USB OTG connection Help Needed
Hey, I'm hoping someone can help. I've been searching for about 4 hours for topics on USB/USB OTG that would help with this issue. I got my USB OTG earlier today and have been trying to connect my "Samsung Blackjack" to it. I've also tried a USB keyboard Flash Drive and portable Storage Drive. I keep getting the same meassage "Unable to connect, no file system available". I can see the USB icon but when I click on it "Connect to USB device" is not highlighted so I cannot chose it. Is there a special file or app I need? I just updated the OS to the latest one 3 days ago. Any help would be great.

If you mean you got an N800 or N810, keyboards and external storage devices won't work until you put the device in USB host mode using a program such as USBControl. As for connecting the Blackjack, you're going to have to be a little more specific what you were trying to do before I can help out. |

Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Sorry guys, I should have been more spicific. I was using the USB OTG adaptor on my N800 and connecting my Blackjack too it. From my understanding I thought all I needed to do was connect the USB OTG to the phone and I was good to go. I do have an unlimited data plan so that is not an issue. Again, thanks for your helpful support.

Next, you might want to expand on exactly what a Samsung Blackjack is, as it may not be immediately apparent to those who can most easily help you. |

Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
no, there's nothing wrong with the adapters; they work just fine.
(I bought two before I even had my n800 in hand -- and gave one to the friend that I knew would want to buy an n800 after seeing mine. he did buy one, and now has the OTG adapter along with it!) |
Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Reaver,
I think you might be a little confused on what the purpose of the OTG dongle is. It is mainly used for connecting to a file system like a thumb drive or hard drive or other supported device. I think some people have like a network adapter they have compiled drivers for and can plug into a powered hub. In order to connect to your phone via usb and use the internet, you would need to compile the drivers for your phone connection as far as I know. It would probably be easier to set up a bluetooth DUN connection to your phone to connect to the internet. Isaac.S Take a look at the wiki for connecting a phone. http://www.internettablettalk.com/wi...e#Connectivity |
Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Thanks for the info guys. By the way, the Samsung Blackjack is a windows mobile phone.
I think I understand now. Thanks Isaac. My mistake, I thought I could just connect the USE OTG adaptor to my phone and get an internet connection. Again, thank for the help. |
Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Wait a minute! The usb protocal supports lots of things, not just file devices. For example, I hook my motorola v3xx phone's target usb port to my mac usb host port and log into the internet just like I can do using bluetooth.
I ought to be able to do the same with my 810, but so far I have not been able to do it or to find any reference to someone else doing it, Does anyone have an authoritative answer as to wether the 810 can do it? |

Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Thanks nhanquy.
My phone (moto v3xx) is properly configured. I've got the right cables. USBControl is installed and works. My 810 connects to the phone properly. The only remaining problem is an "Incompatible usb device" error message. Any hints how to overcome this? An obscurely written item on maemo.org seems to be saying I need to recompile the kernal. I'm shaking in my boots at that prospect. :-) Thanks again. |

https://garage.maemo.org/projects/maemo-pan There's the link to Maemo-Pan. Here is the link to where you can get the download for Windows Mobile 6.1 for the BlackJack I. Unfortunately if you have the BlackJack II I don't think that you can upgrade. http://mobile.txcaesar.net/mobile/ Edit: If you don't want to upgrade to WM6.1 here is a link to the necessary files for Internet Sharing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321393 |
Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Yes, the N810 is Turing-complete, except for the obvious storage limitations, so I'm sure it can do it.
I think I've seen references to success, but not sure where; you'll have to connect it, get it seen as USB-serial or ACM, and use PPP (I think) just as on any other machine. You'll probably want to set up a dummy connection as well. |
Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Im going off topic here, but I have heard references to Turning-Complete multiple times on this forum, and read the Wiki article on it, but can someone explain it in simple terms. Its really bothering me...
What might be happening is that the Blackjack is going into slave mode, and trying to draw too much power from the n810, forcing it to turn off its USB. I don't think this is the problem tough. Use hbail's solution. Simple and elegant. |
Re: USB OTG connection Help Needed
Means it can do anything a Turing machine can do; mathematicians and computer scientists like that, because they've already proven a Turing machine can do most anything. But one characteristic of a Turing machine is infinite storage space, so a logical system (such as a high-level program language, or Life) can be Turing complete, but a physical machine can't ever. If you relax the requirement by accepting anything with some general-purpose store (and assuming that's infinitely large), any general-purpose computer is. A 4-function calculator isn't.
