Formula 1 Live Timing & Scoring

I'm trying to get F1's official timing and scoring to work on my tablet (so I don't have to have my PC running) and it just shows a blank page.

Is this a Flash (yet another) issue ?

Or is there any way to "trick" (like what some have done tricking sites like google docs or for viewing on iphone etc.(I realize iphone doesn't support flash either) ?

If this is a Java app (which I suspect it is), it won't work on the iT

You can use live-f1 stand alone console app for this.

You need account for live-f1:n web-service: www.formula1.com

You need also to activate root for X terminal. You can use becomeroot package for this. Becomeroot

Then you need to get ncurces-base package for tablet and it can be found from Maemo Chinook repository. Just go to http://gronmayer.com/it/ page and click "Click to Install!" picture. This will add Chinook repository.

After that open up X terminal and get root permissions, install ncurses-base and return to normal user with following commands.

Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install ncurses-base
exit

Now get live-f1 package live-fi and install it to tablet.

Live-f1 must be started from X terminal.
Code:

live-f1
When started first time it will ask username and password. If you make mistake typing this just remove ".f1rc" file from /home/user directory.

Code:

rm /home/user/.f1rc
You need also to set font very small before starting live-f1 and be sure you are on full screen mode. If you are using this with N800 you need to be very quick to minimize on-screen keyboard. Hope this helps.

Scott James Remnant is the one to thank for this one. I have nothing to with it I just remembered this software from the early days of 770 and managed to found that download link from old maemo wiki.

I'm getting this following error:

Insufficient lines on display

Using my office WLAN, I'm getting the following error message:

live-f1: unable to open data stream: Connection refused

I'm running an N800. Any idea why?

Re: Formula 1 Live Timing & Scoring

Monospace at 18 did it for me.

I'm on monospace 14 now and switching over to monospace 10. My N800 has no option for monospace 18.

update: great, now it says I have no connection to the server. *grrr*

Server seems to be up so firewall (in the network you are using) can be blocking this. Try it in other network.

When you start live-f1 on N800 you need to put on-screen keyboard down immediately after pressing enter or you can hit rocker key up to get live-f1 command from command history and hitting center of rocker to start application.

Re: Formula 1 Live Timing & Scoring

Or even better, add KP_Enter as a shortcut on the toolbar and type in live-f1, hide the keyboard and press the Enter.

very cool. Thanks.
I had to use font mono 12.
easy way of entering is type live-f1 then close
keyboard then use large d-pad
button on console and it enters your x-term
command. Hope this helps. Dan

Re: Formula 1 Live Timing & Scoring

OMG Finally !! I was just going to write up a "I need more help" post when it finally worked (for some reason it kept erroring out with my login info) thx so much to all for this and especially to mve (and Scott James Remnant) for this application.

Just curious but how hard or what would it take to make an actual (OS2008)application for this ? (where you wouldn't need to do it the current sate via X-Term)

(BTW if anyone enjoy's F-1 and currently have a Xbox Live Gold acct. please come join us in our Live chat during every F-1 race, you can PM me or email me with your Gamertag and info)

Re: Formula 1 Live Timing & Scoring

Well I just finished watching the Bahrain GP and the app. was brilliant, much nicer to have it on my tablet then on my noisy PC, though it seems to be abit unstable. I was using monopoint 8 and now and again I'd the error "insufficient lines on display", I hope someone could pick up this great software and make it into an actual running application for OS2008.

Thanks again to all that replied on this thread.
