[Canola] Importing OPML files ?
Hi,
With latest nokia firmware I have decided to give another try to canola2. I installed it and all its plugins. Now I need to know how I can import my current podcast list into canola. I have an OPML file ready for that but where can I add it ? Regards |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
as far as i know, you cannot import opml files in canola.
waiting for this for ages now... |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
Btw: gpodder can import opml files for podcast subscriptions, it can also export opml :)

Re: Importing OPML files ?
Yeah, I know that people hate when this happens, but we cannot do all the features at the same moment : / While we do think podcast is REALLY important and we have a lot of importance to it, we still facing problems with the scanner, we were fixing mp3 tagging problems..etc, so some small bits here and there get's "cut" from beta to beta.
We did support opml on canola1 : / we know how to do it as we want it's more time than anything else. I don't know if this helps but we can do a small python app for you that adds your opml file to the DB do you want? Marcelo Update: we are already doing this small app for those interested :) |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
yes, that sounds great. thank you.
especially if the up could just refresh the list of installed podcasts (following this usage pattern): - User has a master app to listen & subscribe - export from that app ALL podcasts when it's time to update the list on different devices (phone, tablet etc) I can beta test if needed. |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
Sounds good to me since importing an OPML file is a once-operation (when imported, my file will be trashed).
Thank you |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
Are there any news about this small & usefull app?
thanks |

hi sorry for the time out...
here goes the small script this is how you use it (unzip to a folder, open xterm and ) Usage: python ./getfeeds.py opmluri [dbfile] The default value for dbfile is "/home/user/.canola/canola.db" The uri is the location of you opml t make things easier put the script on the same folder and just give the opml file name there Let me know f any trouble@ BR Marcelo |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
hey,
great, I'm testing it right now - will let you know... but *trying not to sound ungrateful* :) can we have a reverse script ? export from canola to opml? thank you for your great work |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
Hi ice, yes, I will ask Marcelo *the author* not me, for it :)
let me know if this works.. and I will extend your compliments to Marcelo *the author* :) Marcelo |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
I realize I'm often a gigantic pain, but is there a possibility to have this added to Canola without having to bother with xterm? I.e., on the screen where you enter a podcast URL, a button that says 'import OPML' and you just browse to the file?
|
Re: Importing OPML files ?
rcadden yes, this was on the plans, but with lower priority. As the release cycles are longer we did the script just for those wanting it right now.
For the integrated version, the thing was how to do the "browse for file" widget. this kept this out from the beginning. : / so the problem is not only to import... is to do the browse file widget for canola. Br |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
Hey, this script doesn't work with the export that S60 Podcasting creates.
"Problems to process the feed from Podcasting.opml. Provide a valid url or opml file." Here's a snippet of the OPML: <opml> <head></head> <body> <outline text="You Look Nice Today" type="rss" url="http://feeds.feedburner.com/YouLookNiceToday"/> <outline text="WNYC's Radio Lab" type="rss" url="http://feeds.wnyc.org/radiolab"/> </body> </opml> I'm running the script in the same directory as the file as "python ./getfeeds.py Podcasting.opml" |
Re: Importing OPML files ?
Hi Namtastic :
Once we are done with this painful release (sic) We will update this script as well :) next : we need to integrate this feature on Canola :) Marcelo |
