Modifying Default Sounds?

I've changed both the Nokia Logo Boot Screen and the "Hands" image on load. But I wish there was a way to also change the sound that loads when the Hand image plays (or in this case whatever image I've changed it to). It would be cool to have a computer voice of something like "Welcome back (Insert name here)!" or something similar.

Does anyone know of the location of the Boot up sound file? If you were to find it, simply overwriting it with another sound file with the same name should theoritically work, right?

It's a wav file. I replaced mine. The boot sequence pauses for the length of the wav file, so if you want to speed up your boot time, copy in a very short wav.

Can you please give me the location of the wav file so I can replace it? Thanks.

find / -name '*.wav' -print

works best as root

It is /usr/share/sounds/ui-wake_up_tune.wav

Cool, knowing what the new email wav file is now, I can create a file and replace it with that famous old AOL "You've got mail!". Haha that would be cool.

Or... "echo > /usr/share/sounds/ui-wake_up_tune.wav" and save 360k of memory and 4 seconds of boot time. Sweet...

Ok, I modified my Startup, Shutdown, and New Email sounds files. The Shutdown and New Email files are great. But the Startup file is very low. On my computer, it's loud. But on the 770 it plays low. And the volume setting is set to max. Is there a way to modify the startup sound volume or something?

And my shutdown sound file is 2 seconds long. But it seems to cut off after 1.3 seconds? The image still is shown, but the sound is cut off before the 2 second sound file is finished?

Can anyone help?

It was the same. What's interesting is that sometimes my shutdown sound plays fully, and sometimes it cuts off. It's different every time. Can you solve the problem with my startup volume being really low?

Coolty 2006-04-27 21:33

i can't answer your problem about the low volume, but maybe chang the volume by 200% in sndrec32 or somthing of the sort.
about the sound cutting off, i assume it's like trying to play a wav file on a windows computer, and then unplugging the power cord before it's done playing.
Same concept, just the shutdown times are different.
