Cingular Bluetooth Phones To Pair
Ive seen a list of phones that can pair with the 770 but with hundreds of phones out there it cant possibly be an all encompassing list. Does anyone have any experience trying to pair any of these phones with the 770?
Motorola V557 Samsung D357 Sony Ericcson Z520a Also, whats the difference between file sharing and dial up networking? Does the latter require a dial up ISP or will EDGE access qualify? |
Motorola Razr works great
via bluetooth, file sharing works great.
also via bluetooth, GPRS works great (internet connection) certainly anywhere in the bay area- I stream shoutcast radio on the 770 thru my car stereo mp3 jack... Internet via GPRS on cingular is cheap (19.95 a month) and SLOW. Kinda reminds me of 56k speeds, but I 'aint complaining! :D You can't file share WHILE connected to GPRS, though....one at a time... Is there anything faster than GPRS ? I mean in the usa, california area :P
|
So nobody else out there uses any of these phones listed?
I think Id like the Nokia 6682 but $199 is a bit high for that phone and its options. |
I have the v551 which is the predecessor to the v557 with no problems.

i can pair and use media net on my z520a

I pair...
I pair great with my Samsung SPH-A940 2 Mpxl camera phone. It's speed is very fast, and though I don't have the no's, I'd say it's at least a home DSL speed (256k)...
How to get my 770 to see the phones stored photos, however, seems to anyone's guess, I just can't figure that out yet, heh. Cheers, mates! |
I use a Motorola V330. Getting it to pair the first time is a pain in the butt, usually takes 4 or 5 tries, but after that it never really has a problem (though occasionally I need to either reboot the phone or cycle BT on the phone, but then I never turn my phone off which motorola says you should do once a day).

I had posted this yesterday on the USA Firmware Upgrade Thread. It seemed rather relative, so I hope no one mines if I copy/paste over here. Some of this info may help Mike out in his selection. The one thing I must state, that from what I have seen the Bluetooth setup on this NOKIA 770 is VERY VERY picky and tempermental. I would not buy a phone, especially if using the 770 with it is a big concern, unless I had my POad right there and was able to Pair it, and pair it easily. I would also make sure, if important, it has more then just the ability to provide access to the internet. The ability to transfer files back and forth, while maybe not important now, may be a need later when it is too late.
Excerpt from last nite: What version RAZR are you trying to pair? (Directed at another poster) I have had a kinda "pairathon" the last few days, and the one phone that I had zero issues the GSM V3 from Cingular (Unlocked) Also, I noticed many had said the Moto v551 was no problem, I did have issues. What finally did, when it said that it failed during the 'Service Discovery Failed" sequence. When that happened I just went back to the Moto V551 and initiated 60 sec of Discovery and kept trying, eventually it takes. I have done several times like this with total sucsess. I dont want to thread jack so u can email or we can start another thread. (Whatever this forum prefers, Im OK to stay here as well) I will close with saying that while I do like my new toy, the Bluetooth is really a dissapointment, across the board. Phones I tried to Pair for the record: TREO 650 GSM Originally Cingular, now Flashed to latest Unbranded FW- Multiple Attempts and failures. I also tried the tricks within this forum, including playing with Dial Up Networking ckbox, to no avail Moto v330 TMO Branded, Subsidy Unlock, No problem pairing, connected at EDGE speeds Moto v551 -Cingular Branded, Subsidy Unlocked, issues pairing as dioscussed above, now is paired and connecting at EDGE speeds (165kbps) The big , known, disapointments: Cingular 2125(similar to TMOBILE's SDA w/out the WiFi) Subsidy Unlocked, will say that it paired on the NOKIA, but does not work due to the Discovery of Services issue HTC MDA, TMOBILE Branded, same issues as above with as Cingular 2125, says paired but has the same Discovery of Services issues. I would say that this Bluetooth pairing issue was truely a dissapointment. Sure I have the TREO 650 and the MDA and 2125, but as the Gadget man, I mentally need them ALL TO WORK, LOL. I hope the next release gets it EDIT: Also, if anyone wishes to verify the speed that they are connected at, point your phobes browser to http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed and do the Online Speed test. Also, I see many people discussing GPRS /EDGE and paying more for EDGE and how do I get it etc. EDGE is simply the next generation of GPRS. Both CINGULAR and TMOBILE offer EDGE now in the majority of its markets. If your phone is EDGE compatible, then whatever Internet Access plan you have, you will get the EDGE speeds. You will not need to pay more or make any arrangements with your acrrier. If your phone is EDGE capable, and EDGE is deployed, then you will get EDGE, just that simple. Now, you will also need to realize that there are different levels of EDGE capability (CLASSES) so if you have a more inexpensive or older phone, do not be surprised if your buddy is getting 165 kbps and you are getting 62 kbps standing right next to him. So make sure that you are getting a Class 10 EDGE device iof money and equipment availability permits it. |
Thanks for the replies everyone. On a whim I pulled out an old Siemens with BT. Worked like a Charm with GPRS.
Did the Z520a pair with file sharing as well? |
if you mean if i can transfer files between the two, yes. but with only 16megs on the phone you cant put much.
if your meaning if i can access the phones software, no. you can use the phones gprs to access the web on the nokia 770 but its not that fast. havent used it much, just enough to see if it works. it works good enough if your in a bind and you cant connect thru wifi, but i would not reccomend it if its going to be your primary means of surfing |
My moto Slivr and Sony Ericsson T637 pair flawlessly. Wish the connection were a bit speedier. No file transfer with the Moto though.
Also, a bit redundant, my HTC 8125 PPC smartphone pairs well too (an with a faster connecton). The 770 has a much better online expeience though. |
