Nokia N95 8Gb or iPhone 8/16 Gb?

A few days ago the life of my Nokia n73 ended from a bad fall on my way to work, the screen is totally cracked up. I've decided it's about time to buy a new cell phone and just wanted some input on what to buy. At the moment i'm currently leaning towards buying the iPhone, because of the announced SDK they will be selling, but im also interested in the Nokia N95 8Gb. Any input on these phones or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Must have been a bad fall. I have kicked my n73 across a concrete car park twice now, and just got scratches on the side. Not as robust as my wifes 3210, which she ran over in the car twice (once in once out of the parking space). Had to get a new cover for that.

I would personally never buy something for what it could be, always buy it for what it is now, and if it gets better that is great.
Other than that I would call it a very personal thing. The N95 is pretty much like your n73 with a few more features, the iPhone is very different. It would be impossible to say without knowing what you do.

yeah it depends on what you want. But the n95- 8gb us 3g version is better in my opinion. The screen is nice and it also has extendable memory. The camera is wonderful and also if you dont already own a gps it also has that. Personally i would nt go for the iphone if i already had athe n800 because it would make it too much touch. Good old buttons will suffice for phone and others and you have a nice browser in the n800 which you can connect to bluetooth. Wheras with the iphone you are restricted to the edge networks which you cant use along with the bluetooth on the iphone as it only connects to headsets only.

I think with the n800 the n95 8 gb us 3g version is a great pair.

N95 8GB straight up.

Although the signing process is stupid on S60 9.1, the range of apps and games available are amazing.

I would get the N82. Its like the N73 on steroids.

Roughly the same size as the N73, but you get a much faster and better camera with xenon flash. Video recording is pumped up to VGA. Wifi and GPS. Faster processor. 3.5 mm headphone jack. Tons of RAM to multitask with.

I'm ditching my N95 and getting the black one as soon as its out.

But there is no us 3g version of the n82 and the screen of n82 is smaller compared to the n95 8gb

I just got a N95 and love it. There is a ton of fun stuff to do with it, like geotagging photos, and downloading podcasts straight from the device. Once the SDK hits, the iphone might have the same stuff, but right now the N95 is king.

That actually looks quite good. I was never a fan of the N95 particularly, a bit too heavy on the batteries and too big for a phone (for me). The N82 looks quite good.
It will be a while before I can change as I upgraded my 12 month contract on my last N73 in september, but at the moment it is not available on one of my prefered providers, so it will give them a chance to catch up (I am not paying £30/month for 400 mins/500 text, free phone or not!)

I wonder how many people on this forum don't know of the 100's of cool applications on Symbian platform. I have been revisiting S60 recently as since I got an N800 I haven't cared much for smartphone software but it is really amazing how advanced that operating system is.
For my money that N95 US 3g is looking really good. N82 is nice but misses that 3G band. There is also the N78 coming out in May which is the true successor to the N73 and that has US 3g as well. I'm probably going to get the N78 when it comes out.

With CTIA around the corner, I would not buy anything right now.

The n78 looks ok here too. Don't have the 3G issues, as they are both the same here (I guess 3G is something different in the states).
I guess I will see in September which one comes with the better contract.

It fell down a flight of concrete stairs, I was actually surprised to see the screen totally oblitorated. It still works, but I cant see what im doing. It was a pretty robust phone for it's overall plastic feel.

As for my new phone I just ordered an iPhone on ebay a day ago. My company gives me a Blackberry 8700 for work, so the iPhone will serve as my personal cell phone. I really thought about the N95 and it's 3g, but im not a great fan of the Symbian OS s60. Also, paying for 3g in Canada is completely ridiculous. I called Rogers (biggest and only GSM provider in Canada) and the best deal they could give me is 250$ a month, with a data cap in place. I know I will have to deal with EDGE on the iPhone, but on the other hand every big cafe and restaurant has wifi in place, so EDGE will only be used in between these places.

Wow. I mean, wow. I know that canadian money is worth nothing (well, I guess like american money these days) but still.. wow. How much data do you get for that?

I get a half gig thrown in with my 750 minute/month phone for £20 (currently $41 CAD), and I have a separate 3GB HSPDA modem for my laptop/eee for £15 (£25 for 7GB)

Wow.

Wow.
I thought we were the ones who always got ripped off in the UK. That is outrageous!
