Fonts

Ok...I searched first, but couldn't find anything directly connected to what I require so here goes:

I saw on the "screenshots" thread that somebody had the LargeStatusBarClock in a nice red LCD font. I found the fonts selection in the options but alas - the LCD font aint there.

Obviously I can find it online along with many others - but how do I stick it onto my tablet? I have a N810 by the way.

Are certain fonts not supported? True-type etc etc?

Thanks for your help - this forum is awesome for learning new stuff.

Did you try this?

Re: Fonts

I think you need to run fc-cache after copying the fonts in...

Thanks for your help -

Does 0s2008 only support Unicode?
I'm relatively new to Linux, sorry if this is dumb.

Re: Fonts

Does OS2008 "only support Unicode?" Could you explain what alternatives you're considering?

Re: Fonts

Truetype?

Or am I getting confused here.
Is TT a type or Unicode?

I understand if you no longer want to help!

Re: Fonts

Unicode is a character encoding (actually, it's a codespace used in a family of character encodings; that's what clued me in that you weren't asking quite what you meant to ask...), TrueType is a font format; alternatives include Type 1 and OpenType.

It works just fine with TT. :D

Re: Fonts

So to recap:
-----
From xterm create a directory in your home called '.fonts':
Code:

$ mkdir ~/.fonts

And copy your font(s) there. They should be available for use immediately.
----
I put my Unicode or TT fonts in this new directory, run "fc-cache" after that and i'm good to go?

Thank you

Re: Fonts

I think so; it was a while since I've done it, but just try it and see if it works.

Re: Fonts

Hi....I got the directory made...put the "LED.ttf" file in there and ran fc-cache....but still can't see the font in any program.

I read Linux doesn't "do" file extensions...should I rename my font to just "LED"?

Good way to learn the Xterm commands....
I found:
http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand...._the_shell.php
..to be very useful for learning navigation, manipulation commands from scratch.

Anyway....any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Fonts

Ah-ha! You gits! i figured it out myself:

My font file file: "LED.ttf"

1) Moved it to /usr/share/fonts/nokia (where i had spied other fonts)
2) Ran fc-cache in Xterm
3) Ran fc-list to confirm it saw the LED.ttf file
4) rebooted and hey presto.

Techniques used/learned:

1) You need root. So get easy root or whatever.
2) To move file about in Xterm:
"mv LED.ttf /usr/share/fonts/nokia" (case sensitive....i think)
3) Also handy....list folder contents + hidden files = "ls -a"

All this just to get an LED font for my clock.
Out.

(Seriously though....thanks for your help, wouldn't have been able to do it without the support of members on this forum!)
