Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
Just flash to Diablo, installed my usual apps (took an hour :( ), then installed Rotate, and now checked with app manager, after running for some 5 min, "operation failed", nothing in Show installed app, browse installable apps, or check update. Nothing. Upon reboot, and app manager, it goes on a forever Updating and wont stop.
Tried 1) dpkg --configure -a, problem persisted 2) cp /var/lib/dpkg/status-old to /avr/lib/dpkg/status problem persisted 3) app manager>app catalogs blank, nothing 4) Log: hildon-application-manager 2.1.16 apt-worker:too weak to get lock from 1488 apt-worker closed connection. apt-worker exited. apt-worker is not running Time to reflash, again? :( :( :::::( Edit: I think that was what happened. I rotated to the right (or Left?) while reading app manager. Real cool, you can see many more apps in a portrait mode. and I saw some progs I did not want and I uninstalled and updated, and rotated back to normal and now have the problem. I think that was what happened. Edit: interesting, now log has changed to the following after another reboot, apt-worker: Ignoring version from wrong domain: matchbox-window-manager 2:1.2-osso18 apt-worker: Ignorin keeps on going for many many ignoring.... no idea what is that. bun N810/Diablo/screw up app manager by bun |
Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
Did you try apt-get clean?
|
Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
No. I did not.
I reflashed it, and so far so good. Still puzzling what happened. bun |
Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
I think you can change the Topic to "[SOLVED]" ?
(not sure how to do it) |
Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
This has happened to my unit too. As a complete non-programmer, could someone tell me how to try the "Did you try apt-get clean?" that Gemniii42 mentioned? I guess it's using Terminal but attempts to type in "apt-get clean" don't get me anywhere and "apt-get" seems to present data but I don't know where to go from there. Maybe a programming course?!!

Maybe it is good for both of us to calm down a bit........ bun |
Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
Sorry to hear that bun! Good luck getting things back in order.
I guess this is why we need someone to draw up a guide showing us how to clone from sd to flash... |

I still get a boatload of "apt-worker: Ignoring version from wrong domain" log entries. It hasn't seemed to affect the IT's performance as far as I can tell, except when looking for updates ... which seems to go on forever, especially this morning. Other info: Upgraded to diablo and then cloned to new 16GB SD and installed bootmenu (both for the first time ever) last week. Maybe there's something in there that does this. I'm going to boot from flash and see if it's the same there. (As soon as App Mgr finishes and lets me ...) |

Anyways, you have to have root access. Look at the wiki for gainroot. So then I do: sudo gainroot apt-get clean exit exit gets me out of root. |

Just for you, buddy: clone from sd to flash, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=17562, thread #3, it is less than 8 lines, must be "EASY", yah, right. bun |

So, decided to do what others are doing and reflash with Diablo again. This I just did and guess what? Application Manager does exactly the same thing! Endless loop of 'no updates' available. What next? I guess to go backwards and take Diablo off. Or flash it again? Tim |

It was, in fact, that the connection at work was not letting my N810 connect. It was reporting being connected but would not let any data through. I've subsequently found another thread on that problem so I'm not alone - there's absolutely no security on the wifi at work, but even though it reports being connected, there's no action on Web or App Man or anything else. Took it home - with my super-secured network at home and it works perfectly and App Man gets populated. I do now remember another incident when this happened - with an S60 (non-FP1) Nokia - I think it was an N93 - with no apparent solution. Odd. Tim |
Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
So, you are saying that the 'continuous update' is because the wifi is off, although the icon said it is connected? OMG, I think you hit the nail in the head. I should have checked that out, as the error mess kind of point to that direction, "app manager signal ....weak". That is quite possible. I wish some people experiencing the same situation should delete the wifi connection and re-do a new wifi connection to see whether that is the situation. Thanks for the post,

Hurrah! At last I've been able to actually contribute something to the community instead of just taking! Let's hope it's the key for others too.

Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
The problem with Acronis is whether it can clone back to the tablet when the need arise, i.e., when the tablet is in trouble. to make other clones on sd, you can just stick the new sd into the tablet, they will keep making clones like having babies. I have cloned the same clone to all my 'daughter' tablets, i.e., tablet to my colleagues and friends, so that I know what my 'daughter' tablets has, very handy if you have to 'manage' a lot of 'daughter' tablets.

Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
In principle, a backup, like a restoring disk, is supposed to flash back to the tablet under ANY conditions. It would be good to see whether Acronis is able to put the 'backup' back to the flash. This is a question, not a statement. I am not suggesting you to try it, as my technical knowledge is NOT good enough to predict if something goes really wrong. I have no doubt the Acronis is able to provide a ghost image to other SD. I am only curious and wonder whether they can function as a restore disk.

Re: Application manager keeps on Updating and wont stop
Yes, you are right. But of course Acronis was not made for tablet, and I don't know enough to get it to recognize the tablet. I agree, it would be great to have a utility to do what you want---one that wasn't as scary as the method fanoush describes.
But, like I said, Acronis does enough for my purposes. As long as I never have to face reinstalling everything after a fresh flash, I'm very very happy. |

I'm not interested in dual booting or repartitioning, only a good backup that will save all configs and all installed apps. I read the links posted in this thread, but all those things are very complicated, and need to install a lot of 3rd party apps, and are full of warnings. I was one of those that got the broken update, I don't want to do anything until I have a proper backup. Thanks |
