gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

I thought I would post it here as GConf is a fun part to delve into of the IT.

I posted a screenshot of it running on my N800.

It seems to be fully hildonised.

If you find any good edits, please post them here!

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

Hi
I'm a Newbie with a question about Gconf-Editor.
I'm running the latest OS on a N800 and have Gconf-Editor installed and working fine, "I think." I say this only because when I run it and look in the apps section, its shows programs that I have un-installed and are NOT listing in the App Manager. Is there some way to correct this or do I just Un-install, then Re-Install Gconf-editor to get a new listing?

There is nothing wrong. Settings for uninstalled applications are not normally removed.

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

I had this app before I re-flashed my N800 but when I go to the link above it gets as far as loading the Application Manager and preparing to install and I get an error "Unable to download gconf-editor Application package not found". I went the the application Home page but could not find the NIT version. Anyone know where it can be downloaded from?

I believe it's in extras these days, so (with that enabled) it should show up in the app manager.

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

Yes, I needed it for diablo so I took the time to upload the chinook into diablo extras so it should be there for sure :)

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

What is the Catalog details for the extras you are talking about because I have all my catalogs enabled but no gconf-editor

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

There's no gconf-editor in Diablo Extras.

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

Damn! You're right, my apologies. I did upload to diablo extras-devel but I never promoted to extras it seems...

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

so what is the address for that respository?

fpbrooks 2008-12-19 19:23

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

I never got the answer to my question "Whats the address for the repository that contains gconf-editor?" I needed that utility badly to fix a problem I was having.

So, with much sweat I did some searching in all the repositories I could get addresses for and found the answer myself and here it is for anyone who has the same need or want I did. Add or enable the following catalog to your application Manager:

chinook extras

http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ chinook free

Remember to refresh the Application Manager before browsing for the program.

In fact there's a version for Diablo in
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/ free non-free

I don't know why it didn't make it to the Extras repository. (I also don't know if there's any difference between the Chinook and Diablo versions.)

Re: gconf editor for os2008 (not by me)

I uploaded Ed Bartosh's chinook version to -devel. Functionality wise, it's the same - I just uploaded it to extras-devel because I hated adding the chinook repo to install it ;). Regarding extras, I never bothered promoting it because I feel it should be Ed Bartosh's decision (although, I do not think he would care if I did promote it as he's got it in chinook extras...)...
