Local Flash playback: we now have unlimited games! :)
Perhaps some people already know this, but I thought I would start a thread about it. It seems if you save flash-based files (i.e. games in .swf files) you can play them offline on your IT's. I've already tried several and they work well. The larger flash games (5-8mb+) are extremely slow, but most of them aren't that large.
If you are using Mozilla Firefox, here's how to save the .swf flash files: Once you are on the page of the flash animation, click on "Tools", then "Page Info"; once there, click on the "Media" tab and find the embedded flash file (usually in .swf format) and click on "Save as" and save it on a memory card or on your HD, and then copy it over to a memory card and it will open in the browser. As for the flash games, I have been using 2flashgames.com, but there are quite a few others as well. Try some games and let me know what you think! |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
It seems the all of the smaller flash files I have tried run perfectly. The larger they get, the slower they get. Remember, we only have 400mhz to work with.

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
I spent a few hours cruising awful, ad-laden flash sites, looking for n800 friendly games. Most of the bells-and-whistles games didn't fare so well. Definitely some nice stuff out there though.
Maybe we could use this thread to get a list going (and perhaps, eventually, a simple database page)? Good idea to make a collection of usable Flash games! Some of them are even hardwired to a certain URL and refuse to run if saved.

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Is there a way to disable the flash player options from popping up when holding the stylus on the screen for some of these games?
Thanks. :) |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
maybe someone should do what I did and actually package a flash package for the NIT. And do whats been done on the playstation for long time.
anyone with some web designing know how, should be able to get it done. http://www.pspbrew.com/?page=flashpack http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/psp-flash-homebrew.shtml <--scroll down. The psp directory structure is too different from the NITs so you cannot run the flash packs thats done for the psp on the NIT. but with some minor hacking, you can change a couple of lines and have it working easy. take a look at this package. and modify it with the games and apps you want to use. http://www.divshare.com/download/1503325-ae5 |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
on my N800 with OS2008, I can download the games, but they don't play. I open them in in browser, but there's no start button or such. if enable the net, then tthe swf file launces by downloading stuff frrom the new. Try draw-play, for example. works when it can dl, not from swf

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Well, for anyone that has the courage, I found this Rapidshare link online today. It could save you from all of the horrible, searing, pop up from hell sites that most flash games are found at.
http://rapidshare.com/files/52575570...ames.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/52574093...ames.part2.rar If someone here is brave enough to check this out, could you post a little feedback on how well you found this to be? Thanks. |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
I downloaded it. I'll try the games out for a couple of days and post again.

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Here is a web page with 120 hand-picked swf files that can be downloaded directly:

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
For those still interested, this site (jayisgames.com) has tons of flash games, with respectives ratings and reviews. There are also many browser games. It's worth the visit!
And the Firefox add-on UnPlug is very straight in getting embedded flash objects. |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Many many thanks to all who contributed to this thread.
I'm having so much fun on my downtime at night. Dan |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Okay, so there are some flash files I would love to download, I'm just not all too sure if it's even possible.
It's called PhysioEx and it's a virtual laboratory. It's really cool! It works perfectly on my N800 but I have to be online and logged in for it to load up. Here's one computer screen shot of it. http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/5691/screendv8.png Unfortunately, to access this site requires a hefty subscription price, I think I paid about $185.00 for a one year service to use this site. If you look at the screenshot, it pulls up a separate window so I can't see where it's loading the flash file from. I already asked this on the newbie forum, but I was asking for the whole site to be ripped so I could use it offline. Unfortunately I was told since it uses javascript links that couldn't be done. If there's anyone that thinks they could find a way to just get these flash files, please write me a private message so I can lend you my username and password to get into this site. Thanks a bunch guys. :) |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Here you can see screenshot, size, description and instructions (keys or mouse use). I think you can easily choose.
In spanish, sorry. http://www.publijuegos.com/flash/Habilidad-online.htm |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Another poster just pointed out that Dicewars works well this way too-- I just saved the swf to my N810 and it runs great!
This is SO FREAKING SWEET! My kids will go nuts, too. :D |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
there are many fun but simple flash games on the BBC website for kids:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/games/?category=allgames it's best to find the URL using your desktop; install adblock extension to firefox, then click the "block" tab at the edge of the game, take a note of the URL of the .swf, cancel the block, and then you can open that URL on the tablet in the web browser - I emailed my mobile address with the link, tapped on it in the email message and the browser opened and loaded the game! I found that I needed to use full screen and a level of zoom to make it work properly. The more complex games got very slow :( |

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Hello, I am a basic user. Have an n800 was going to replace
my palm zodiac but still have that. I believe this is my second post here. I will try to follow the planed layout for flash sites. To get to the point. Here are a few good sites that I have found with many great games, most work at good speeds and use mouse input. http://www.freshnewgames.com/ Nice site, lots of games fit the screen just right, mouse input on most games. http://www.onlineflashgames.org/ another good site that fits the screen well, with mouse input on most games. http://www.smashingames.com/ have not tested many games here, some work good and other don't mixed bag, but worth a look. |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
If you're a game show junkie, GSN.com is the way to go.
Here are some that are worth noting: Chain Reaction That's the Question Camouflage Word Mojo Ultimate Word Challenge Grand Slam Daily Word Search Now there's a link that says SHARE and from there you can choose to EMBED THE GAME. I'm not too good with knowing what to do with the command it gives such as this: <embed src="http://www.gsn.com/minigames/swfs/gsn_wrapper.swf?gameID=30" scale="noscale" salign="lt" width="600" height="450" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/> Could someone that knows something perhaps make a few links to these so we don't have to rifle through the Game Show Network site and be shoveled with advertisements from hell just to play them? I think I figured out how to do just one, but it doesn't have the scale feature like the code noted above. Here it is: Chain Reaction http://www.gsn.com/minigames/swfs/chainreaction.swf I think for most of these that you need to be online, I don't think they work too well offline. Oh and here's another one I found even though it plays just a little chunky: Solingo http://www.webcraftscreations.com/po...lips/lingo.swf I like these so much that I probably will make a special, bottom screen Xkbd keyboard to play them. Well, if any of you have a brain and feeling a little generous, please post a response. Thanks. |

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
:DThere is a duplicate thread on this, see the "frogger" post in software/gaming. As an old flash extractor pro, I've learned that the "page info" technique described by bartsimpson is the best place to start but it does not always work. You can see many media elements like the swf player, header etc. but often not the game (or video file) itself. I just posted a long but easy to follow method to the "frogger" thread (before coming across this thread) that will let you use Firefox to extract any swf file (or any flv video file for that matter). I've rarely encountered a file I couldn't retrieve using this method. The thread is at:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...hlight=frogger Maybe some nice administrator can tie these threads together, this stuff merits a sticky in Games! |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
I just don t get why castle war http://www.gamesforwork.com/games/pl...lash_Game.html is so damn slow in my n800, it's a small game...
Can anyone try it? |
powder game?
I don't know if you have played the powder game on the dan ball website, but would it be possible to hack it up and get it on an IT? that would be really cool. I just want to be able to get my powder game fix on the go! problem is that it is java.

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Hey, has anyone heard about Adobe Air for Linux? It allows Flash and JavaScript to seemlessly integrate with the desktop of Linux, MacOS and Windows. But, now that an alpha version has hit Linux what it if made it to the NIT's?
http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/20...-releases.html It would certainly open the door for more applications to run on the NIT. :D |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
This thread was a really good idea about what flash games are out there that works well, downloaded, on the NIT.
Gonna try out some of them tonight. |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)

Has anybody tried either of these two?

Or download the Firefox-addon downloadhelper and add .swf to the list of detectable extensions. -- !!!!!!!!! Maybe we could provide a wiki-store for flash-games, optimized for our ITs? !!!!!!! So big text-size, finger-friendly,... With an install buttom, the users would be able to run a skript via app-manager, which downloads the flashgame-file from the source-website (so that we don't need much online-storage) in a userdefined directory and adds an icon in the app-menu. The flashfile, same as the store, would be launched in a browser without toolbars - maybe with a startpage. This would also be possible for other Linux-devices/distributions (such as Mer) - and we could also add the store to maemo downloads (like iPhone-sites). Maybe we can also provide "useful" browser-apps. But I'm not sure if this is legally possible! I would help to create that! xD |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
HAR! http://www.digyourowngrave.com/ragdo...on-level-pack/
If you want to grab .swfs fast using firefox, just install flashblock, and you can save them from the little tab it gives you. Also if you want to download multiple files quickly from a single page, install the FF plugins DownThemAll and FlashGot. they work great together. I got every swf from that link that had about 100 in about half a dozen mouse clicks. Works great for any other file type too, you just select the type you want from check boxes. |

That menu makes chopper from here rather comical.
BUT I noticed that by switching games to "Low Quality" using that menu makes them run much faster! It pulls some games back into the "playable" zone. |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Nice. Thanks for the tip, buurmas. Its so easy to overlook simple things like that.

Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
Flashgames247.com has a bunch of games (there's even download links for some at http://flashgames247.com/pages/freegames.html).
Unfortunately, the BikeMania saga is to slow to play on the N180. Bummer, I love those. One that I was hoping worked is this one: http://adamatomic.com/canabalt/. Oh well, maybe it's for the best, it's too addictive. |
Re: We now have an unlimited number of games! :)
I'm also realizing that the DPad is not suitable for rapid-fire movement. I wonder if the N900's arrow keys will be better? I'm also realizing the importance of games having customizable controls. The N810 keyboard is not laid out like a regular keyboard. :-(
