n810 through car speakers?

With the n810 how would i use it to listen to mp3 etc...through my car speakers? Or is that possible?

I was with a friend yesterday and he had a zune connected playing on his car speakers and I was wondering if that is even possible with the n810 and if so what do I need to get in order for it to happen

thanks

Eric

You can connect it any way you could connect any audio input. Cassette adapters are available for ~$10, FM transmitters maybe a little more, auxiliary input free, if your head unit has it.

It would be worth searching google to see if your head unit has aux input or if a cd chnager adaptor can be bought. These are usually about twice the price of a good FM transmitter, but would be worth the extra.

I have a griffin Itrip universal FM tx which is good, but I often get interference on busy roads or near radio masts. If you do go the FM tx route then I would recommend the Nokia FM TX http://europe.nokia.com/A4460119 as it has an additional lead for charging the tablet (or phone). I use a usb lead plugged into my griffin, and it is only good for trickle unlike the Nokia which will charge at full rate.

If you have an AD2P enabled car stereo like the Sony MEX-BT 2500 or some Alpine car stereos, you can connect your N810 via Bluetooth (search the forums for AD2P). Or if your car stereo is not bluetooth/AD2P capable there are special AD2P modules for this purpose.

My car stero has an aux. input on it that uses 2 RCA style inputs. I have a cord that I plug into the headphone jack on my N800 and the other end is under the dash connected to the aux. input on the car stero.

I was under the impression that 810s had a built-in FM transmitter, I gather from this thread that I've clearly hallucinated that from whole cloth...

Re: n810 through car speakers?

I saw some rumors about that... I was hoping they'd have an FM receiver so I wouldn't have any use for my car stereo at all, but I rarely listen to the radio anyway so no big deal to me.

I'm just disappointed at the audio out interference while charging in my car (opened a thread about that earlier today but only one person has said they have the same problem).

Looking forward to getting this device to do as much as possible, and all at once ;-)

How about the N800, do they have the same power connector ???

Re: n810 through car speakers?

None of the N8x0s have an FM transmitter; the N800 has an FM receiver, and the N810 doesn't have that.

(The power connector is the same.)

Re: n810 through car speakers?

This idea is one of my main objectives with my n810. I just sent a reply to a thread 'media center complete' with my current setup(which WILL be expanding). Currently, My mini-sd(4gb) is loaded with mp3's, And it plays Great! The output of the ear jack is much higher than my Alpine! i just wish that an app could be written to do eq. settings. I first used the cassette adapter from my xm 'till I hard wired the 810 with cords and a switch to change from one unit to the other.

As far as the FM radio goes, i have the applet installed and it starts, just that in the radio help it says to use a compatable set of ear-sets for the antenna(do they mean the ones that come with the unit-cause they aren't workin'). Would be nice to see it work, but no bother.

So, Go extreme with your idea! MP3's over skippin' CD's Anyday!!!

Re: n810 through car speakers?

Anything, including the cable to connect it to your sound system, should work as an antenna when plugged into the phone jack... But you said "810", and the N810 doesn't have an FM receiver. See post immediately above yours.

I reaiized that when I looked at the app man and it said plaiin as day 'N800'. My bad, still a noob trying to overload with all the apps-LOL

personally, im getting the parrot RK8200 the second canola spports a2dp without a hack

i find my audio quality is better streaming a2dp than throug the jack, but its a hack at this point, and drains the batter alot quicker

@kenski - alsamixer is available through debian boot...but thats a bit of a trek for just an EQ

My first guess would be a ground loop. If it goes away when you unplug power from your N800, a ground loop isolator would likely fix it.

I was under the impression that the N800 had an FM transmitter (not reciever) so that it could transmit music to the car stereo. I have the N810 so I could be completely wrong.

Anyway, I changed my 6 CD head unit in my Suzuki for a single disc player. BUT I realised that I was not losing anything as it also had the following:
SD card reader
USB port to read MP3's from a jump drive
AUX line level input
Bluetooth communication (phone and A2DP)
CD player
FM radio
AM radio

A 4gb SD card holds about 50 CD's

This cost was $150 and a few $$ for a cable adapter and I fitted it myself.

This is it on Buy.com
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...61&dcaid=17902

I use the direct headphone out to AUX in for best audio quality.

IMHO FM transmitters are poor quality at best and always produce modulation noise in the background.

Note that A2DP is NOT oficially implimented on the N810 (yet). There is some code present that some have got working but I understand that it is a poor implimentation right now and draws a lot of power. See:

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...highlight=a2dp

BTW, I like this VR3 car stereo because it works with my Bluetooth phone (I hate the distraction of holding a phone while driving).

I have an 8Gb miniSD (Newegg $40is) filled with 100+ CD's and two 16Gb SD's also filled with CD's but of course I have to use an external reader with these. I listen to a lot of music!!!

One thing no-one has said is to use the internal speakers in the car. We took the N810 to the UK recently and used it in the rental (hire) car quite sucessfully. Not much bass but if the car is quiet inside there is enough volume for background music.

One final point, someone talked about degredation of audio when plugged into a car charger. I have also noticed this and try to alternate between playing and charging on long trips.

Cheers

CJ, can you elaborate please? Do you mean C2 (which I have loaded but see no A2DP settings). Thanks.

Re: n810 through car speakers?

No, the N800 has no FM transmitter. It does have an FM receiver. I have no noise problems with my N800 connected to power. I seldom use it for audio, though, because I already have an overload of ways to play music through my speakers. I have a Sony MEX-2500, and almost never use the A2DP, preferring the wired aux input, because most of my devices don't have bluetooth, and I prefer to connect my phone via bluetooth. The Sony provides lots of ways to get sound, and it was a bargain at ~$150 installed. My only regret about it is that it has no USB or SD input. Oh well...

Re: n810 through car speakers?

@AsmoB:
You are correct. I bought a ground loop isolator a while ago and it fixed the problem. I update the original thread since a few people had a similar problem. I was amazed that it fixed both of the types of interference, and I bought the first cheap one I could find that was 3.5mm.

thats my point exactly, currently in Canola2 you can reroute the playing through mplayer, and use the a2dp hack that has been found

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=13468

but there is no offical support
this is hell on battery life
and its really not that great of a playback
bit choppy
but it DOES work
