Warning: Their database can't find you for download if you use a gmail address with +addressing. (With GMail, if your email is username@gmail.com, you can give sites username+tag@gmail.com, allowing easy filtering and recognition of anyone who sells your email...) I learned this last time with the original release, and rediscovered it now.

They will, however, send you duplicate copies of the updates...

(Also, wouldn't it be nice if they looked at their EULA on an N800? It wouldn't be hard to make just the download pages fit in 800px...)

Some apps I would like to know if it's working:

1. SlingPlayer
2. DateBk6
3. Documents To Go Suite

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

well i han't really tested any apps yet but the full screen makes it not only more usable but awsome. Even tough there are like 50 pixels at the top not being used it alot better

Benson 2008-05-29 23:55

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

I think there's 80 pixels; the 1.5x scaleup gives 320x480 -> 480x720 -> 720x480

But, yes, it's better. I think I got the first screenshots of full-screen mode, over in the screenshot thread..

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

Preliminary results:

I just downloaded and installed Garent VM 2 on my N800.

First strike: I got an error but it seems the new version works just fine, so don't curse before you try it ;) What is really bad is that t doesn't recognize your previous GVM installation at all so that means you'll need to HotSync again to get Notes, Calendar and Addressbook again. Very uncomfortable but I was willing to put up with this based on the performance of the new version.

Which I am very happy to say is a MARKED improvement over the first :)

2 Essential pieces of software for me now work flawlessly:

SmartLists to Go (I know this will make a lot of people happy)
PalmaryClock

That's all I've been able to try without Hotsyncing so far. The Full Portrait view is really nice. I will keep posting as I try more Palm software. The Access page said PocketTunes is now supported and I really have to see that working in my N800.

Good luck

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

NO error message after hotsync!
and for a change, it hotsync address, DateBook, To Do List. Now it is a real PIM and of course, it is full screen too. I am installing epocrates, a drug book........... either you can sell drugs on the street or check out how much your MD does not know. It takes 11 minutes........

Edit: Epocrates is up and running.
Edit: GoogleMaps Mobile, full screen, up and running. And is eye blinking fast now (compare to the old version of snail loading), and I am looking at my 'mansion' via satellite.

Ptunes does not install. It installed before(previous beta) but didn't run. They still list it as an application that is compatible, so I'm not sure what compatible means. Not much I guess.

Still trying.. I think I made a mistake....

Is there any way of making portrait mode work in reverse? The way it works on the N800 is annoying because of the bump, it fits better in my hand in the other direction.

I don't think you can. I think they chose that direction so you can use your nav keys similar to a regular palm device.

If you have an x server with rotation support, you can rotate using "xrandr -o inverted"

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

It also works on 770 running 2008He. It takes forever to load, but it loads eventually. And after it loads, it runs very fast in the palmOS and, best of all, it also hotsync with address, To Do List and Date Book.

Edit: 2nd time load is fast....
Edit: You got to be kidding, GoogleMaps Mobile installed without a glitch on 770/2008He and runs just as fast as on N8x0. Wow! GVM runs very smooth and fast on 770/2008He, I would called it the no.1 apps on the 770/2008He platform. Now I have 2 big favorite apps running on the 2008He, MaemoMapper and GVM and "shared folders", and it breaths new life to my 770.

Now, I have A problem....if I just use the 770/2008He as a palm, I see NO difference between the 770, N800, N810. Does that imply I will soon surrender my N810 to the CEO of my house, my wife? Wow, I love GVM on 770!

I seem to have a Big problem. I hotsynced and now I have lost the use of Garnet gvm. So I uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Garnet is gone and all I get is the message Can't connect to GVM error 0x300400000. Does anyone know whats wrong or what I can do?

No book reader running at less than 800x480 is worth discussing.

Reboot. You are running several versions of GVM simultaneously.

I presume you reformatted the storage file? Try going into /usr/bin/gvm/gvm.conf and changing the device ID. Just comment out the gvm_ one

You can check in here for a whole list: https://pdnet.palm.com/regac/pdn/Pal...8h-source.html

I used H103 before and it seemed to work.

Funny:
This new beta version is set to expire in 2 days, May 31, 2008. Is this a joke?

The full portrait res is nice and the added ToDo is a plus. BUT syncing still does not work.

I also hotsynced for the first time with my existing Palm TX setup which has loads of apps and data. It errored out and when I looked at the log it said the device might be full. Since I kept all my apps and data on the internal memory of the Palm (128mb if I remember correctly) the N810 should easily be able to hold them all.

In my case I could still use Garnet but none of my Palm apps showed up.

Did you look at the log of your sync?

Anyome know where the installed Palm apps are stored on the N810?

Start Garnet. (Don't start an application)
Settings button (bottom right)
Display: Start Mode: Portrait fullscreen

Hotsync works perfectly without a glitch on 770/2008He, N800/2008OS, N810/2008OS. It sync address, ToDo, Datebook.

I just installed an old version of PAC-MAN and running full screen, on my 770/2008He. It works like a champ! Anybody interested in a copy, just PM me. Yup, the original PAC-MAN.

Somebody asked how to get into full screen mode. Settings>Start mode: pick Landscape fullscreen and Save. Now run your apps, it will start on fullscreen mode.

64MB seems to be max limit which you select in Settings. I installed a Palm program FIlemanager to double check this and it showed 64MB RAM total.

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

I don't think anyone mentioned, but the fullscreen button cycles through the three display modes at runtime... (Of course the setting is more helpful than switching each time.)

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

GoogleMaps Mobile works well on 770/2008He, N800/2008OS and N810/2008OS, includes routing/POIs. I just dl a route from NY to LA, it takes seconds.

And I have been playing with it for hours, so far, there is NO crashes, yet. Much more stable than the previous version

Hostfs.prc doesn't work.
64MB is so small.
installing 15,000+ apps is not possible. ;)
maybe 10 max.
so people at garnet i beg of you to add hostFS support to the final release, which by my calculations should be on the 1st., (My calculations is based on the 31st. expiration date).

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

I downloaded this last night. I tried to play one of the games that did
work with previous version of GVM. Astraware's Titanic. It will no longer launch
into the game. Also I have noticed that after hotsync the GVM will not store
an ID name for the device. I have tried many times to get it to stay.
Such as, Core Player will ask for a serial number. Since the GVM (does not-
store an ID name) I cannot put in my serial number. I have noticed this with
a few other apps. Fullscreen is nice, though it does seem to run just a tad
slower than when not in fullscreen? (not sure if anyone else notice this)
Will get some more random testing of free apps done later and report
what happens.

Edit: Also they did not include a way to view the SD cards on the nokia.
I am very sad about that, would have taken this over fullscreen support....

Re: Access Releases Garnet VM Beta 2

Works for me! Full size screen, oriented like a Palm, the addition of the To Do List, and the ability to store (through Xterm, with /usr/bin/gvm/gvm --hotsyncid="Sync Name") the ID info. A winner!
