Nokia N810 Battery Life
Need help. My battery is only lasting for 12 hours in standby with wireless turned off. Is this normal? Any suggestions? I notice on the spec sheet it states 5-10 days in standby. This seems like a dream based on my current issue.

Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
I get > 5 days with wireless and bluetooth on.
One of your applications may be spinning the CPU. If you don't see anything suspicious with 'top', I recommend reflashing the device to its original state. If you still get only 12 hours, contact Nokia for repairs. |

Now testing with WiFi enabled... If you're only getting 12 hours you either have a defective battery, or you have installed an application which is not allowing the CPU to go to sleep - what apps have you installed on your device? Tip: Don't leave the browser open if Javascript is active on a web page - the browser can chew through 40-50% CPU even when the browser is "minimised" as the Javascript runs constantly. Always close the browser, or return to a homepage which doesn't have active javascript, when you are finished browsing. |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
Wow 12 days!
I am not impressed by the battery (even if it IS impressive), but I am impressed by you! By the fact that YOU lasted 12 days and 2 hours without the tablet :) |

Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
eheh I was going to bet you had another one.. but I thought about an N800, not a 770.. that's slow.. cool, but slow.

Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
Thanks for the info. I have multiple programs installed. Camera, Recorder, Media Streamer, Doom, Xgalga, video center, Vagalume and Kagu media player. Could one of these be running in the background even when application is closed? Note: I also have uninstalled canola and Umpc in the past week after I tried them out.

What about using one of the tools mentioned in this thread?

Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
I don't know much about this kind of thing, so I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me out!
I have a Nokia N810 and have have it for about a year and a half. It's always been a little dodgy on the battery life, but lately it's been a lot worse! I take it off charge at 9am, turn it onto offline mode, close all applications, and don't use it the whole day, but by 7pm, it's dead... No battery power at all! And I haven't even used it!! If I do use it, I can get about an hour out of it before it dies, if I try with the wireless it lasts about 30 minutes... I just can't use it like this! I miss my little Nokia lasting the whole day long!! I've tried a whole bunch of things to fix it... First off I figured it would be the battery, so a forked out and bought a new one. It increase the power by only a handful of precious minutes. After that didn't work, I reflashed it, and now have nothing installed on it besides what it came with, and it still doesn't last any longer. On top of that, for some strange spooky reason, the clock mysteriously gains 2 hours every day  The other night I was working hard (with it plugged it obviously) thinking it was 11pm... Turned out it was 1am! No wonder I was so sleepy! But I'm getting a little off topic! If anyone has any ideas about what could be causing this problem, then please let me know!! I'm getting a little sick of following it round the house with the power adaptor, just in case! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :D Thanks in advance!! |

There are cheap ones available from third party vendors, but they are often defective or of lower capacity. I recommend paying for a Nokia battery. |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
(The Stupid Little Genius issue seems to be developing over this thread).
BTW, is a 2.5 day battery life with PDA-like usage* common (should read: good enough)? I'm trying to learn gnuplot; already made some nice battery charge plots with data read from HAL. I'm impressed how the NIT manages to keep energy consumption to a minimum while idle (voltage stays flat for a whole night!), but I think charge drops way too much as soon as I start fiddling with it. *(PDA-like = usually 5-10 minutes every hour, wifi always on) |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
In case you didn't figure it out, the values reported aren't updated when device is idle, that's why your graph is flat.
kcbatt can get the raw battery voltage from retu, you can see it sloping when idle too.. |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
The battery on mine started to suck lately with wifi, too.
I generally keep open on it all day an IM window, Skype, and Mauku ( Twitter program). Could any of those be causing the problem? I also recently added a "countdown". |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
If Mauku can't connect or has some oddity it will drain the battery. Rare but it happens.
I know you're using SKYPE but I have had Gizmo kill the battery in short order. Remember anything that polls the network will drain the battery some. I don't know which IM program you're using but I've found that the built in has less of an impact on the battery than pidgin. Lastly, I don't know if you are using the built in mail client but if so, if it screws up, your battery is toast. I'm running an 800 with a 2+ year old battery and I can still go all day so long as I don't hit a flash website or have the mail app go nuts. |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
After about a year, I had to replace my n810 battery. Bought a mugen one, because they are cheaper and higher capacity than a OEM battery.
|
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
I've always had pretty good battery life myself on a tablet about two years old. Light usage gets me a week or so, moderate about 4 days and heavy, maybe two days. Of course it all depends on you definitions of light, moderate and heavy. (1hr, 2hr, 4hr a day for me).
|
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
I get 10min of heavy use. I am thinking about getting the mungen battery. Heavy use in my opinion is googl tlk and using the browser. Any type of voip program on my n810 will kill the battery in no time flat. I would like to know is there something OS or APP related killing the battery or is it just a short life battery. I have had the oem battery that comes with the n810 since its realease or about two years. I have never had a cell phone battery do this so why are the batteries in the n810 acting this way.

I would like to run a battery test using battery-status. Is there any way to keep the display from going to sleep so I can run a test of continuous use?

If it has just started acting this way after two years, it sounds like the battery needs replacing. |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
Yeah, I've had my one tablet for over a year and I'm still on the original battery. I've got a spare, but it hasn't even been dragged out of the package yet. :) Worse comes to worse, I may consider using it on my next trip and use my spare NIT as a battery charger. That way I can carry the primary NIT, plus two spare batteries. :)

Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
I think I'm having a battery issue here but, just want to make sure. I have not use my N810 for about a year or so. Now it turns off soon after I connect to wifi. Even with the power adapter plug-in, it turns off and reboot. So is it the battery or something else? And its acting a bit slow like as if it ran out of memory or something.
|
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
When I had a bad battery I couldn't even get it to boot. So perhaps your first move should be a new battery. Be sure to charge it a while before trying to boot.

Otherwise, try installing syslog (see here) and see what /var/log/syslog.old says after a reboot. |
Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
Unplugged it and it rebooted once. I connect to wifi again and turns off without rebooting. try to power up a third and fourth time get past the boot screen to the desktop screen but any effort to open an application freezes and turns it back off. Though every time I power it up the battery app reads full.

Re: Nokia N810 Battery Life
OK. I think I get it. Its definitely the battery. I think the reboot is cause by the WiFi draining the already weak charge battery too quick for the ac power to recharge it fast enough to keep the device on, and the device does not turn on without the battery. So It's not actually rebooting. The device actually turns off while the ac power turns it back on, as it always do, to charge it. I'll be buying a new battery, soon.
