Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Hi all,
My first post here. I have purchased an N800 and a SE 800i phone with the idea of using the 800i to access the Internet on behalf of the tablet. I have paired them up via Bluetooth but cannot, despite hours of frustration, get the tablet to connect. It tries but all I get is a message on the phone saying "connection failed, please contact your operator" sort of thing. The phone is PAYG - is this a problem? I have not yet upgraded to OS 2008. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? My phone happily surfs the web on 3G... Thanks in advance as I really want this to work and bought this new phone especially. Jules |

Why haven't you upgraded to OS 2008?

Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Okay - OS 2008 installed and still I cannot connect to my phone. I have downloaded settings for phone from Voda and SE and tried both and all to no avail...
Help! |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Has nobody out there got an 800i working with the tablet - who can help?
Thank you |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
I have the same issue with my SE W890i . Some SE phones do not work with BT DUN.
There is a different way to connect to the internet using the phone as a modem and that is via PAN, If you have upgraded to OS2008 then which " version" have you upgraded too ??because PAN support seems to have vanished inthe latest 'diablo' release. I have remained with the older 'chinook' release to maintain PAN support ( until an update is released). there seems to be a big demand for it so i'm sure it won't be long coming Go to --> https://garage.maemo.org/projects/maemo-pan If your phone pairs ok with your tablet then this should work ( once installed , just select PAN as a method of connection). IMHO it's works but still has some crashing and reboot issues ( for me at least i have to have a fresh reboot for it to work properly) |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Thanks for that - at least it's not me then.
Not sure which version I have but only downloaded it last night so probably the latest! I downloaded the file you mentioned but am not sure what to do with it. I open it and Windows says it does not know what created the file so cannot open it. What do I do with it? Then where might the pan option be found within the tablet? Sorry to be a pest... |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
the file should be downloaded to the N800 and run from there. Transfer the file via USB to N800 or take one of the memory cards out of the N800 and put that in your PC and copy it across.
When done and N800 is back up and running. Use the file explorer to view the file you transferred. just double tapping it will install it. Give it a go . but by the sounds of it you have the latest release which will mean you probably wont get any joy. going back to a an older version that works isn't too hard ... http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=21331 |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Thanks for this.
However... this page says that Sony Ericsson 800i (and other models) DO have Dun: http://maemo.org/community/wiki/bluetoothdun/ So now confused... |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Just found a SE tech doc and it says PAN...
Thks Jules |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
Think I'll have to waste more money and buy a different phone...

Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
As far as I can tell, all the SE phones have DUN and some ALSO have PAN.
But I have never heard of a phone that has only PAN. Try to change the CID number in your connection string from 1 to, say, 3. The connection string is: *99***<CID#># where the CID number identifies the CID-th configuration entry in your phone. Just have a look at yours (view) and it should say the CID number. Some operators do lock they own CID configurations. (Note: I don't remember, but the default connection number should be *99***1#, change it to: *99***3#). |
Re: Cannot connect N800 to my SE 800i phone
No need... I finally made it!
After all that it was something simple. When I used the phone Wizard it set up my connection with "Internet" as the APN. I just changed that to pp.vodafone.co.uk (after a chance remark by a Vodafone customer service chap) and it now works! Oh the joy... How the bloomin eck would the average person know such things... Thanks all for trying to help |
