Stop N770 blogs using Google Analytics (without info)
 

I am really pissed about noticing, that some N770 blogs use Google Analytics without telling their visitors this.
This is not only a question of fairness, it is also //*edited.
I am sure most of them did this without evil intention.

In intention of making people sensible for privacy rights, I start posting the concerned blogs here and will delete the entries if fixed.
Feel free to add your N770-related sites you found.

(btw: I now prevent Analytics with my hosts-file.)

I don't understand. Why is this a problem?

I'm also curious why you don't like analytics since I use it on some of my sites.

I am surprised, and that you can't imagine what the problem about this is shows me how important it is to bring this up for discussion. I am in a hurry and will give more details tomorrow. (I hope that I am not the only one here with this point of view. PLEASE)

Haha. Well actually, ALL cpanel compatible servers have approximately 5-7 different visitor monitoring systems in place (similar to this). They tell you everything your visitors viewed, everything they did, where they come from, how they came from, their browser, IP's, EVERYTHING. So honestly, this isn't something that is new...

But if you are scared of this sort of thing, the internet just isnt for you.

Google Analytics doesn't tell the site owner anything they couldn't have worked out anyway. The question is whether or not it tells Google things they shouldn't know, and what they do with that information. If they do (or will in future) process that information to make you as a site visitor a more valuable ad viewer, does it bother you?

a) Millions of independent servers or
b) one company holding all this data

My mistake was that I assumed that Google refers to the Privacy Ploicy also in US like they do at the European versions.

I would like to keep the discussion objectively and find comments lik "lol" and "hahaha" not realy helpful.

This discussion is not about me and my privacy but about our society build up their columns on the foundation of the internet.

That people want to have their accesses analysed is understandable. Giving for that egoistig reason, dates about other people , their behavior including their ip address to a third party is another thing.
That here it is Google a financial enterprise that dominates the internet makes it now, however, critically.


Seen technical, what happens here?
A user with the IP of 60.265.221.247 walks through the internet. His page calls are going centrally to Google. Together with other Accounts that the user has at Google (GMail, webmaster tools...) Google also has all relevant dates to this ip (like telephone, address...)

What do we know now?
Mr Meyer wrote yesterday at 10:00 three emails to Jimmy@comopany.com. The precise address and
personal dates and other stuff about Jimmy is also at the Gmailserver. The contents of the three emails are "....".
For the mails Mr Meyer copied the text from a word document, that he downloaded the day before yesterday (Thanks to Goole Desktopsearch the document is indexed already at the Google Server). After that
Mr Meyer paused 10 minutes and then he searched for the term "abc". After that he visitet the first three hit pages. There he has...

That is the state how it is at the moment. No bad intention, nothing illegal, no vision.



What means this, however, now politically, professionally or privately for us?

political:
How easy could political opponents be controlled if one accesses that.
The possibility is already today regularly given (US), even without judicial decision.


professional:
a) Herr Meyer is interested in one of our competitor companies?...
b) Frau Hofer books a luxury journey? We pay her presumably too much...
c) We want to fire Mr Klaus. Lets see if we find a blogenentry where he wrote something critically against our enterprise...
d) Herr Klein surfs on gaypages? Can we realy have a homo in our serious company?...
d) Frau Schmidt from the accounting visits in last time frequently baby pages? Could it be that she is pregnant? As long as she has not told us we are able to fire her...

private:
"The thoughts are free..."
Most internet users did not really know, that with every click, that they make it is not simply a thought they follow but a public statement. Evaluated, analyzes and controlled.



for google self:It is not a question of that primarily for me. I leave this free because Googles guiding principle is "Don't be evil" and "Don't be illegal"... (let us believe this for now ;-))
Interesting is that Google itself is kind of more complicated with his own privacy. That would be, however a own topic and I dont want to evaluate Google here in that case.




In case of data acquisition you can't make it undone.
For this reason we must be in fact very carefully and can't just try to see how it works.

Btw, there is an other way to collect the data through the Patriot Act.
Without judicial resolution. Cause it is forbidden for the companys to talk about that if it happens we would never be informed about that.

And, laws could be changed too...

I dont wannt to say they will misuse this, but that all is a bit risky.
