Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
I seem to be having some problems with my N810 recognising a Sandisk 8 GB microSDHC.
I currently have a 2 GB microSD installed via a miniSD adapter with no problems but when I install the 8 GB SD it is not recognised and my system stalls. To solve the problem I have reformatted the card (FAT32) on my laptop and it seems to work fine when I transfer files to and from it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Apologies everyone. I should clarify that after reformatting it still doesn't work in th3 N810

Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
does the n810 file manager see the card? if so, can you reformat it in there?
if not, how is it partitioned? for it to work automatically and be seen by the file manager you need to have the whole card, or at least some of it, as the first partition. |

As mentioned this is only the case on the N810 as my Vista laptop has no issues recognising the card. I am not using the card for anything else but the N810 so there should be no issues regarding partitioning. I hope !!!! |
Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
you need to check out the partitioning; use sfdisk or similar on the tablet, or whatever Vista has.
the tablet file manager will only see the first partition, I believe, and the partition type should be something sensible, either vfat or linux. if you can, I would use "sfdisk -l" on the tablet to check that it's sensible, and if not, use sfdisk to make it so, then put a filesystem on it with either mkdosfs (for vfat) or mke2fs for ext2. |
Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
Ok, this may seem simple and stupid but try this: push the Microsdhc as hard as you can into the adapter, push the card into the tablet as hard as you can (use the stylus) and then close the cover as hard as you can... (not being sarcastic).

Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
if it is the internal card that's giving problems: does the tablet say "memory card available" when you replace the battery cover? If not, has the little magnet fallen out? it's a little square, 5x5mm, on the cover itself, by the latch. on the n800 it is, at least
if this magnet isn't there, the tablet won't notice that the rear cover has been replaced, and the internal memory card will remain disabled. |
Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
Thanks for the suggestions gents.
I'm having a problem with the external card rather than the internal one. I tried pushing it in hard but it didn't make a difference. I know it doesn't seem to make sense but i'm putting it down to an incompatability between the microSDHC and the miniSD adaptor. What do you think ?? |
Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
Do you see any devices created for it in /dev? Something like /dev/mmcblk*?

Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
Your miniSD adaptor may be broken. The connector inside is very delicate.

Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
I'm having a very similar problem, I have an SD card that does work, a 2gig SD. I have tried 3 other sd cards, a 1 gig SD, a 2 gig SD, and an 8gig SDHC. All three of those cards cause weird problems. It doesn't read any if them, anything that tries to read from it crashes. df hangs, du hangs, ls shows /media/mmc1 as empty. There are devices for it but it looks like it can't read it. sfdisk -l also hangs. And in order to fix any of it I have to hard shutdown by removing the battery because none of the hardware buttons work, not even the power button. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

While waiting to get a microSD-to-miniSD adapter, I formatted the card in a card reader with one partition to a ext2 filesystem. This was done on my Mandriva 2008.1 Linux system. Am open to any suggestions to solve this riddle. Oh, Penguinbait's install-tools is install on the internal 2gb card. Thaibill |
Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
Despite some claims here to the contrary I would strongly suspect not all micro to mini adapters work with SDHC.
Of Sandisk, Kingston, A-Data, and Trascend at Newegg only the Kingston offers a micro to mini converter. Please correct me before I buy an 8GB Sandisk micro SDHC for my N810. |
Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
The Sandisk adapter worked for me.

Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
I got a miniSD patriot 8G. It came with SD adapter, works for both N800 and N810, so far........ and for the N810, no, you do not use any adapter at all :). Got it from newegg.com, $34.02 shipped. You will not find it from Newegg.com website, I think they are a little shy about this particular product ;), you have to use my link, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220295.
This talks about the product, if you would like to know more, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=20428 BTW, the website said s/h $5.99, if you use USPS, it is $2.03, that makes $31.99+$2.03 a $34.02 shipped, you save $3.97. Thank you, bun :) Hope this help, bun |

Well I found this on a Sandisk forum.

Re: Help with a 8GB MicroSDHC in a N810
I bought that exact San Disk Micro SDHC + Adapter on Sunday and it is working fine on my n810. So, it is compatible.
OUt of curiosity, try Penguinbait's clone .deb from www.penguinbait.com. That tool will properly format the card. If after several tries it does not work, I think you have a hardware problem. Here's my writeup on that process: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=20702 |
