Hex-a-hop build available
1 Attachment(s)
Hex-a-hop is a cartoony, animated, no time limit strategy game that is very well done, however there is no sound or music (on any platform).
Update 7/15/2008 : Yerga has done a build of this for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008 and published it/them to maemo extras. Chances are future users of this game will see it available in App Manager before finding it here, so use that. You can also get his version at the maemo.org download page (with 1-click installs). This is the recommended method for install (uses maemo-extras) : http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/hex-a-hop/ I will continue to offer my build here (deb download) so that (like NASA) you have a redundant source for aquiring hex-a-hop technology (not for use in nuclear facilities or hospital environments) : http://wardenclyffetower.com/MaemoFi...-1.0.0.all.deb Project info here (although i had to grab sources from debian archive) : http://happypenguin.org/show?Hex-a-hop Video of psp port here (plays and looks pretty much the same except maemo runs at higher 640x480 and sounds like psp hacked sounds into it) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlpDRT3UoHU |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Very good puzzle :)
EDIT: Works in 2007HE, somewhat slower, but the jumping animation skips on the next click, so overall the game plays fast anyway. Also works in 2008HE, i think a little faster than 2007HE, but maybe my imagination is playing tricks on me :) |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Thx good to hear... simple 1 package fits all :)
I updated the game/installer so that fullscreen hardware button is bound to 'Undo' so if you installed already and want multiple undo moves functionality, upgrade by installing download again (dont uninstall if you want to keep progress). |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
It's all broken!!! There's no sound!!!
;) Seriously, installed fine and works great (albeit a bit slow) on my 770 w/ OS2006!! Thanks, great port! desiv |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
I am addicted to this game, it is awesome.

Re: Hex-a-hop build available
The author did a great job. Erm except for no sound or music... tank u desiv ;).
Maybe i will see if its easy to 'lift' the sounds from the psp build :) |

Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Anybody found out how to quit this game without rebooting? :-)
|
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Yeah, just go to the quit option on the menu :P

Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Hey great game....but no sounds! ...... j/k
Thanks pipeline!!! |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
This game is very cool! An it would be better if it was in the extras repository (or at least share the modified source code).
|
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
IIRC I didnt have to do anything special. I did have to get the source from debian repo so that would be good baseline.
I dont really have time to work on this so if someone else wanted to do that... or their own version (maybe with sounds? ;) ) then I think many of us would appreciate. I did (just) upload the source to my web space, however i don't think i did that much to it... since I probably wont be helping that much it might be just as good to use debian sources (or bins) as baseline. |

I was this evening, building and uploading it to extras-devel. I took the debian sources but added your modifications (the size, key bindings, etc.). I am starting to do some C coding, so I could see if I can add sound to it. |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Sounds great... thanks :)
I never did find the psp homebrew version (which apparently had nice sounds)... i got caught in some recursive circle of links to download it... but that would be easiest to use existing sounds (if you can find it). Once it shows up in repo i'll update first post to reflect that as primary method for install, and i will remove it from my repo, but will keep the direct deb download since some may want to archive. Or if you have a deb i can link to i'll reference that too so that the packages are the same. |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
This is GREAT. I love the animations and the gameplay. Thanks so much!

Re: Hex-a-hop build available
The only downside is the 100% CPU, probably due to the water animation. Can it be disabled?

I think i saw it in a repo somewhere. http://austinche.name/maemo/chinook/ |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
The packages are all in the extras repository now. I passed the evening testing it in every device and in every OS, even in OS2007HE. And it works in all.
Added pages in downloads.maemo.org, and I took the freedom of adding to pipeline as co-author ;) The downloads page is here for OS2008: http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/hex-a-hop/ It has links to its pages for OS2007 and OS2008. |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Great, thanks :) I did not do anything special with the port so feel free to take full credit... thanks for the gesture though.
I have updated first post to link to the hex-a-hop project page you linked as the preferred method for install. I've also removed it from my repo to avoid potential confusion. Thanks! No doubt many more people will be able to find and play it because of your efforts. I'm not sure about the .mod file format, perhaps you can install the package called 'file' to see if it can detect its type (it is a file type guesser). I have a build on my repo and i think free has a build in his. Or run 'file' on desktop from x86 linux repo. -- Or wait it might be this Amiga audio format which maemo probably does not have a package to support. |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
I don't think you should waste time with sound effects.
|
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
@pipeline:
.mod, .xm, .s3m are sampled module formats. For instance Star Control 2 used mods at the time. No need for file. Your URL is right :) Libmikmod supports it. |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Having been playing this game for about a year on my Sony Ericsson P1 it's great to see it transferred to the big screen! Many thanks.
There's no sound onthe P1 either but I must say I don't miss it. What would you get? A cute jingle that soon became annoying and you switched off plus the clip clop of her feet :) |
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Great game, works awesome on my N810!
|
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
where are the stored games stored? I'm considering redoing my SD card and don't relish loosing my progress on the game. Where and what files should I back up so that when I get my shiney new SD Boot going, I can continue where I left off in the game?
|
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
There's a directory .hex-a-hop in your home directory (note leading dot), with a file 'save1.dat' (at least on my system). That's probably the thing.
|
Re: Hex-a-hop build available
Thanks for porting, what a great game!
I'm having trouble with arcade games because of the d-pad on the n810, but this one is just right! |
