Should I get a screen protector?

Hi :)

I love my N810. Just started using FBreader and playing puzzle bobble on it..YAY. I also love scribbling down notes on it during lectures (maybe doodling more then note taking :P.... ^.^).

Should I buy a screen protector for my N810 or will the screen be fine with me poking at it.....because I think I see the screen has 2 or maybe 4 scratchers already :(

Of course, I'd recommend a screen protector. I like the Vikuiti ARMR200 material. It has anti-reflective coating. (Which unfortunately wears off a bit with time.) You can also buy the ones for the 770 or N800. May be cheaper and you just need to cut off 2 mm or so from the left or right edge.

Re: Should I get a screen protector?

I've had my 770 for over 2 years now with no need for a screen protector. I have one 1cm scuff where the protective cover bent and touched the screen when sliding it off (oh the irony!) but from normal use the screen is fine. It all depends on how heavy you want to use the tablet. If it's daily and doing a lot of onscreen keyboard work, for sure.

Long story short(er), it couldn't hurt. Worse it could do is protect your screen. :) There are a lot of threads on here as to which is the best, check those for recommendations.

I would definately recommend a screen protector for the n800. I have read posts where people have ruined their n800 within a couple weeks of use. I have cheep one that I picked up from Walmart and after about 2 weeks the screen protector has scratches all over it, can only image what that would do to the actual n800 screen.

BTW, does anybody know where is the skin of the 2008Os come from? I bet it is from the air bubbles upon applying screen protector. I got 2 air bubbles on my N810 and 5 air bubbles on my N800....need more practice.

It depends ... do you have a pocket protector?

I enjoy my BoxWave anti-glare coating - it makes using the onscreen keyboard much easier, and I feel good using the thumb keyboard - no/few fingerprints and easy to clean. I feel better being tactile (touching with fingers) with my tablet with the protector on. The BoxWave ones are the super thick washable ones, and yes, they are very thick but I feel improve the responsiveness of the touch screen.

Don't ditch your 770 case. That was an n800 or n810 comment, i'm sure.

Get a screen protector. Find a clean room (dust free) and install it.

Re: Should I get a screen protector?

I will be a dissenter. I hated my screen protector. I could never get it to go on without blemishes and worse, it created phantom screen taps that drove me and my N800 crazy. I stopped using it and the device is much more reliable and easier to read. I haven't scratched my screen yet.

YMMV.

I second the BoxWave brand. Works great and much, much better than the cheapo generic ones that require trimming.

Has anyone used the "invisible shield" screen protector for the N800?

They claim it will never scratch and they back it up with a lifetime warranty.

www.invisibleshield.com

I'm just curious if anyone has tried this and if it's all that it's cracked up to be

Re: Should I get a screen protector?

It can scratch (though probably due to me applying it incorrectly). I haven't tried the lifetime warranty though it works by returning the old screen protector.

Apparantly there's an issue with removing the adhesive after a few months though (another user reported it).

Yeah, I'm using the Invisible Shield brand, I've used it for other portable devices like my iPod and my T-mobile Dash. It does a great job protecting the screens of all devices, and it's relatively easy to apply without getting a bunch of bubbles (which was a concern of mine for a big screen like the n800).

My only issue is that the plastic is thick and when using the stylus, it's a bit mushy/sticky compared to the non-protected screen. It's not quite as smooth. It's not really an issue when just clicking on the screen with the stylus, but it feels a little unnatural when dragging the stylus around the screen. It's hard to describe and I'm not sure if other brands of screen protectors would feel the same.

It's a trade-off, as I'm sure the screen would get totally scratched up over time without the protector, which for me, is rather heart-breaking because the screen is so nice on the n800.

Overall, I'm happy with it, and I strongly advocate everyone to slap some sort of screen protector on their tablets.

Re: Should I get a screen protector?

Buy a good screen protector made specifically for the purpose of using with scribbler , that might cost a little more then normal protectors but is worth the money .

Comepletely agree.

I went without any protector until I got my first scratch. Residue on the screen + stylus = scratch.

The boxwave ones do wash well. They greatly improve readability in direct sunlight, and improve touchscreen response.

I would not recommend you BUY a screen protector. Rather as I've posted elsewhere:
Quote:

I think there was another thread on this - do a search.
My solution I found there for my 810 is:
Obtain a sheet of overlay transparency film such as is used for view-graphs. Cut a piece slightly oversize and slip it under the bezel.
Cost - almost nil
Time to obtain - minimal

The second day I was showing my 810 around at work one guy played with the screen and it looked like he had just oiled his car, and my 810. The next day the protector was on.

That was back in November, I'm now on my third one. And I don't regret the minute or so it takes me to cut and install.
