You may also want to try the Dates application from the Pimlico project. I haven't tried it personally, but it looks very promising. |
Re: Calendar application
I can't seem to get Dates to install on my OS2008, as I believe its an OS2007 app and maybe it's not yet been redone.. I've shot off an email to OpenHand(Pimlico)so hopefully we can get an answer or an updated version.
Isn't it odd that the tablet is missing many basic applications, such as a Calendar ? (like for instance any media/music app that automatically does cover art, a media player that shows Visualiztions etc., any sort of keyboard control, like repeat rates etc., and so on) But really why isn't there at least a viewable Calendar either as an application, or better yet one that would be integrated to the desktop via an applet ? (integrated into the OS made by Nokia) |
Re: Calendar application
I always figured that as a device that's supposed to be web centric, Nokia assumed that your calendar was online and viewable on a browser page. I'd like a calendar app too, for times when there's no WiFi around.

Re: Calendar application
I use GPE http://fl0rian.wordpress.com/2007/01...n800-maemo-30/
and Erminig to sync with google calenders. http://david.hautbois.free.fr/joomla...nc=select&id=3 Searching the forums will also turn up a lot of useful info on these apps. |
Re: Calendar application
I've had GPE but find it abit too much for what I really needed, I just want a simple 30 day calender type of thing.
No real need for appt's, contacts etc., as GPE and a few others do that fairly well, as a PIM (though a real integrated PIM would be great for many ppl, not including myself of course, lol) It'd be great if somehow they could incorporate it in the clock applet, whereas you could even have a choice of time with calendar showing, time without etc. |
Re: Calendar application
GPE Calendar is part of the GPE suite
http://www.cobb.uk.net/NokiaIT/#gpe For Os2008 install Set Up Application Manager Catalogue as:- Catalogue name: GPE – Graham Cobb’s Repository Web Address: http://www.cobb.uk.net/apt/ Distribution: chinook Components: user |
Re: Calendar application
When I try to use the Pimlico repository for n800 2007 the log tells me the install tree is not in the format it is expecting. HAs anyone got the pimlico repository to work?

Re: Calendar application
New guy here, but I used to use a program called agendus for palm. It can be found at agendus.com. This is the program that I would love to see for the Nokia. It was the best PIM program I ave ever seen. Just a thought.

I will follow up this post with a search on Erminig. But I thought I'd mention that I tried installing Erminig this afternoon. After finding and installing GPE calender and then downloading Erminig I tried using the ap manager to install it. Ap manager then said I needed gdataclient and pysqlite to install Erminig. So I found and successfully installed gdataclient and then downloaded pysqlite. When I tried to install pysqlite, ap. manager needed Python 2.5 to install it successfully. Well, then I found Python on Maemo.org and found that it wouldn't install because of corrupt files and a server problem. So, Am I doing this right? And is there another way to download the Python 2.5 application I need? Edit: Ok, I just successfully installed Erminig. My problem was that I didn't know what of the Python aps that was showing up in my Application manager ' browse installable applications' I was supposed to install. After some more research on this site I found that I needed Python 2.5 runtime. Using the application manager I then installed that. With that installed I could then install Pysqlite. With Pysqlite istalled then Erminig installed successfully. Well, it just took me all afternoon to get this done. But if I can do it anyone can :) Edit # 2 -- I tried to open and use Erminig. It opened OK for a while and after fiddling with it for a while, it now will not open for me. I'm guessing Erminig is missing something, but I have no idea why it won't open now when it initially did. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Neil |
Re: Calendar application
i would give my left and right testicle for that to be ported ... as long as it would retain ALL the specified functionality

Re: Calendar application
Sorry to hear about your challenges getting it to install. Believe me, I feel your pain. I am windows guy that had spent only a little time with unix. I have spent many hours learning about all the little challenges like repositories (and the ever growing list of them), debs...
Another trick I picked up that may help you figure out why erminig is not loading is to open an X term session and enter "erminig" in there and then tap return. When I do that a bunch of messages fly by and the app loads. If you find an error when doing that it may help you to solve why it is not loading. Once I got all pieces in place I have not had problems with it loading. It does load slowly but it has worked for me. |
