Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
Hey ppl. I was wondering if there was some sort of application to get stock updates on either the homescreen as a widget sort of thing or even as a seperate application so that i wouldnt have to log onto websites for it all the time.
Thanks alot! |

Just in case, I have a portfolio with yahoo finance and get delayed, streaming quotes merely by surfing into the web page of my portfolio.

Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
MysticKiller, you could put one of these gadgets on your iGoogle page:
http://google.com/ig/directory?q=stock For example there is one called: Google Finance Portfolios |

Congratulations on avoiding the "this has already been covered in another post" or "this belongs over in this thread" rants.
I agree that this is a program that ought to exist and I would like it, too. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard. I wish I had the aptitude to program. |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
You can plug in the RSS for a Quote into the RSS feed reader. That's what I did at the end , for lack of a graceful solution (and no, Google Finance widget on iGoogle page on Tablet is not a stock ticker solution).
Try googling for Stock quotes in RSS format and there are quite a few. |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
FWIW I'm an old Market Data dinosaur.
All Web based quotes from US Exchanges will be delayed 15+ minutes to meet the exchange distribution rules - the one remaining exception is BATS Trading which also provides credible orderbook data: http://www.batstrading.com Also, descriptions of domestic US stocks is freely available online if you wanted to use it for selecting stocks to display: Nasdaq: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/SymDir/nasdaq.txt NYSE/AMEX: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/dynamic/SymDir/cqsSym.txt |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
I'm looking at Bats and find it very interesting. Thanks for the tip. I am wondering...
Can you get it to show just the symbols you are tracking and do you have to be a registered user to do so? If you do, is there a registration fee? Also, do the quotes update live (without a refresh?) Thanks! |

Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
Stock plug-in is not working on my 800 with OS2008. It runs as an applet. I get a blank white window on my desktop and a confirmation window in spanish. I tried entering a stock symbol in the confirmation window and the window went away, but I still only have a white blank window on the desktop.

I guess for those for whom its not working - maybe it depends on Python, which I had installed already. Plugged in 3 stock symbols and it gets the quotes for all three. Have to try on a market open day to see how often it refreshes. |

To get the settings again you have to long-click (nearly 4-5 seconds) on the window which gives a menu - Titulos (Settings window), Columnas (edit columns to show) and 'Claude' (close the applet). P.s. - all my translations are from inference - I don't know the language also :) |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
i tried launching the streaming real time quote applets
from 2 stockbrokers from the os2008/n800 web browser and they fail to load... i assume all of the free solutions listed in this thread are delayed quotes... i want to get free streaming real time quotes that come from a broker... real time quotes that are not from a broker are usually a premium service.... any solutions for broker provided streaming real time quotes? |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
I agree with shaky4... There should already be an applet that shows stock tickers... We have weather applet, stock tick should be a doable project. Again, we non-programmers/developers always ask, but there is little we could do since we don't know how to program.

OmWeather is your solution for Weather widget. It works on OS2008 on N810 flawlessly with transparent backgrounds also. Pretty nice app.

Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
Is this just a stock ticker or does it also offer charting? I saw what apple did on the iphone and it would be great to also have this sort of functionality in maemo?

I dont think they offer any streaming internet options. However most of the quotes and orderbooks on their web site update in near real-time (delayed a sec or two rather than 20mins) without requiring a browser refresh. Bear in mind that these are BATS quotes rather than quotes from the listing Exchange (SIP). Scraping and redistrbuting/redisplaying market data from websites is usually an infringement of the sites usage policy (as it usually conflicts with the SIP restrictions that they need to comply with), but BATS has clear ownership of their quotes so it mght be more doable. |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
the stock quote applet works for me...i will try it when the
market opens too...to see if it streams... anyone find any broker streaming real time quote applications that run on the n800 os2008 browser? the |
Re: Stock ticker for N800/OS2008?
I installed Python after I installed the stock ticker. I went back and checked it and it works now. If you hold your pen on it a very limited number of settings come up. Basically, add or delete symbols and what data to include. No transparency. Everything for me is in Spanish, which is a little difficult as I don't know Spanish.
But, it does seem to update! Not a very elegant app at this point, but it works. |
