. No news posting about it on the Browser Extras site yet.

After installing it, I went to cnn.com and on top of the page a big Sears banner appeared... I hope Adblock Filterset.G Updater will be ported too.

Adblock Plus and Filterset.G Updater aren't friends anymore. Go to Known Adblock Plus subscriptions and click on the links for those that tickle your fancy. I've only added EasyElement+EasyList thus far, but it covers quite a lot.

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

uhm, installed, subscribed to 2 lists: EasyElement+EasyList
Restarted the browser, it said updating something...

and still get ads on slashdot (while on desktop this works)

Anyone get this? (the plugin is checked in the component as active)

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

Did any other bora users have trouble using the .install file? It appears to claim that this is chinook-only, but I was able to grab the .deb directly and install fine.

How did you subscribe?
When I hit the "subscribe" links I get a pop up from the browser that says address type not supported or somesuch

You did install Adblock Plus first, yes?

Is this working well for anyone?

It really likes to suck up gobs and gobs of CPU and RAM on mine :(

Takes ages just to start the browser now.

Yes. I have the same problem.

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

Uhm, that's weird...
When i click subscribe on adblock's page i get asked for the subscription title and after i click OK i get asked for "Filter list location" url... Then it's ok.

But, well, it doesn't look like it's working after ... :|

Yes, any other questions?

Now back to mine. :p

So after installing A/B+, when you click on subscribe on the page provided above; what is suppose to happen?

How can you tell if A/B+ is installed correctly? It is not listed as a running process when the browser is open. However, it is listed as an installed program in app manager.

Is there anything else I can do?

EDIT: Thanks for the answer to the first question R-R :)

This is what I've been waiting for. The web looks so filthy thru the screen of the N800 at the moment. All those ads

I get no ads there. (Boy, I haven't visited Slashdot in years!)

So Adblock+ is supposed to show up as a component? I've installed and reinstalled and still, nothing.

Umm what repo should I add again to get this?

There's a "ABP" stop sign in the bottom right corner of web browser windows for me now.

Yes. I've found no detectable change in startup time.

Try renaming /home/user/.mozilla/microb/extensions.rdf and see if it loads, greasemonkey had some left over crap in there on mine, but adblock loaded after nuking it.

Good to hear, guess I'll just have to track down the evil..

As general note, I'm doing my best to answer questions, and I apologize for not providing more detailed info, but I'm also taking care of three kids under the age of five right now. Roll your eyes at me if you must, but I'm doing my best.

You may drop 3, and subscribe off the ABP panel - at least for me, all subscriptions made before I opened the panels did not get entered anyways.

I did not have to do #4. I did #2 without thinking about it, as I'm used to Adblock Plus on desktops.

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

A lot of us can't get adblock plus to handle the abp:// links. I have uninstalled greasemonkey and tried deleting the extensions.rdf file and now adblock plus is in the components menu, but still won't handle the links.

NP dude... The eye roll was not impatience because of the limited smilies that are available I guess I used in lui of a  smilie (runs head against wall).

In any event, from other posts it appears that it might conflict with greasemonkey. I'm assuming you did not install this in the past, yes?

iball 2007-12-12 00:02

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

Looks like greasemonkey does something to wipe out adblock plus when it installs.
No longer shows up in the components in MicroB. Sounds like Greasemonkey's not playing "nice".

jhoff80 2007-12-12 00:04

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

Not only greasemonkey, but also the spellchecker seems to conflict with it. After deleting both, and then deleting the extensions.rdf file, and then reinstalling adblock plus, it handles the links correctly. However, I'm not entirely sure its working, even after adding a filter. Actually I don't even see an icon for adblock plus to tap on.

That's correct. This is my first MicroB extension, and it looks as though it's anti-social.

Ahh! to get the adblock red logo to show up, i have to play with the vertical scroll bar a bit... Than it renders. And then i can click it and enable / update the lists.
little buggy but it seems to work after, yé! :)

Same here. Seems to be working.
But of course, I'm running Privoxy as well so like John C. Dvorak gets no spam, I get no ads.

I'm really glad this is out. I much prefer it to privoxy.

This works on the latest 2007HE on the 770 too.
You have to make sure and clear out the greasemonkey stuff first and add the chinook browser extras repo.
Slow, but works

Re: Adblock Plus for MicroB released!

This might be a duplicate post and greatly off-topic but here is another way for those whose adblock-plus won't work.

http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/server...stformat=hosts

Just copy & paste the contents of the link in your /etc/hosts (you must be root to do this) and you have ad-blocking enabled.

Thats quite a good way, but unfortunately this does not affect css / xhtml inline ads. :)

Whenever possible to use, Adblock Plus is the best way to stop ads.

Thanks for that tip ! Initially I thought it was only for Chinook...

I've installed it manually on my (Bora) N800. As for others here it was a bit fiddly to get started (getting the red icon, subscribing etc.) but now that it works it really really rocks ! Thanks to the benefactors who ported this !

Yup.

rm .mozilla/microb/extensions.rdf
@root did the trick and cleared out the monkey grease. After a restart Adblock was now listed as a component... and then, as R-R suggested, I fiddled with the vertical scroll and found the preferences icon...

Thanks. http://www.clicksmilies.com/auswahl/ernaehrung004.gif
