Problem with omeather?

What's up with omweather the last few days? It appears to update successfully, but then the error message "Invalid station code" appears and the weather display remains all ????. My 3 cities are the same as always, but I tried deleting and re-adding them - no change.

Re: Problem with omeather?

same problem here, but I also got an email from weather.com that (regarding a website I used to manage) the api's are changing and that I need to update my applications... Where does omweather gets it's weather feed?

Same for me. Also some apps don't work properly. Problems if I try to reinstall or update. Help!

Well, search the forums, but the weather info source site changed it's feed.

Re: Problem with omeather?

There is a current thread Here on this subject giving the cause and fix for this.

Re: Problem with omeather?

Ok, so it is a known problem with a known fix that has to be coded in the application, and we can either:

a) Find and install the current version 20.1, then download and install Wolf's temporary patch for 20.1

or

b) Wait for the author to return from vacation and update the app.

rscasas 2008-05-12 09:22

Re: Problem with omeather?

Ok, Wolf's temporary patch works for me too.

Re: Problem with omeather?

The official update has been posted yesterday (thanks to a tip from another thread). Just do a regular update with application manager.

Re: Problem with omeather?

Um NOT ! I just did the "update" by way of the app. mgr and after a half doz reboots because Omweather puts a gigantic white box on my screen and you are then un-able to do anything other then endless reboots until you are quick enough to un-check OMW in the applets settings.

So now what ??

Tabster 2008-05-12 14:29

Re: Problem with omeather?

the update to 0.20.2 worked fine for me. everything is back to normal :)

Mara 2008-05-12 14:44

Re: Problem with omeather?

I couldn't "Check for updates" my OMWeather, but had to uninstall the old one first and then the updated version showed up in Application Manager... Now it is working fine.

tuco penguin 2008-05-12 16:56

Re: Problem with omeather?

FWIW, I did the 0.20.2 update this morning and am glad to have the weather back on my desktop. Thanks to the authors for this app and for fixing it when weather.com changed their protocols!

Re: Problem with omeather?

I updated 20.2 and rebooted, and nothing, still nothing.... then I uninstalled completely rebooted/ re-installed 20.2, and the same thing, nothing... all n/a

khalid 2008-05-12 17:48

Re: Problem with omeather?

Updated to 0.20.2. No problems with update. It updated weather info just fine after a reboot. One thing I noticed is that now it can fetch weather info for next 5 days only as opposed to 10 days it used to do earlier.

I have this exact same problem - my N800 is a brick, because every time I reboot (even a battery-out reboot), I get this White Box and I cannot do anything else.

Did you find a solution? Or was the solution what you suggested (keep rebooting until you can uncheck the applet)? I have tried this but have never been quick enough.

Any help appreciated, before I have to do a hard reset and go through the pain of reloading all my applications.

No, don't do that! Here's what you do: (BTW, not my original idea, read it here on ITT)

1. Boot normally.
2. As soon as the normal screen appears, you have about 10-15 seconds to do the following:

a. click "Home"
b. click "Select applets..."
c. find and uncheck OMWeather.

3. Uninstall OMWeather.
4. Reboot.
5. Install new OMWeather.
6. Reboot
7 Profit!

Re: Problem with omeather?

the latest version of omweather worked fine for me. i was using 1.9 and it wasnt refreshing so i checked for updates in app manager and there was 2.0.2. it worked immediatky after updating. try checking your stations to see if you have in the riight info. if it doesnt work set up a custom station in settings

Many thanks for the suggestion.

Sadly I don't seem to get anything like 10-15 seconds; 2 or 3 seconds is more like it. I can click on "Home", get the drop down menu, and click on "Select Applets..." but before anything is displayed, the big White OMWeather Window Of Death takes over and my N800 is frozen. I have tried about 10 times now (both switching off and removing the battery) but the same thing happens every time.

Any further suggestions? I really, really don't want to have to do a hard reset.

Re: Problem with omeather?

I did the update and everything is fine. Probably worth going to the main omweather thread.

TTgowings 2008-05-12 21:26

Re: Problem with omeather?

I've yet to re-install it after my problems with the reboot thing, from the sounds of it Gabba, you gotta be quick and as soon as the desktop is shown you gotta click the applets setting, took me at least 6x to get it on mine.

Re: Problem with omeather?

When I downloaded omweather_0.20.2_armel.deb it will not install from application manager nor as update from application manager, however, when I use apt-get

Nokia-N810-51-3:~# apt-get install omweather_0.20.2_armel

it runs until the end and then states:

cat: write error: No space left on device....

however, a message shows "reboot" on the home screen...when I did reboot everything is now working....:D

Do you have open ssh installed? I wonder if you can ssh into your tablet, then apt-get remove omweather? Just a thought. (Take my syntax with a grain of salt... if you are new to ssh or apt-get, I would suggest some more research before trying this.) Good luck!

Re: Problem with omeather?

Just switch to the other thread, think carefully about the ten pages of messages, and the answer is obvious, what's wrong with y'all!

I just uninstalled Omweather and found the very latest deb file for os2008 on the Maemo site and installed it, and all my problems were over. I don't know if that works for everyone. The stuff about acting within 10-15 seconds mentioned by deeteroderdas didn't occur to me, and I don't think I did that.

Re: Problem with omeather?

Uninstalling omweather and then re-installing version 20.2 from the "available apps" list worked fine for me. I'm happy to have my weather back!

The problem was/is the fact that as soon as you booted, you got a big white window at the front and you could do nothing else except bring up the power button menu...

With that window there, all other stylus inputs were being blocked.

It would be nice if Maemo/Hildon had a "close" button in the upper right corner of every window.

I have exactly the same problem. How do you do a hard reset?

By the way, am I the only one who finds that navy on black is almost unreadable? I find light blue on black bad enough, or can I change the background and text on these forums?

Look at the bottom left side of this page. You may see something like --n810 v2
Scroll to Classic, you may like it better.

Re: Problem with omWeather?

I am still on version 2.0.2 because of all the chats below about the 'window of death' (many of you must be kids) and did not upgrade to 2.0.4. which is avaialable in my update manager (N800/OS2008 - latest).

2.0.2. works fine with me, however at some time upgrading is logical.

Can somebody advise me if safe upgrading to 2.0.4 is now possible ?

Thanks, Abel.
