N810 gets tilt stick...

Now, we have everything for an ultimate Driftbox device: GPS, Tiltstick, OBD-II

Any chance you could provide a "kit" or even a soldered print?
My soldering is a bit rusty (done some electronics in pre-SMD times - yeah I know) and I don't have any way's for the moment to make PCB's , let alone it's 15 years ago I programmed by last microcontroller ;)

Very cool. Wiimaemo.

Pretty cool, but as much as I love Marble Madness, it doesn't excite me that much. Maybe I just lack the vision to see what can be done with this new ability.

This is VERY cool... I can see someone making software version of the G-Tech meter that measures g-force, acceleration, etc for cars..
http://www.gtechpro.com/ss.html

I will definitely keep my eye on this!!

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

G-force meter would be cool...

but I have always thought that if there were a built in accelerometer on the tablets.. the coolest thing would be shake commands...

like a quick flick to the left to go "Back" in the browser....

and best of all.. a brisk shake up and down to close all windows and show the desktop. aka.. clearing an etch a sketch.

Nice!

Now who will be first to put a mini-B connecto rigged for host mode on it :)

Watch the video--they've already done it, and made it so it wraps around the back of the NIT.

Oh, awesome. Will do so when I get home.

I may look into patching Enigma with Wiimote functionality :)

Maybe It could fit inside the device somewhere. N800 seems to be a little bit spacey... Only issues is connectivity - have to trip host in order to use it every time, but thats no biggie... a little script on startup could fix that.....

Hmmm maybe I should get an N800 - seems more modification friendly...

That thing would go nicely with my Pandora. No startup scripts, no USB plug converters, no powered hub issues, no stands in the way, no...

Well, no Nokia, essentially.

Man this looks great, and sign me up for one as well. Now just to see what devs can do with it and when.

If someone could offer a kit of this that would be amazing!

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

anyone seen anything smaller and, well, cheaper of late? want one that's as small as a small bluetooth dongle that plugs into USB port!

qole 2009-01-20 01:10

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

I don't know what you mean by "cheaper", I didn't see any prices anywhere on the page referenced by the OP... And I don't know about "smaller" either, that's a pretty small device... But my brother just bought the phidgets.com USB accelerometer, to use as part of a racing package he's trying to build... It turns out that there's no software out there currently that can use a GPS and accelerometer to log your racing performance...

EDIT: An engineering acquaintance of mine suggested buying an accelerometer from sparkfun.com, but that requires some assembly (it appears that once again I'm an idiot :) )

Did you actually read the first post of this thread? The accelerometers you suggest to have a look at are the same ones that have been used on the tiltstick. The "requires some assembly" you mention is exactly the development and assembly of the other parts on the tiltstick which are e.g. required for USB interfacing with the tablet and sensor calibration.

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

Actually yes I did read the first post... But I'm not an engineer myself, so I kinda glaze over when people list part numbers...

Anyway the sparkfun.com link was an afterthought, the pre-assembled phidgets.com accelerometer was the one I am actually interested in...

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

For automotive, there are the 6dof (unless I can figure out the Wii):

http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/pro...oducts_id=8190

That is the next thing I plan to add to minigpsd, but my motorcycle is in winter storage.

tz1 2009-01-23 21:11

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

The sparkfun 6dof above connected via bluetooth, but now I have to write something interesting (and add it to my minigpsd logging).

Note I got the 75 deg/sec version for automotive, but you might want one that allows for faster rotation for hand use. This is about 12.5 rpm or one revolution every 5 seconds. The only time I go anywhere near this in my car is when I'm practicing driving on ice in the middle of a large parking lot.

qole 2009-01-23 23:39

Re: N810 gets tilt stick...

I would love to have accelerometer logging added to minigpsd... I don't suppose you could add anything for the 2-axis phidgets.com guy in my previous post? They have an API available on their website and everything... I would love to see it blended into a gpx file or something similar.
