OMWeather Update available

It seems Vlad and Pavel are now on version 0.19.6...

I found the upgrade today in application manager. On my OS2008/N800 the upgrade adds current weather info to the first icon. Previously the setting was there however, clicking it simply made the first icon the default "No info available"... Now I see the current temp and conditions.

Kudos! http://www.clicksmilies.com/auswahl/ernaehrung004.gif

Re: OMWeather Update available

I updated to this version yesterday but it never occurred to me to try turning on the "now" icon. Unfortunately for me it still shows "?" and n/a even after an update. Oh well...

-John

-Never mind, when I set the valid time longer then 1 hour and updated the weather it showed up. Seems odd to me that the "now" weather would be more then an hour old...

Re: OMWeather Update available

I didn't think that was a change in this version: that setting worked for me in 0.19.5.

I read somewhere that this version contains a fix for the background colours, which were interfering with some themes. I've not spotted any changes.

Re: OMWeather Update available

I'm on v0.19.6 (N800/OS2008) and the "now" icon has always indicated "unavailable". Until yesterday when the DST didn't seem to update properly, so I manually went in to set the correct time. About an hour later, DST updated (so now my time was an hour off again) and I had to go back manually and change it again. But after doing this, I noticed that my "now" icon was bright and sunny!

Wonder if the time change had anything to do with making "now" work properly?

Re: OMWeather Update available

Just saw the update in the app. manager on my 770 (os2006).
I noticed that the moon phase only reflects the current day (i.e. no matter what day I click on the phase is listed the same)
It has been this way since the moon phase was implemented. (at least on my device)
This is still one of the best programs for the tablet.
Thanks
ben

OMWeather 0.19.6 still doesn't show date correctly

Since the -5 version of OMWeather still didn't show the correct time and date,
I just updated to -6, which finally supports the German language, many thanks for that;-)

This version still can't seem to handle German date settings correctly,
or at least it can't display the date: It shows 'Freitag 00 Januar' ,
and the OMWeather FAQ is not of great help here.
Of course I have a correct timezone and date setting; This is one of the first things you have to do on the NIT...

Actually I was able to 'tweak' the -5 version of OMWeather to display the correct date for some days by setting a completely different time zone and home town temporarily, then switching back to 'Germany' and a German home town.
However this worked for a few days, and then again it failed.
So this temporary time zone switch isn't a solution,
and shouldn't be necessary at all.

Is there a fix in the pipe for this (display) bug ?

Don't get me wrong:
I consider OMWeather to be one of the few killer applications for the NIT,
many thanks to the authors for their work!

somewhat unrelated question: for my UK sites, OMWeather always seems to report the "feels like" temperature as identical to the given temp, regardless of humidity or wind. Is this a bug in OMW, or the data provided to it?

This is strange. Please add other station for example New York. And check up it.

Am currently running ver 0.19.3 When I try to update, I get the error message: "Unable to install. Software contains updates to packages installed from a different source and is likely to harm the system. Contact software author".

I assume I have a repository entry screwed up somewhere, but haven't a clue how to identify. Any ideas?

TIA.

You may have simply installed the original deb file from another place. I get that message if I had previously downloaded the deb to my tablet and then installed it.

Go into "Red Pill" mode before doing the upgrade. You will still be presented this warning but you will be allowed to procede.

I wouldn't worry about that really - the whole concept of 'feels like' is totally bogus anyway. It only makes some kind of sense if you stand naked in the wind or some such. I've been out there in -40 C (-40 F) and I can assure you that whatever warmer temperature +wind that is supposed to "feel like" -40 doesn't feel like that at all. Cold weather with wind has to be handled differently from cold(er) weather without wind.

I added ny/ny, and have been monitoring it for a few days: haven't yet seen the real temp and "feels like" display different values, even with high values for wind and/or RH.

Checking with weather.com shows that *it* does show different values for the two temps.

Aha! It looks like the problem in OMW might be related to the F -> C conversion?

If I select Fahrenheit, I see 35F/25F for New York, but if I select Celsius, I see 2C/2C. Is the unit conversion using the wrong source value here, perhaps?

I'm using 0.19.6, with Grzanka's 0.2 iconset.

I just removed, and then re-added US - New York - New York - using the menus, not as a custom station.

OMW says:

Now: 42F, Feels like: 37F

Now: 6C, Feels like: 6C

42F is 5.6C, 37F is 2.8C.

So it appears that OMW is showing the "Now" temp for both fields, when displaying Celsius units, but showing the two temps correctly when displaying Fahrenheit.

thanks...

Wow! I started this thread just to give folks a heads up about a new upgrade. Thanks for stopping in and your helpful replies vasvlad.

Since you are responding here to feedback and future feature requests I thought I would make mine known if you don't mind.
I reference a Doppler radar image for real time weather information. Would it be possible to add a configurable HTTP/FTP link to your detail/settings pop up?

wonderful! that's great service indeed, thanks much.

Whilst I'm in favour, might I suggest an RFE, please? :)

I normally use Celsius, as that's the norm here now in the UK, but I miss the finer divisions given by Fahrenheit. Is there any chance of adding an option whereby Celsius can be shown with a decimal point?

e.g. 69F would be shown as 20.6C instead of 20C?

thanks much for considering it, and thanks again for the bug fix.

Dear Cdmackay!

Omweather takes weather forecast in Celsius (from weather.com) and converts it to Fahrenheit if it necessary.

that's most interesting; when I visit (uncustomised) weather.com, it shows me temps in Fahrenheit, so I assumed that was how OMW did it, too.

thanks for the clarification...

I've just downgraded back to 0.19.6 because 0.20 never displayed current weather for me at any station. I thought it might be my lowly little town in NJ, but for days, it hasn't displayed at any station.

Now 0.19.6 is back and so is current weather.

If you mean that the "combination" views "Now" icon doesn't display correctly then I also have had this with the new BETA update.

What I found was that the "Now:" data is correctly updated and displayed OK but I would get a ? mark for the large icon...

The problem was solved when I unchecked the "Show only current weather on first icon" box on the "Interface" tab of the settings dialog.

The "combination" layout's large icon now matches the "Now:" data.

New OMWeather update today? Installed the update (0.20.1) and now am having the problem where it doesn't get current weather information.

Edit: Just to test, I downgraded back to version 0.20, and it works again.

Seems that 0.20.1 does something different, for some reason it doesn't get and/or display current weather information.

I need more information for the solving of this problem from your device:

1. Install Omweather 0.20.1
2. Reboot device
3. Update weather forecast
Then:
4. What does show a command 'date' in xterm
5. I need your omweather config files (/var/lib/gconf/apps/maemo/omweather/%gconf.xml)
5. Your clock config files (/var/lib/gconf/apps/osso/clock/%gconf.xml)
4. All files from directory /home/user/apps/omweather/

Sorry, I have no idea how to provide config files, etc... I'll look into it and try to figure it out.

To downgrade I think you just go to the garage page and pick the previous version. I uninstalled first.

FWIW, the whole shebang is not working for me as of this AM. May be a temporary thinng,

Edit: actually am getting an error message "wrong zipcode" when I add a new station... ?

I'm getting the same error, running version 0.20.1. I'm pretty sure it worked fine all weekend, but his morning I'm seeing the same 'wrong zipcode' error. I've tried adding international (non-US) as well as US stations and they all seem to have the same error.

I'm not sure where it pulls the weather information...could something have changed on the backend?
