Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
Wow- I really like how that browser looks... Is that what we can expect to see in Diablo?

5.9 times faster than MicroB is something I'd like to see on our IT. I will install the current version tonight just to give it a try http://people.mozilla.org/~vladimir/fennec.install |
Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
I'd just like to see a browser that scrolls properly. Kinetic or otherwise. The scrolling in microb has always left much to be desired. The speedier page loading would be nice too.

Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
It's exciting to see XUL come to Maemo.
And XULRunner, not just browser extensions. At last, some tools with which I already some experience! Roger And how about the October post, You say ‘browser,’ I say ‘development platform’? |

I installed Fennec on my N810. Firstly it took nearly 20 mins to download and then install. That's pretty slow. And couldnt even cancel out of it. After the install, the first start of the browser takes quite some time, so much that I though it had hung. (nearly a half minute). The browser looks good. There is no scrollbar though anywhere. Can't zoom using the zoom hardware buttons as yet. (that will be fixed in time I am sure). Kinetic scrolling works well on a site like goole search results. But on a heavier site (internettablettalk) it seems to falter totally. (in fact on 3rd try it crashed out). There seems to be no history selection tool. I have to type in the previous link again each time . At least, I didnt find the 5.6 time faster stats on my rough test. |

I'm liking this...

Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
The above mentioned install seems to install 2 versions of browsers.
1) Minefield - Titled Minefield 2) Fennec - titled Firefox Minefield looks like the full featured Firefox browser with sidebars etc and with no kinetic scrolling Fennec is the mobile version with kinetic scrolling. Is there a way I can only install Fennec - so as to limit the memory used up in installed 2 apps ? |
Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
Oddly enough, when I click on "Fennec" in the Extras after installing from the above link, nothing happens.
I've tried to remove minefield and fennec and reinstalled thru apt-get again. It all checks out. Minefield works, but Fennec doesn't. I don't even see a binary anywhere. Not in /usr/bin nor in /usr/local/fennec. Any clues? |

Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
its a developerr build nothing more nothing less. Any hopes anyone has of using this as a real browser are misplaced. From my experience I can clearly see there is a bright future for Firefox mobile.

Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
issue with the fennec not starting might be becuase of a duplicate minefield repo.
seems like the fennec repo has it own minefield deb. and when you install fennec it installs the minefield from the other minefield repo. if you have the minefield repo disable it. and only use vlads fennec repo. |
Re: maemo made it onto Ajaxian...
a few bugs are forgivable when it is lightyears ahead of the built-in browser
who needs scrollbars on a touchscreen device? |
