Blue LCARS theme released

LCARS 4.1 has been released, with some minor bug fixes and a 3rd color scheme.

Feedback is welcome.

It's weird that I just decided to check this project today and found there was an update. Downloaded it and works great. Like it better than the other two themes. Thanks!

Thank you.

Very nice. I wished there was a way to create complete themes without setting up Scratchbox. It seems like a lot of work to install and configure for non developers.

As one of the people who asked for a "modern" LCARS theme ala Nemesis, I am very happy to see that the developers thought it was a good idea also. Keep up the great work!

Re: Blue LCARS theme released

Is there a "quick"way to install the latest version of LCARS? I have the previous version of the theme and wondered if there was a way to upgrade.

Otherwise, I assume I need to unsinstall the entire theme in the correct order (selecting the old default theme first), and then install it all again fresh?

Thanks! (Can't wait to try out the new color scheme!)

Michael

Assuming you're on ITOS 2008, you can just run the installer and it should work fine, whether you're upgrading from LCARS 4.0 or installing for the first time. If you're on OS 2006 or 2007, you'll have to get the new OS before you can install the new themes.

So far I really like the colours of the new theme!

Re: Blue LCARS theme released

I just thought I would offer first my thanks for adding some real fun to the device just for fun's sake...thanks so much.

Next I would like to pass along an observation that all of the PADD themes sort-a-kinda foobar the omweather widget thingy. The icons for it show find on the desktop area (or whatever it's called on the tablets) but when you click on a particular day, since the text is black and something in the these changes the background to black, well, you get the picture. Black text on black backgound leads to no info...not sure if there is a work around or not but I do make use of that silly weather widget yet I am compelled to use your PADD themes as they make me smile every day I first use the tablet and all day after that...

:D

Hi there,

I can only agree with brecklundin, I very much like the new blue theme. Thanks a lot for that. But unfortunately the OMWeather-thing is critical to me. I would also be happy if this could be fixed :)

Thanks and regards,
Corwin

Two weeks ago I did open a bugreport on this in the OMWeather bugtracker and it's assigned to one of the OMWeather developers. So I guess they are working on it. At least they know that the bug exists.

This bug will be fixed in version 0.19.6 of OMWeather. It will be released this week.

I don't know about the whole problem with the weather applet. I just changed the default colour in settings to orange and it shows fine.

Ian I have the problem with button "Update" in popup window of OMWeather. This button is hidden. But when I press it - it is shown.

Vlad

This is strange. Which version of OMweather and OS are you using?

Vlad.

That's a strange type of button - it uses a button graphic for the clicked state but none for the normal state. The same type of button appears in Nokia's PDF reader (the page-number button)... Since the background is white in the built-in themes, the black symbol is visible with or without a button graphic behind it. But in themes with a black background, the black symbol is invisible until clicked.

If you could make "Update" be the same type of button as the "Close" and "Settings" buttons which appear in that window, then it would work perfectly in LCARS and other dark themes.

OMWeather lets you set the color of the text on the applet itself. But the details view (which pops up when you click on the applet) currently has hardcoded black text, which is invisible in themes that set a black background.

It would be kind of difficult (but not impossible) to make the top bar thicker. Since quite a few images would need to be changed to line up with a thicker bar, it would probably be best to make the changes in the template image, and rebuild the theme. See our howto if you're interested: http://synthesize.us/LCARS_PADD/HOWT..._hildon_themes

Text sizes, on the other hand, are easy to change. They're defined in /usr/share/themes/theme-name/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

To give any of the LCARS themes large fonts, simply replace the "Font definitions" section of the gtkrc file with the following:
Code:

##############################
#
# Font definitions
#
##############################

style "osso-SystemFont" {
        font_name = "Nokia Sans 16.75"
}

style "osso-EmpSystemFont" {
        font_name = "Nokia Sans Bold 16.75"
}

style "osso-TitleFont" {
        font_name = "Nokia Sans 12.75"
}

style "osso-ButtonFont" {
        font_name = "Nokia Sans 16.75"
}

style "osso-SmallFont" {
        font_name = "Nokia Sans 11.625"
}

style "osso-LargeFont" {
        font_name = "Nokia Sans 29.5"
}

style "osso-HWRFont1"
{
  font_name = "Nokia Sans 52"
}

style "osso-HWRFont2"
{
  font_name = "Nokia Sans 38"
}

Hope that helps.

Re: Blue LCARS theme released

munky261 -
The LCARS themes use a modified theme layout package, which widens the template to accommodate some additional images, and includes changes to the matchbox.xml and gtkrc files. Also, our theme packages install many icons which ThemeMaker does not. In other words, the LCARS themes would be incomplete if built with ThemeMaker.

If you want, you could boot an Ubuntu LiveCD and then follow our build instructions. If you decide to do that, I'd suggest using Inkscape (free for Linux/Mac/Windows) to edit the SVG version of the template file (and export as a PNG when you're ready to build).

The LCARS Modern (blue) source package is here: http://synthesize.us/debs/hildon-the....14.4-4.tar.gz

The other option would be to edit the various images individually and copy them onto your device. Like I said in my last post, quite a few would need to be changed to accommodate a thicker top bar. Here's a list (hopefully I got them all.)

In /usr/share/themes/lcars-modern/images/

qgn_plat_application_status_bar_background.png
qgn_plat_button_close_normal.png
qgn_plat_button_close_pressed.png
qgn_plat_button_minimize_normal.png
qgn_plat_button_minimize_pressed.png
qgn_plat_home_status_bar_background.png
qgn_plat_status_bar_background.png
qgn_plat_status_bar_pressed.png
qgn_plat_status_bar_second_level_background.png
qgn_plat_task_navigation_background.png
qgn_plat_task_navigation_button_01_focused.png
qgn_plat_task_navigation_button_01_pressed.png

And the statusbar icons are in /usr/share/icons/lcars-modern/40x40/hildon/

Honestly though, I think doing a proper re-build (booting from a LiveCD and following our HOWTO) might be easier. Plus, then you could distribute the modified theme easily; I'm sure there are those who'd appreciate it.
