Sylpheed

The website for this program is down apparently. Anyone esle know of a link or have a package that they could send my way?

aflegg 2006-04-05 10:58

It is indeed down. The box hosting bleb.org's suffered some weird failure. It's sat next to me, unplugged, awaiting further diagnosis this evening.

As for another link, unfortunately my *home* box is down as well, meaning I can't get it off there for you either.

Many apologies for the inconvenience.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hey no problem! Perhaps bump this thread when its up and running ;)

aflegg 2006-04-05 18:08

Will do :-)

Email me the packages to my Gmail account. (guess the name?) I'll host it on genesis. I've got more bandwidth than I need.

aflegg 2006-04-06 09:07

I would - hell, I'd even put them on GooglePages too - if I had them. Unfortunately they're on the box which is randomly rebooting.

Backup server at home should be up and running this evening, and I think that's got a copy on I'll put somewhere accessible.

Priority at the moment is getting bleb.org back up and running, though.

Cheers,

Andrew

It's attached. Sorry for the delay.

aflegg: Thanks very much! :)

Can I beg for source (or the patches) also? :)

I thought that if aflegg or Disconnect are interested in improving sylpheed, it would be great if you could patch is so that:
1. Preferences for search bar and status bar would be in effect at start
2. Other preferences would also be in effect (now I have to go to preferences and press OK for it to apply my saved preferences)
3. Support full screen
4. Have an icon (desktop file tweaking, I presume)
5. Support the hold-down-pen-for-right click mode.
6. Have pre-set command for opening opera browser (So that links work)
7. Check that the initial account setup wizard would be larger (easier to read)

And here's - not so really neccesary:
8. Put the account tree into a menutree (and add a button for it in the top bar)
9. Fix preferences to have scrolls

It would be great if you have the time and the interest to fix at least some of these issues.

I have said this before as well, I love the app, but it could be so much better if I didn't have to go killing it in terminal every time I loose the app somehow. And setting it up to run properly every time I have to open sylpheed again is a little bit of pain.

Thanks for hearing me out!

headers only

Is there a way to download only the headers like in the original email client? I don't want to have to keep 500mb or more for email space on my 770. I would just use the built in maemo version, but with two accounts all the email is in the same inbox, this is not good

any help is appreciated, can I download only headers (sylpheed), or have it prompt me for which account to use in maemo os version?

aflegg 2006-04-26 08:51

Unfortunately not as far as I know.

I think sylpheed-claws might, and so I might look at switching the port to that.

In the meantime - now bleb's back and the 2006 OS with its API changes doesn't look any closer (if anything, the latest 2005 OS hints it'll not be soon) I might start looking at doing more on the existing Sylpheed port.

Top bugs:
  • Lack of task navigator icon (particularly annoying when Matchbox hides a modal window)
  • Use my GtkMenuBar -> AppView menu function in the other windows.
  • Scrollbars on preferences as well as account setup
  • More sensible default view settings
  • Ensure view settings saved on exit.

I'm sure kontorri and tigert will have lots of thoughts ;-)

Cheers,

Andrew

PS. If I had the open, collaborative todo list described here: http://www.bleb.org/writings/diary/&month=04/2005#20 - you'd be able to create new todos/feature requests and vote/comment on existing ones.
