m4a support?

I know there is no m4a support out of the box, but is there away to enable that codec for use in all software? if not, is there a (well-developed) program with m4a support? i want to copy my itunes library to my new 16gb patriot sdhc, and about half my library is m4a.

Re: m4a support?

I don't agree, my N800 with both OS07 and OS08 can play my m4a's in the base media player as well as Canola.

Re: m4a support?

Are your .m4a files encrypted (DRM)? If so, there is no way to play them. You need to remove the DRM first.

Thesandlord 2009-09-26 21:28

Re: m4a support?

Did you buy your music on iTunes? If you did, it probably has DRM (unless you bought it recently). You have to remove the DRM or get an iPod.

Re: m4a support?

i dont use ITUNES, and what is DRM? how I know my files ara DRM?

albertccja 2009-09-26 22:25

Re: m4a support?

no they aren't DRM... I just can play the files with the standar program that comes with the tablet but i dont like it..

hordeman 2009-09-27 01:43

Re: m4a support?

I have some Recoil .m4a songs that I bought via iTunes, but they were the DRM-less versions. Play fine on Canola2. So, probably a DRM issue.

Re: m4a support?

Re: m4a support?

its exactly the same problemĦĦĦ i did a format to my nokia and now i cant play music files....

Thesandlord 2009-09-27 05:42

Re: m4a support?

Wait, so the default program CAN play the music? I think I know your problem. Canola uses mplayer (i THINK) as its music player, while the built in player uses gstreamer. Maybe this is your problem. Try to update mplayer. Both should play AAC audio out of the box.

Someone with more information please chime in.

Re: m4a support?

yeah i can play music with the default program but witn canola i cant :s im going to try it....

Matan 2009-09-27 08:47

Re: m4a support?

Try playing it with mplayer from the command line, and see what is the problem.

albertccja 2009-09-27 16:18

Re: m4a support?

yes, i can play them with mplayer... so whats the problem with canola?

pelago 2009-09-27 20:00

Re: m4a support?

Does Canola give an error message, or is the problem that the .m4a files don't even show up in Canola?

albertccja 2009-09-27 20:34

Re: m4a support?

the problem is that canola doesnt show .m4a filesĦĦĦ :S

Thesandlord 2009-09-27 20:41

Re: m4a support?

lol dude, you should have told us this in the start! Your problem is that canola is not scanning your memory cards properly. Look up "lightmediascanner" and "canola aac" and stuff like that. Does your other music show up?

albertccja 2009-09-27 21:03

Re: m4a support?

yes, I put some mp3 files and canola could find them, what you mean with "lightmediascanner" and "canola aac"? where i download that?

Thesandlord 2009-09-27 21:22

Re: m4a support?

Sorry for not being clear. I mean to search for those things. I think your lightmediascanner, which scans your memory cards for music, is not picking up the m4a files. Look at the Canola threads and stuff for more information.

albertccja 2009-09-28 02:51

Re: m4a support?

lightmediascaner? what is that? where i get it?

albertccja 2009-09-28 03:05

Re: m4a support?

I download Ogg Support 0.7 from canola page, is that lightmediascaner?

albertccja 2009-09-28 03:22

Re: m4a support?

I downloaed YOUAMP-pLAYER and i cant play .m4a files either :S i dont know what to do...

pelago 2009-09-28 10:10

Re: m4a support?

For what it's worth, I have .mp2 (not .mp3) audio files that play fine in the Nokia media player (and mplayer), but don't even show up in Canola, so I am interested in hearing how to let Canola see these files. I imagine the answer to this will be similar to the answer to how to get Canola to see .m4a files.

Names exist because they describe things.
"I downloaded Ubuntu Linux from some webpage, is that Microsoft Windows?" is basically the same questions as yours.

Re: m4a support?

isn't this problem with canola media searcher? that part of the software hangs when searching m4a files i think.

e: similar problem is in UKMP. no m4a files are indexed.

so steps to reproduce:

1. copy m4a - file to memory card (or somewhere else)
2. make canola update its media library
3. see that your m4a song isn't in the list

it didnt work ossipena... :(:(:(:(

Re: m4a support?

For some reason, M4A's aren't picked up by Canola. Yet, if I rename the M4A to an MP3 it does (and plays too!). Any ideas?
