If by some chance you post an app and the link breaks, don't be a prick. Go back and edit your page to provide the proper link. That way when people stumble across your post and it has some 100+ posts on it, they don't have to go and wade through all that **** to find the link.

Got an app with an "odd" dependency, Don't be a prick and tell people to search through 100+ posts to find that one link. How about you post that link right there with your app? Hard? I think not.

If you feel the need to comment on someone pointing out that a link is broken, don't be a prick. Shut the **** up.

What? I can't be on all the time. . . .

I could turn this into an iPhone thread if you wanted, though. (typed from one. Significantly slower on itT than my N800. Keyboard lag and general UI malaise make me want to kill myself . . . You guys don't know what a blessing that dpad is. Dpad != road <_<)

More on topic, yes, less-than-diligent first-post management is one of my pet peeves in forums.

What's frustrating is how many people credit the iPhone for things it didn't invent. It wasn't even the first phone to use that browser, Nokia's S60 uses the same webkit rendering engine and it was available over a year before the iPhone was announced. Many supposedly iPhone-only sites work on the S60 browser, and they'll probably all work when Nokia starts releasing touchscreen S60 models.

No doubt when the iPhone gets Flash support many commentators will claim this is a first too, even though S60's browser already had Flash support at the beginning of 2007. The latest version of the S60 browser even supports Flash video sites like YouTube without any separate applications required.

S60 phones aren't obscure pieces of technology either, they sell tens of millions every year.

It's almost as frustrating as people who think Blackberry invented mobile e-mail.

Ha. Funny thread. While I agree with the sentiments expressed in the O/P, the story behind the post is deeply ironic.

The O/P is referring to this thread about getting VLC working, specifically this post.

Ironically, the thread that triggered it all is actually a very poor example of the "prick" behavior sondjata is complaining about. In fact, when the details are examined, it could possibly make... um.. someone else look a bit of a fool. :o

The VLC thread-starter, bdogg64, the guy who posted links to the files, has not participated in these forums for months. He therefore is not around to update his original post. In fact, the links on his post have been dead for a long time.

Some unrelated folks who are interested in getting VLC working picked up the ball recently and, one thing lead to another and a very helpful guy posted a link to a new version on page 7 or 8 of the thread. This version is pretty experimental and not really working in the sense that you can use it for video playback. It was specifically hacked to stream video from the camera over the Internet (which, by the way, is very exciting for me).

This is all important context, because the VLC being discussed currently in that thread is unrelated to the VLC at the beginning of the thread, and it is fairly obvious when reading the posts on the last few pages that this isn't the same VLC and it isn't for general consumption.

Perhaps we should have moved our conversation to another, new thread, with a new title and lots of warnings and context to let people know what was going on. But I personally think the "search the thread, I'm not going to give you the link" comment that generated this outburst was not entirely off-base in this case. Some reading and research should have been done here.

I also think that starting a thread with this title is somewhat inappropriate.

Depends. Is an M60 a new DSLR from Nikon? That would definitely raise intelligence while shooting up the neighborhood, especially if you tried new angles and exposure settings.

EDIT: Hm, I could see it raising other things if you used the zoom lens to peek into bedroom windows. Different exposures indeed.

And the iPhone sucks.

Me? Personally, I'd pick an RPD in the same class, but probably something lighter like an M14 or G3 if not. :p

very true.. sometimes its not about what is wanted but what is needed in a given situation im no tactician but if a given situation calls for some heavy infrantry,well there ya go.... but for stealth and speed...smaller arms will work well....(m16 a2,mp40,etc...)

lol, the last time i have eaten at a mcdonalds was at least 5 years ago.
I've never eaten at a:
KFC
Burger King
Mr. Chicken
Wendys
Arbys
white castle
etc.
I'm vegetarian so these places really don't appeal to me. plus i don't wanna eat fries soaked in beef tallow. The only place i can eat peacefull is subway and i have ALWAYS ordered the veggie delite. for my 14th birthday, my mom took me to subway! :p

I have an iphone, and I like McDonalds.

I think the Iphone is a pretty great device, the fanboys can be a bit overbearing (as they are on any device), and it works better at what I need it to do (phone items, portable personal mp3 player, quick search) than my N800. They co-exist well because I don't try to make my N800 be my iphone and vice versa.

I like McDonalds because I can get a quick snack / meal very very quickly and conveniently (the only chain more plentiful around the area would be starbucks). I don't try to make McDonalds an every meal occurrence, but it works very well with the constraints i have created for it.

What I actually find funny about this thread is that the same people that have constantly moaned and complained about iphone/touch threads in the competitors section (where they would naturally go) create an iphone/touch bashing hijack thread in a general section. Of course, that's not a cause for frustration, dismay, and despair because it's a collection of the usual suspects.. so everything is just fine.
