Shocking development: Guess who's on US TV!

I just saw a T-Mobile TV ad promoting 3 phones from a certain Finnish manufacturer.

I am still recovering from the shock.

Sigh, you Americans and your odd phone standards :p

Quadband, CDMA (although unfair to say US only) etc. Hehe in the UK and rest of Europe, not so shocking :p

Quadband??? That's not an American thing; we use two bands (850 & 1900), you use two bands (900 & 1800). You wanna work on all of them, you use a quadband phone. You wanna work in Europe etc., use a dualband 900/1800. You wanna work in the US, use a dualband 850/1900.

It's the evil multinational corporations that need quadband...

Yes, but because of America, for our phones to work there, we need to have quadband :P. And that's only to use T-Mobile & AT&T.

CDMA is odd :p

Marconi was Canadian? Or was he an even-more-evil traveling agent employee of some evil multinational?

No one is really Canadian. It's like a virtual membership to some countercultural geek club. And who would admit to such a thing, anyway?

Dem's fightin words. :)

Like many Italian heritage folks living in Woodbridge (burb in Toronto) for many generations, indeed, they claim to be Italians instead of Canucks. Unless until of course the Jays beat Atlanta, again.

Welcome to Canuckistan, pioneers in wireless communications so we'll just leave it at that for another hundred years.

Then there are the Vestur Íslendingar (West Icelanders) still out west.

two cans and a string works as well as a cell phone up here. data you say? hahahaha. Where's my WiMAX//......

I probably should not support German Providers, but since 1 1/2 year I buy prepaid sim cards from your TV commercial guys for I think 10 $ / 30 minutes on arrival in Dulles Ap.(T-mobile shop) . Enough for a short stay and supports US GSM networks. (AT&T and others. Works even in London NC.)

Just a quick count of cell phones T-mobile offers on their web site today:
- Nokia: 9
- BlackBerry: 11
- Motorola: 10
- Samsung: 10

There are some "T-mobile branded" phones as well... but I didn't count those.

Overall Nokia is fairly evenly represented there based on model count. Only that all Nokia's are "free" and BlackBerries the most expensive...

No Nokia premium (N or E series) phones are there.

I just shovelled a snot-load of snow this morning, and am feeling particularly countercultural (and deprived of shiny-phone purchasing opportunities..)

If the measure is anything like my Springtime snots, that's a LOT of snow!

My sympathies, Canuck brother. :D

Bring some of that snot over here. I've got a bet going that despite the +10-+20C we're having this week I say we get one more big'un. I win the last snow of the year bet every year... It took me 15 hours to pump the snow melt off the pool cover. Lot's of fluffy stuff this past winter.

Shiny phones? When Nokia makes a rotary dial cell phone I'll buy it. Or until the cell providers up here wake up and notice that the rest of the world has moved way beyond what we romantically call a cell phone network. Gee, I know a tiny country with a total population of 300K that has a better and cheaper system than here.

Tablets R Us.

Sorry, but as italian abroad, I feel more patriottic than I used to be and at the moment it feels better to think about the past, ignoring the present :-)
