Problem with N810 Singapore model upgrade to Diablo

Hi, i need some help

I'm trying to upgrade my N810 to Diablo using the "Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard" with the downloaded Diablo image file.

but it seems that my N810 is locked to the ISP version "2.2007.51-3.4Singtel"

The software wizard shows "unsupposted software update" after i choose the Diablo image file.

Is there anyway to upgrade to the Diablo version on my N810?

Thank you very much in advance :), i'm quite new in Maemo here.

If you have mplayer, when you run it, what version does it say that the Internet Tablet tablet is?

Interesting. It appears SingTel adds a mio Mobile desktop applet, custom wallpaper, and possibly other items.

I imagine your N810 is still within its 12-month contract period. To stay within the contract, you'll probably need to wait for an official update from SingTel.

/me strokes my beard

I wouldn't mind getting a dump of the rootfs using 0xFFFF for arm :/ but seeing as it would be a 256MB file to upload...

There's likely a way to do so using the Linux-based flasher, but I'll leave it to someone more knowledgeable than me to advise you on the way forward. I'd hate to steer you wrong and brick your tablet.

Try actually answering my question. Seeing actually as I have changed my version string, it may be beneficial to listen ;) :

Not in this case. Linux-based flasher only lets you set the hardware revision, not the software version. :)

I'm also curious as to what other changes might be lurking in the SingTel firmware.

I also have a Singtel Nokia N810. When I run mplayer, I get the following:

=====
Internet Tablet OS version: RX-34+RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.51-3.4.SINGTEL_PR_SIO
=====

What does it mean and is there a reason I have to use mplayer to get the version string?

Kam-Yung

What if you just start Xterm and
cat /etc/osso_software_version

Isn't it it the same string?
I don't know if you can just edit that file as root
to change that string to a "valid" one and flash your tablet os?
Probably not that simple.

Just a quick follow-up.

I have upgraded my N810 (Singtel) version to diablo using the linux version of the flasher. No problems encountered during the upgrade.

Of course, it is now a stock Diablo-based N810 with no Singtel 'enhancements'. But that does not bother me as I'm not a Singtel subscriber: I got my N810 'cheap' from somebody who was a subscriber.

Kam-Yung

Re: Problem with N810 Singapore model upgrade to Diablo

I forgot to mention: I did not backup application settings before the upgrade. This may prevent any Singtel specific apps from potentially causing problems when the N810 tries to do a restore.

I gave my N810 for repairing the touchscreen and the one they gave back had singtel. Flashed in Linux and it worked.

I also sent my N810 in for a screen repair and it came back with the singtel software. This is quite annoying!!! I am completely new to linux besides maemo on the n810 and am not quite sure I understand the directions for flashing in linux. Can anyone explain in laymans/simple terms for me...I am interested in learning more and in recovering full use of my tablet...
thanks

Can you give more information? At which step in the directions given did it become unclear to you?

Also, where did you get the directions for flashing from Linux? I believe there are a few web pages available and it is possible you may have been following the wrong or outdated instructions.

The 'official' version is at http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

hi there, I had the same problem upgrading the firmware on the N810 bought from Singtel. Please visit my thread http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=24019

I have upgraded and don't expect Singtel or Nokia to assist you. You will still end up with the old version.

Cheers!

will the warranty still be valid after flashing it with vanilla firmware?

Probably not, but who cares?

Anyway, if the Original N810 had vanilla firmware, then its should be fine to update the crappy one you got as a replacement.
