Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update
Interesting. That looks like the service Orb provide?
|
Re: WeBot
(moved this thread)
It looks like its only music and pics. No video support yet. |
Re: WeBot
It's also advertised on the OS2008 web site.
They say it's beta. |
Re: WeBot
I've downloaded and started playing around with it. It's got a customized web interface for the N810 which is nice and for the most part thumbsized but it's lacking some of the features of the full web interface, most notably the ability to browse by artist -> album -> song.
It's a good start IMO. edit: also the software can run on a Mac and Linux ... another plus |

 did someone patented this "beta thing"? we should. No, really, it's annoying, everything now has a beta tag  |
Re: WeBot
Well at least OS2008 came out of beta :P

I hope that you're just streaming movies of your cat's birthday party...

Re: WeBot
it also works on the n800 Tablet. yes, it's similar to orb with the difference being able to access media (video and cat birthday parties coming in the new year) from multiple machines and multiple platforms. meaning you can place a bot linked to music or photos on as many machines as you have access to and stream any of the music anytime you're connected to the internet. works on mac, win and linux. Sharing of custom photo albums (initiated through the pc interface) was pushed live just a week ago. Music sharing, both public and private is being built right this moment.

Re: WeBot
I'm trying to get my songs to pop up there all mp3's but nothing is happening...photos come up fine....when the webot app is running it should be able to find the mp3's since the photos are detected , hmmm anyone having any issues?
|
Re: WeBot
Hmm, my on-screen keyboard keeps popping up whenever I switch tabs. And further more the bot didn't work through my company's firewall even though it's a web app.
Gmail is in beta, this is alpha... |
Re: WeBot
nice!, Ya i found out why it aint detecting, Your music needs to be in your My Music folder in the my documents, there is my default a my music folder if your running windows...
|
Re: WeBot
yes, that is the auto detect default. You can of course manually add music or photo photos directories from where ever you placed them -- remote hard drives, networked drives or just someplace other then where windows or mac does it for you.
sorry nedim, we work on port 8081 i/0 if your company is blocking that port there is not a lot we can do about it. |
Re: WeBot
Hmm, my on-screen keyboard keeps popping up whenever I switch tabs.<<< adobe flex bug. neither nokia or we can do anything about that at present or until adobe fixes the flash/flex bug.
Gmail is in beta, this is alpha... <<<< google has $829 gazillion bucks and hundreds of engineers. We're a 6 person startup and added this interface of our app for Nokia in a matter of weeks. Be fair ;-) |

In any case it's not that important if it works from the office, it should work fine from home since I'm the port master :-) |

If you guys added a support for video with on-the-fly transcoding I think you would have a winner. |

Re: WeBot
This beta looks cool :)
A problem I've noticed using the Flash interface with my N800: the keyboard pops up each time I click an option (eg. music/photo icon on left hand-side). Quite annoying  Anyone here having noticed the same? [OutOfTopic] Could some guide me on how to automatically start WeBot server on startup of my Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) box? TIA! [/OutOfTopic] |
Re: WeBot
thanks, nedim. video is on the ta-doo list right after the social thangs like creating friends and groups of friends and the ability to share playlists and access your pal's tracks for life streaming. we've been building out these features over the holiday break -- here i am working on new years eve.
xyzo: i don't know squat about linux to be honest. Post a question on our support forums and i'll make sure one of our engineers answers you con pronto. the keyboard pop-up is a flash/adobe bug that is being looked at by both our guys and Nokia. |
Re: WeBot
How do you download the App. for WEBot? When i go to the Nokia OS2008 page the link is there for WEBOT. When I click on "Get WEbot for your tablet" it goes to the WEBot tablet page. When I click on "Download it now-Ts free and easy" I go to a logn page. I add my log in credentials then I get another page saying I need to get Adobe Flash...Is there a app I need to download for this?
Thanks |

The app is for your computer(s). You access the webot-site with your tablets browser, login, and then you see the webot controls (if you have flash installed). HTH, Rafael |
Re: WeBot
That's right. You set up your computers to be the servers and the Nokia Tablet as a device for mobile access. We're re-vamping the tablet/site interface right now to make this much more clear for new users, in fact it should be pushed live this afternoon,
WeBot was built originally for remote access to your pc's and mac computers from anyone machine with a web connection. the Tablet release is new for us and we've built it quickly -- the current, till later today, flow is one kink we're ironing out. |
Re: WeBot
So how do I get flash? It has a link to donwload flash. Which one do I pick?
Thanks all |
Re: WeBot
9,0,47,0 is the most current flash plugin.

Re: WeBot
zerojay: I was referring to people streaming media of questionable legality. Not that *cough* I'm affected *cough* because *cough* my 300GB collection *cough* is all public domain *cough* MIDI compositions.

Attached is the screenshot when I tried to login to webot.com website with my N800 (OS2008 which should already have Flash 9). I'm not sure what was wrong. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/1/0...95106970_o.png |
Re: WeBot
Interesting..after the last upgrade---my java componets were unchecked in the browser.
In the Browser: Tools-components- (select both plug ins)... Works now..cool |
Re: WeBot
strange... i realized that too... when I can't even load the webot.com homepage... so I checked those plugins, I can get the login panel but after that... i can't do nothing... because it says i don't have latest Flash player.

Re: WeBot

Re: WeBot
uggggggggg..more issues..not a user friendly device..only friendly to us tinkerers.
|
Re: WeBot
Interesting. I just installed Webot and have the following observations to share:
1. Interface is user-friendly. Very intuitive and it found BOTH my computers once I logged in. Flash interface took awhile to load over WiFi, so I dread to think how long this might take over 3G/HSDPA 2. The buffering takes so long that I wonder if it is buffering/streaming or if it is downloading the track and then playing it off a cache somewhere. 3. For some reason, I could not get it to play Nelly Furtado's All Good Things (Come To An End), but it kept skipping two tracks down to Alice Cooper's Poison instead. Needs more tinkering about to find out what is causing this strange behaviour. 4. A song takes approximately 4 to 5 minutes to 'buffer', and I wonder if it will automatically 'buffer' the next song while the current one is playing, or if it will just do it between tracks (which means another 4 to 5 minutes before the next song starts) 5. Search works well Not bad for a beta, though ;) |
