Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
1 Attachment(s)
I don't post on these boards very often, frankly I practically never post. I am so noob when it comes to the NIT platform I come here mainly to learn as much as possible. I figured this was my way of "giving" back"... So after two addicting, non-stop (well of course I stopped), heart pounding, gut wrenching days - This is what I've managed to accomplish :)
High Score of 20,425 - Chapter 4 Level 7 Screenshot below: Most my time was spent on Chapter 1 - I just could not figure the darn game out... Once I figured out how to play, I've been unstoppable! Post here if you need help or you're puzzled. I've managed to get pretty proficient in the game, not to pound my own chest, but if you are stumped - POST UP! |

Does anyone have a clear idea what difference the difficulty levels make? This is at Brainstorm level, but I don't know if that just means you get fewer moves to complete each level or if you also get more bonus points for each move left at the end: i.e. I have no idea if the scores are comparable.

Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
1. Work out where the finishing position should be. Often there is only one possible final position, but sometimes there are several and the most obvious one may not be the best.
2. Work out the last few moves to get to the final position. If marble A needs marble B somewhere other than the final position to stop it, then marble A can't be the last one placed. If there is no way to reach your target position at all then look for a different final position. 3. Remember that marbles of the same colour are interchangeable, so the most obvious marble for a location isn't always the best. 4. Don't get dazzled by all those fancy one-way ramps and teleports. Just because they are on the board doesn't mean you *have* to use them. |
Marbles Scoring
Marbles difficulty levels:
Hard gives you twice the score and Brainstorm five times the score of a Normal game. Easy cuts your score in half. You play against a move limit and you'll gain the following score when you finish a level: Code:
Difficulty Level Bonus Bonus per remaining move You have unlimited tries to solve a level! The order in which you solve levels of one chapter does not matter! There are small lights in the right lower corner of the screen of one of the following colors: red(cannot be accessed), orange (can be accessed, not solved yet) and green (already solved, you will not gain any score for solving it again). Just click on a light and confirm to change the level. To enter a new chapter ALL previous levels have to be solved. Obstacles If a marble moves on an arrow it will change its direction to the direction the arrow points at. If a marble comes from the direction the arrow points at it will stop before the arrow. Yellow and black stripes aloingside an arrow mean this tile can neither be accessed from these sides nor from the side the arrow points at. So there is only one way to get past this obstacle. If a marble encounters a teleport it will teleport to the second one of the same color and keep on moving in the same direction. A crumbling wall takes one, two or three hits before it vanishes completely. The number of hits left is displayed by a small digit in the lower right corner of the crumbling wall. This is taken from the original documentation by Michael Speck, but I think it is accurate for osso-lmarbles (see http://lgames.sourceforge.net/index....les&sub=Manual) The documentation also describes the file format for creating your own Marbles levels but I haven't found any signs that anyone else ever created any. |
Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
Anyone can help me out with chapter 1, Level 3 ?
|
Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
Chapter 1 level 3:
____________________ |..............._________ |.....PM.....| |BM.....BM| |--.PM.--| Hopefully that will show up right; and I think that I remembered the colors correctly. |
Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
I need help on Chapter 3 level 8; I think that is the correct level, either way it is the last level in Chapter 3....
How are you guys getting screen shots? It would be easier putting them up then making stupid looking text versions. |

Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
I'm stuck at chapter 1, level 7... :( Two possible places to end. Any clues?...
|
Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
There are actually three, but furthest right is the easiest (or only way) to solve.

Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
I've actually been hoping that someone would consider making more levels for this game. I love it to death, but I've already beat all the included puzzles some 3-4 times already, and now they're boring. :(

Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
I'm not sure the Maemo version supports additional levels -- I tried creating a 'test' level and all I got was WSOD when launching the game.
But always possible, if not probable, that I did something wrong... |
Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
How do you complete Chapter 2 level 4? I am always 2 moves short of getting it. I can't seem to figure out how to save moves earlier. What am I missing? ...and this is on easy!

Re: (Official) Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
Just got it. Too many hours on this level.

Re: Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
Just getting into Marbles on my N900...
I'm stuck on the lowly Chap1 Level 4. Any tips please? Cheers. |

Anyone knows how to complete level 4?
The end zone must be on the bottom right isn't it? Because number 2 can't go anywhere else. But how to get 1 and 3 in there? Edit: Got it. The end zone is wrong in this picture. You can use 3 or 1 to help 2 get out. |
Re: Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
cant even see a possible ending spot for chapter 2 number 6

Re: Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
I've been finally decided to give Marbles a go this past week or so, it's much more addictive than I'd have thought, and finally finished all the levels ... now I need to go through again and try them on a harder setting! ... tis lovely when you get that ureka moment and finally figure out a level ... usually in the middle of the night!

Re: Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
Got through the game on the easy level. But now it won't let me score on level normal nor eirher of the other levels... I can replay any of the games, but never get to score again? I'm stuck at my first and only score...
What am I missing? :-( Thanks and have fun, Chris. |
Re: Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
41250 on Normal - that was fairly entertaining :)

Re: Marbles highest score and help/hint thread
Does anybody remember how we place the marbles in chapter 2 level 2? There doesn't seem to be enough space

Not sure whether I should start a new thread or just tack onto this one.
I've never really gotten into this game because find it hard to distinguish between the different coloured marbles because of the low contrast. So I wrote a quick and dirty python script to generate new colours for the marbles. It needs the "convert" command from imagemagick. Code:
#!/usr/bin/python Code:
convert -size 256x320 xc:black -stroke black -fill 'thistle' -draw 'circle 16,16 32,16' -draw 'circle 48,16 64,16' -draw 'circle 80,16 96,16' -draw 'circle 112,16 128,16' -draw 'circle 144,16 160,16' -draw 'circle 176,16 192,16' -draw 'circle 208,16 224,16' -draw 'circle 240,16 256,16' -fill 'red' -draw 'circle 16,48 32,48' -draw 'circle 48,48 64,48' -draw 'circle 80,48 96,48' -draw 'circle 112,48 128,48' -draw 'circle 144,48 160,48' -draw 'circle 176,48 192,48' -draw 'circle 208,48 224,48' -draw 'circle 240,48 256,48' -fill 'lime' -draw 'circle 16,80 32,80' -draw 'circle 48,80 64,80' -draw 'circle 80,80 96,80' -draw 'circle 112,80 128,80' -draw 'circle 144,80 160,80' -draw 'circle 176,80 192,80' -draw 'circle 208,80 224,80' -draw 'circle 240,80 256,80' -fill 'yellow' -draw 'circle 16,112 32,112' -draw 'circle 48,112 64,112' -draw 'circle 80,112 96,112' -draw 'circle 112,112 128,112' -draw 'circle 144,112 160,112' -draw 'circle 176,112 192,112' -draw 'circle 208,112 224,112' -draw 'circle 240,112 256,112' -fill 'magenta' -draw 'circle 16,144 32,144' -draw 'circle 48,144 64,144' -draw 'circle 80,144 96,144' -draw 'circle 112,144 128,144' -draw 'circle 144,144 160,144' -draw 'circle 176,144 192,144' -draw 'circle 208,144 224,144' -draw 'circle 240,144 256,144' -fill 'blue' -draw 'circle 16,176 32,176' -draw 'circle 48,176 64,176' -draw 'circle 80,176 96,176' -draw 'circle 112,176 128,176' -draw 'circle 144,176 160,176' -draw 'circle 176,176 192,176' -draw 'circle 208,176 224,176' -draw 'circle 240,176 256,176' -fill 'cyan' -draw 'circle 16,208 32,208' -draw 'circle 48,208 64,208' -draw 'circle 80,208 96,208' -draw 'circle 112,208 128,208' -draw 'circle 144,208 160,208' -draw 'circle 176,208 192,208' -draw 'circle 208,208 224,208' -draw 'circle 240,208 256,208' -fill 'green yellow' -draw 'circle 16,240 32,240' -draw 'circle 48,240 64,240' -draw 'circle 80,240 96,240' -draw 'circle 112,240 128,240' -draw 'circle 144,240 160,240' -draw 'circle 176,240 192,240' -draw 'circle 208,240 224,240' -draw 'circle 240,240 256,240' -fill 'firebrick' -draw 'circle 16,272 32,272' -draw 'circle 48,272 64,272' -draw 'circle 80,272 96,272' -draw 'circle 112,272 128,272' -draw 'circle 144,272 160,272' -draw 'circle 176,272 192,272' -draw 'circle 208,272 224,272' -draw 'circle 240,272 256,272' -fill 'orange' -draw 'circle 16,304 32,304' -draw 'circle 48,304 64,304' -draw 'circle 80,304 96,304' -draw 'circle 112,304 128,304' -draw 'circle 144,304 160,304' -draw 'circle 176,304 192,304' -draw 'circle 208,304 224,304' -draw 'circle 240,304 256,304' marbles.jpg Code:
