PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
Yo!
A while ago, I had come across a version of the Gambatte Game Boy and Game Boy Color emulator. I loved it. It ran sooo well on my 770 that I was actually able to use it to play games. (Thank you dblank! Original post is here if you wish to say Thanks.) So, I decided to make a super-simple frontend and to package it for everyone to enjoy. (Package. by. hand. directory. by. directory. file. by. file. damnedable. scratchbox!^%&@(@) ^^'' Ok, so, here, this is the package PyBoy which contains Gambatte and my little frontend, all of my code is GPL'd: http://itablet.garage.maemo.org/pyboy_0.1-1.deb http://itablet.garage.maemo.org/screenshot00.png |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend

Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
thanx Aisu!....wondering which ROMS work well with this??...are they playable?
Thanx! |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
cool dude. Thanks for that. I'm going to try and adapt this to the XO laptop.

Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
No problem! There is a bug, though... ROMs with special chars in the name won't load... So please rename them to alpha numerics until I get a fix, sorry :(
All gameboy and color roms will run fine  |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
Perhaps I'm doing something completely ******ed, but I can't seem to use this.
I took the advice of removing "special characters", removed any dashes, spaces, etc (the file is just a single word, thats it, I also tried just making it a number). I've tried this with both .gb and .gbc. I select the game, select the size (another recommendation you made elsewhere for it to work), and then click start, but to no avail, it just won't start. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help :) Edit: I got it past the clicking "start" stage, but what now happens is i just run into a black screen with a white box, and it stays there. Any ideas? |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
Are you running a gb advanced rom? Gambatte only handle up to gb color.. Other than that, the only thing I could do is take a look at the rom (maybe it's corrupted?).

Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
Aisu,
I finally got it work (except at 4x screen size, but thats not a huge deal). I downloaded the version in this thread, uninstalled the other version I had (perhaps they were the same, I didn't bother to check, I figure they were), and installed this one to get it to work. So I suppose a simple reinstall did the trick. Now just a question on the program itself: Does sound work like its supposed to? Because the sound on mine does, to an extent, but it keeps repeating the same old noise previously played ontop of new noises. Perhaps its a problem with the ROM, but they seem to all do this. Thanks for your time by the way |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
That's a question for the Gambatte developers or maintainers... I just made the front end and packaged it ^^'''

Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
Hah alright, thanks anyways, sound isn't tottaly important anyways. I'll survive for now :)

Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
hey aisu!! u rock!!!! this is great!!!!! so is pyboy the most operational emulator out rigght now?? in terms of playability and graphics/sound????
thanx again!!!!! |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
Well, it's Gambatte that is the backend and running the game, PyBoy is just Gambatte and my front end packaged together (insanely painful to package). But, yes, it's the best Game Boy emu available for the tablets to date :D

There really aren't any good GBA solutions at the moment. |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
I've been mucking about with this for my first Maemo project. I've yet to get the packaging figured out, but here are the files in case anyone wants to do it by hand. So far I have added some touchscreen buttons, the bottom half of the screen is A and the top half is B. It now runs fullscreen, so it can use Xsp pixel doubling for the 2x mode which seems to be a bit faster. The + and - buttons now control the volume. In the future I'll make all this stuff optional. But for the moment this is a heap more playable IMHO. Here is the source and binaries, you should be able to just dumb the binaries in /usr/bin and use pyboy as before.
http://users.tpg.com.au/webtrax2/pyboy_0.1-2.tar.gz http://users.tpg.com.au/webtrax2/gam...1-maemo.tar.gz Oh yeah and another thing, if using the 2x mode, make sure to exit using the return button, anything else will dump you to a mangled desktop due to the pixel doubling. I'm not sure what I can do about that. |
Re: PyBoy: Gambatte and GUI Frontend
does this work in os2008? I have it installed but can't get it to run
