eCoach
I just finished my short evening jogging with Sports Tracker software installed on my S60 series phone. It just came into my mind that the internet tablet, N8X0 series would sooo be *the* platform for sports Tracker, too... any information whether there are such projects going on?

Re: Sports Tracker?
such a thing would be nice to see on our tablets.

Re: Sports Tracker?
you have my vote. it would go well with N810

Re: Sports Tracker?
You can try gpstracer :
http://david.hautbois.free.fr/joomla...fileinfo&id=23 It records waypoints and generate a KML file for Google maps : http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...2FLes_ulis.kml Documentation, actually only in french : http://david.hautbois.free.fr/joomla...ask=view&id=98 I'm writing a php script to display the uploaded kml files in a rss feed : http://david.hautbois.free.fr/temp/kml_rss.php I know there are somes bugs : this is my first application with C programming language. Re: Sports Tracker?
This is interesting. I would prefer a 'record trip' feature in maemo mapper, but this is nice to share trip info with others.
|
Re: Sports Tracker?
Sounds great even though I thought from the title that this would be a desktop ticker for sports scores.
Something like this would make me take my N810 everywhere--a good thing and a bad thing. |
Re: Sports Tracker?
The reason why Sports Tracker was never planned for the iT was because most users are unlikely to tote the iT around on a run/cycle due to its weight and bulk, whereas a mobile phone is usually carried for emergency purposes.
But yes, it would be possible, much in the same way that the iT would make an excellent datalogging tool for motorsport performance analytics (see http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?p=142706) Again, this is where Nokia acts consistently with their positioning of the iT being a companion device to a mobile phone :) |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Hey TahitiBob, This is what I have been looking for. Unfortunately it won't install because it needs libglade. I have been searching for an hour but it appears there is no libglade available for OS2008. Has anyone been able to install this an try it out?
cheers |
Re: Sports Tracker?
try to switch the applications manager to red pill mode.
It should appear... Next version will provide a RSS feed like this : http://david.hautbois.free.fr/temp/kml_rss.php |

The live broadcast would need a mobile phone, and so three devices along (only exception being the N810 owners, of course). But they would go in the cycling jersey's pockets, too. One example of my latest trips here. |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Petentic, I am to understand that you have sportstracker working on your n800? If so how? I like the mount too, good work!
Unfortunately I can't get gpstracer going and I really want to find a solution before the spring biking starts... |

The Sports Tracker client software is available for Symbian S60 phones only and I was just hoping if it was developed for N8X0, too! It would be such a great application, especially for cycling, fully utilizing the big screen that N8X0 offers. |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Just to let you know, I'm doing a sports-tracker like program for IT as my thesis work. I've registered a project on maemo garage. There aren't any files yet, as the whole project is in such an early phase.
As it will be my thesis work, it won't bee to much of a community based project at first. I'll be able to get bug reports and feature suggestions, though, but not software patches (oh, it would be so much easier the other way around :-P) After the thesis is done, of course also this will change. But anyhow, keep tuned, things will progress during the spring. It's good to know that there is demand for the software, helps to keep me inspired :-) |

I would like to see support for FRWDs sport trackers http://www.frwd.fi/ in this software. There are Symbian application for bluetooth model of the FRWD-device but I would like to see map and real time heart rate + EPOC while using my Internet tablet. It could be very hard to make it working properly because they haven't released any documentation of the connection between Symbian software and FRWD-unit. At least it's bluetooth connection but it might need some bluetooth analysers to learn all things needed to make this working. |

I'm actively involved in motorsports and will be able to provide the required testing, feedback and support. Do drop me a PM if you're keen to collaborate on this one |
Re: Sports Tracker?
I don't know if you already checked the description on the garage page, but the software will support the heart rate monitor from alive technologies, as it uses a bluetooth connection, and I have all the necessary documentation for it.
At a quick glance, I was unable to find any such information about the frwd product (seems to me that it might collet the data to some memory card or something like that). Anyhow, a plug-in architecture is in consideration for the program, so that one could use custom data sources. This is not yet thoroughly thought, however, so I don't yet know what kind of data will be implemented. Probably something like receiving events with time stamps, that could have some sort of data type and description added (for example, you could then add your own heart rate monitor, or a monitor of a completely different kind, like a temperature sensor or what ever). BTW, I would prefer to have the feature requests & bug reports into the garage project, so that they'll stay neatly in one place. Unfortunately one needs to have an account to post new feature requests or bug reports, but the registration is simple.. |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Hi everyone,
I have now made the first preview release of the Sports Tracker for maemo. It has currently support for storing the tracks in GPX format, and displaying the most important statistic during recording (elapsed time, current speed, average speed, distance). For the next release, I will try to make the analysis of old, stored records. Please look at Maemo Garage. Also read the release notes for more information. Especially note that the program needs the maptile loader to be installed. I've done the basic testing for it, but there might be some corner cases where it does not work correctly, so therefore I recommend to do a little testing track before taking it to a real use. Bugs can be reported through the garage bug tracker. Stay tuned for following releases and enjoy the testing! |
Re: Sports Tracker?
I have noticed it yesterday night, very cool one.. can't wait you implement all of the features!
|
Re: Sports Tracker?
Great! I'll try it as soon as my Noo8 finishes charging.
Hope this will help me get rid of Nokia sports tracker which is connecting to 3G network each time I open it (despite the live upload has been disabled), sucking my remaining credit  |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Maxilogan
Taking the thread dangerously off topic here (apologies), but try setting the access point on sports tracker on the phone to None in settings. This stops the application from connecting to 3G. I use it, and although the cost is not a problem as I have fixed price data access (1GB a month for £10, 12 euros approx) the battery life when my 6120 is connected to the internet is a concern. Then just turn it back on to upload. It's a bit of a hack but works for me. Gary (gazza_d on sports tracker!) |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Thanks a lot, I'll try it out.
At this moment I have a rechargeable plan (I know it is something quite uncommon outside of italy), planning to subscribe a 30€ / 250 min / 100 SMS / 1GB plan in the next few weeks :) |
Re: Sports Tracker?
By the way, I installed it and I'm sure this will be a great program. The interface is very sleek and elegant, very usable and professional.
Keep up this great work! |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Any updates on this cool software ?

Re: Sports Tracker?
Hi again everyone,
I have the next release coming up. It's pretty much complete now, but I want first to do some quick testing. I was also requested to do a name change for the project, and I'm waiting for the reply from maemo.org staff about the project name change (it would be a lot less painful that way so that I would not need to apply for a new project, re-enter all information, submit the old releases and redo the svn commits). If it seems to take too long, I might put a release temporarily available on my personal web pages. If I'll do that, I'll let you know. |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Cool! Thank you!
Can't wait to test it out. |

Re: Sports Tracker?
I also just found out there's a free Java application for my SE K630i.
I am going to test it out too tonight as we're planning a run around the university. When this'll come out I'll make a comparison between the two apps (unfortunately I can't try out the Nokia's SportsTracker S60 application as well). |
Re: Sports Tracker?
Tried the S60 version today, got my new E51 on saturday. Its very nice and works well, my bike odometer and the sports tracker more or less agree. Uploading to google maps worked nicely too (google satellite/earth doesnt cover this area).

New release available
There is a new release of the software available. As I earlier said, there was a rename, and the new name is "eCoach". The program is available at https://garage.maemo.org/projects/ecoach/.
New features include track analyzis (drawing different graphs, getting maximum speed etc), several bug fixes and minor improvements (you can view the detailed changelog, the version 0.2 includes changes from 2008-05-17 until today, so there is a bit too much to list everything here :D) I recommend that you also install the 0.2 version of the maptile-loader, as it does not connect to internet every time it gets a map tile, but checks the cache first. I needed to change some function parameters for this, so unfortunately it is not compatible with any other repositories made for the 0.1 version. Now that I think of it, I should have probably renamed also the maptile-loader, as it is sort of my fork of it... Oh, and because of the new name, the old version does not get uninstalled automatically. I recommend to uninstall the old version and then installing the new one. I hope that you like it! |

Re: Sports Tracker?
This is an excellent looking piece of software. I just downloaded it so I haven't used it yet, but it looks very promising with a lot of great features.

Do the map tiles need to be loaded from an internet connection each time eCoach is run? If so, is there a way to disable it checking for internet connections and run eCoach without a map? I also already have a Google maps .db file that is used by Maemo Mapper, is there any way to use this .db file instead of the default one? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Sports Tracker?
I'd just like to add another 'this is way cool'. Its something I've been looking for and knew I could never program anything like it! I'll be using it myself too.
One question, it mentions the 'Alive heart rate monitor', but I can't seem to find links anywhere to buy it. Much less any sort of bluetooth heart rate monitor. Anyone have any suggestions? Again, thanks for a very cool program further extending the usefullness of the N810! Oh, I also wanted to add that I do actually run with mine. I don't have a bike mount for it yet, but I might try sticking it in my camel back while I'm riding. I don't find it to be all that heavy to run with, especially since its playing my music anyway! But then again, I'm a recreational runner only. |
