Online Calendaring

Just wanted a review of the best and useful Online Calendaring sites that most of you use.

To review a few I have tried ...

Google Calendar
It is the most full featured and on the N810 browser it shows of pretty well.
Bit slow to load the full page on a 3G connection though.
Has a quick Add function at bottom of page (is date and time context sensitve as the desktop version)

GCal mobile version (so no need to tweak browser setting to emulate iPhone)
www.google.com/calendar/m
see screenshot below...

30Boxes

Another very clean interfaced online calendar.
Doesnt seem as detailed as GCal, but is nevertheless quite functional and also popular (you need a site which has some popularity and on which you can expect to see your friends also, otherwise theres no purpose to online collaboration).

Can import GCal and othert calendars into 30B. Nice features in comparison to others is integration of Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, MySpace ID into 30B to view all these online presenses of your friends and buddies who are online and sharing with you and vice-versa.

Like GCal, you can see buddies online who you have in your contacts at 30B. Contats integrate with Yahoo, Plaxo, GMail, Hotmail. Lots of sharing options on this calendar. All in all, pretty cool.
I really liked 30boxes because of the nice ways of classifying events without creating several calendars and also the shortcuts and features.

The 2nd screenshot of 30B is the iPhone version. Sadly it wastes lot of whitespace on the horizontal display of the Nokia IT.

MyMemorizer

Its a nifty calendar to remind yourself of events and send reminders as emails or as SMS.

While novel in its time, now all online calendars (or nearly all) do this... GCal send SMS to the phone too, so dont know if this online calendar has any other differentiating featue at the moment anymore - apart from the fact it seemed to load up fast on my IT and fits the screen pretty well too.

Don't mean to derail your thread but I must ask why would you use the fairly gimped google mobile site instead of a fully featured calendar like GPE? What are the main problems that people have with GPE calendar and Erminig sync? I have tried using google mobile and just like using the gmail mobile email found that it underused the N810's capabilities.

You try GMail Mobile with an iPhone-like useragent ID, or just the regular GMail Mobile? The iPhone version of GMail works pretty well, with the help of some greasemonkey script that's around (makes it resolution-independent) and especially in portrait mode.

I don't like the idea of all the iPhone-specific junk, but the iPhone GMail is pretty decent for touch-screen devices in general.

Re: Online Calendaring

Well, I do use GPE with GCal sync myself too. But its more of my persoanal calendar.

For collaborative calendering I always fire up the online version and starightaway enter the evenst I want to share in my friends calendar. GPE seems only to work wiith the default Google calendar and not with the other ones (I use 3 Gcalendars in all).

30Boxes I use also more as a aggregator of my friends stuff apart from the calendar also. Sorry, but GPE does not integrate here. Plus I subscribe to my google calendar in 30B also.

And in these cases where the content is rather large, I do like having the streamlined (to whatever degree on the Nokia N810) iPhone versions so that it loads and shows up faster over 3G connections. Also I like to see it fit the page rather than have to scroll too much.

The only reason I have to search and use the iPhone version URL's is because I don't want to change my browser useragent each time I want to switch back and forth between iPhone / mobile versions and normal full functional browser versions for other sites.

Wonder if there is a flash-based calender that we could download to use offline

There is Scrybe which is supposed to have a lot of offline synchonisation which works well, so I hear.
Haven't had the chance to use it, as its a closed beta site now. Also dont know how well and how fast it renders on the Nokia IT's.

Google gears still doens tdo calendars and Google gears is in development for the IT (on garage project page)

Goovy is a flash based calendar,... again don't know much about it.

I have never had problems with erminig even in alpha stage. My only suggestions are to keep python updated and perhaps try it again if you reflash your firmware.

Erminig indeed syncs with multiple gcalenders I have two set up and you can check a box to toggle them just like the online google calendar. I should probably check into these other online calendars to see if I like them better than GPE. Thanks for the informative replies.

Re: Online Calendaring

I got it working, but it dosent always work.

What we (I) need is a program like GPECalendar that will do this automaticly and sync whenever it sences a internet conection.

On a side note. When I run GPECalendar when I press the X to close it it only minimises it, To get it to close I need to do File > Close. Is there a fix for this?
